Bug#588238: installing upstart does not create directory event.d

2010-07-06 Thread Dirk Werner
Package: upstart
Version: 0.6.6-1
Severity: important

After having done - apt-get install upstart, the package is installed but I end
up with no directory '/etc/event.d' being created - thus I have no boot up
scripts I can see and modify.

Bug#543375: [util-linux] workaround

2009-11-08 Thread Dirk Werner

Package: util-linux
Version: 2.16.1-4

for those who don't want to erase there Windows installation to
heal this

phenomenon - you can teach Windows to keep it's fingers from the CMOS
clock by setting the following DWORD key to 1

HKLM\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Control\TimeZoneInformation\RealTimeIsUniversal

If it doesn't exist, create it. I could only state that this works for
Vista, but it is also said to
function with WIN XP and 7. This key, obviously also disables time sync
functionalities
if there were some enabled. A little nasty side effect of that might be
a wrong time setting
in Windows for many people - for me, it doesn't matter since I don't
work there with
time-critical applications. For those who do, this means that you have
to set the correct

local time directly after every boot - less pain in my eyes.

Bug#374775: kdeinit symbol lookup error for libSM6 - no current solution

2006-07-02 Thread Dirk Werner

There seems to be no solution at the moment for this. I suspect that this
phenomenon might be based on my systems settings and thus not
reproducable on other systems, there was only one more user facing
the same weird behaviour. Menawhile I have totally erased any kde
specific package and installed gnome. This runs fine and it could be
said that it's still a kde related bug. I think it should be closed by now.

Many thanks for the provided help

Bug#374775: kdeinit symbol lookup error for libSM6

2006-06-21 Thread Dirk Werner

Package:libsm6
Version:1:1.0.0-4

I am using Debian GNU/Linux 3.1, kernel 2.6.15, libc6 2.3.6-13.

After an update yesterday, Kde does not start up anymore, this is the content
of /home/user/.xsession-errors:

Xsession: X session started for dirk at Mi Jun 21 09:41:33 CEST 2006
startkde: Starting up...
kdeinit: symbol lookup error: /usr/lib/libSM.so.6: undefined symbol:

startkde: Could not start kdeinit. Check your installation.

cut: error while loading shared libraries: libc.so.6: cannot open shared object

sed: error while loading shared libraries: libc.so.6: cannot open shared object

I tried to downgrade libxft2 from 2.1.8.2-8 to 2.1.7 cause someone obviously had
success doing this but that caused no change for my system.

Hi Dirk,

Could you tell us which version of libice6 is installed on your system?

libice6: Installed: 1:1.0.0-3

(by the way, you should consider using the reportbug tool, which adds
useful information to bug reports, like versions of depended-on
packages)

I have tried using the reportbug tool but since the affected machine is
so
fragile at the moment it's a bit hard for me to embed the requested
information via copy and paste. I have luckily access to my mail program
now, but no shell at all! As soon as this problem is solved I will go
ahead
using reportbug.

Also please report the output of 'ldd /usr/lib/libSM.so.6' to the bug
address.

ldd /usr/lib/libSM.so.6 gives the following output:

linux-gate.so.1 = (0xe000)
libICE.so.6 = /usr/lib/libICE.so.6 (0xb7f98000)
libc.so.6 = /lib/tls/libc.so.6 (0xb7e43000)
/lib/ld-linux.so.2 (0x8000)

Cheers,
Julien Cristau
