Bug#1001791: fonts-cantarell: Renders system hardly usable

2021-12-16 Thread G. Heine
Package: fonts-cantarell
Version: 0.303-2
Severity: grave
Justification: renders package unusable
X-Debbugs-Cc: g...@safe-mail.net

Dear Maintainer,

this version displays only letters a-z correctly thus making the system hardly
usable, unless you change to a different font. The problem is best shown with
the attached screen-shot.

An earlier bug report seems not to have reached Debian's bug tracking system.
If it has, please delete one or merge.

Yours
G. Heine

Bug#896917: caja: Two-column-view (F3) not working correctly

2018-04-25 Thread G. Heine
Package: caja
Version: 1.20.2-3
Severity: normal

Dear Maintainer,

currently using two columns (F3) the address bar does not work as it should be
and did before.

Until and including 1.20.1-1 (I think that was the version) the address bars at
the top of each column were working correctly. When clicking a folder, this
folder (its contents) was shown in the column below. You could use it to go up
and down in hierarchy, so to say.

Starting with 1.20.2 clicking a folder on the address bar changes the folder
shown in the active column, even if this is not the column below the address
bar clicked. So if you mean to go up one folder in the left column and click
the corresponding folder in the left address bar, caja instead will go up one
folder in the right column if the right column is the active one.

I noted one exception: When clicking /media this still works on the column
below, even if inactive.

Best regards
G. Heine

Bug#890518: libreoffice-base: Glitch when displaying total count of dataset

2018-02-15 Thread G. Heine
Package: libreoffice-base
Version: 1:6.0.1-1
Severity: minor

Dear Maintainer,

for some versions now there has been a glitch when displaying the total count
of dataset (maybe "dataset" is not the correct English wording, the German
translation is "Datensatz"), see file attached. When minimizing the LO-window
and maximizing it again the number is legible.

Bug#883866: pluma: Pluma no longer shows correct list of recently used files

2017-12-08 Thread G. Heine
Package: pluma
Version: 1.18.3-2
Severity: normal

Dear Maintainer,

starting with version 1.18.3 Pluma no longer displays a correct list of
recently used files in the dropdown menu.
It always shows the same five files from the day 1.18.2 was updated to 1.18.3,
only changing the order amongst them. Files more recently created, opened or
changed with Pluma are not shown. This does not depend on whether the file
appears in the recently used category of the open-dialog or (for reasons
unbeknownst to me) is not shown there either.

Bug#864157: reportbug: reportbug not starting with GUI, only CLI working

2017-06-04 Thread G. Heine
Package: reportbug
Version: 7.1.7
Severity: important

Dear Maintainer,

on my system reportbug does not start from the menu. This problem already
existed in 7.1.6,
maybe even in earlier versions 7.1.X, I am not sure about that.
The same problem also arose some time last year with older versions but got
solved in the meantime.

The command in menu is reportbug --exit-prompt --ui gtk2
Using this command in terminal I get
Ignored bogus setting for --ui: gtk2
like in bug #653183 except that in my case python-gtk2 is installed.

Bug#836669: caja: Crashes due to theme errors

2016-09-07 Thread G. Heine
Package: caja
Version: 1.14.2-1
Followup-For: Bug #836669

Dear Maintainer,

I encounter the same problem. Caja doesn't start at all.
The problem arose after the first restart after having upgraded several
packages (see below).

Syslog tells:

caja[3214]: Theme parsing error: mate-applications.css:415:16: not a number
caja[3214]: Theme parsing error: mate-applications.css:415:16: Expected a
string.
caja[3214]: Theme parsing error: other-applications.css:146:13: not a number
caja[3214]: Theme parsing error: other-applications.css:146:13: Expected a
string.
kernel: [ 62.004994] caja[2880]: segfault at 7ffdaec61ea8 ip 7f2cf7bec7b6
sp 7ffdaec61ea0 error 6 in libc-2.23.so[7f2cf7bb2000+197000]

The first four lines also appear with mate-menu, mate-system-log or soffice.bin
instead of caja.

Other parts of MATE also segfault:
mate-power-mana[2918]: segfault at 7ffd39a51ff8 ip 7f8b81dfe7b6 sp
7ffd39a51ff0 error 6 in libc-2.23.so[7f8b81dc4000+197000]

Syslog also contains loads of error messages containing
"gtk_widget_size_allocate(): attempt to underallocate..." from wnck-applet and
synaptic which did not appear before yesterday's upgrade.
So it might be that the problem with caja is just a symptom of a defect in some
other package (but I am a layman with respect to programming).

Yesterday's changes on my system:

Bug#834943: caja: Caja segfaults when leaving trash

2016-08-20 Thread G. Heine
Package: caja
Version: 1.14.1-1
Severity: normal

Dear Maintainer,

after having opened trash in caja it is not possible to use this window for
further actions.
When clicking some place or device in Places or trying to go backwards (to a
folder already used before trash) the window is closed.

The typical entry in syslog is:

Bug#827766: atril: faulty window to select files

2016-06-20 Thread G. Heine
Package: atril
Version: 1.14.1-2
Severity: normal

Dear Maintainer,

with the upgrading from 1.12 to 1.14 the dialog to open or save documents has
been changed and no longer resembles caja, neither in looks nor in
functionality. This seems illogical to me, as atril is part of MATE.

The new dialog for saving files is missing "recent folders" ("zuletzt
verwendet") which only appears in the dialog to open files.

Furthermore settings which should be systemwide are not applied anymore:
- hidden folders are shown
- single-click is not working (only double click)
- folders and files are mixed
- icons differ from the installed theme.

The same applies to other MATE programs like pluma and engrampa.
This is a nuisance.

Yours
G. Heine

Bug#827762: synaptic: Use of Ctrl to mark additonal package not working on 32-bit-system

2016-06-20 Thread G. Heine
Package: synaptic

Dear Maintainer,

on my 32-bit-system it it not possible to mark several packages using the ctrl-
key. It is no hardware problem as the functionality works in other programs
(e.g. caja). My 64-bit-system, which also uses synaptic 0.83+b1 (but
amd64-package) does not have this issue.

Bug#813218: freeciv-client-qt: saving games only possible when there is an active unit

2016-01-30 Thread G. Heine
Package: freeciv-client-qt
Version: 2.5.2-1
Severity: normal

Dear Maintainer,

it is not possible to save a game at the end of the turn, when there is no
currently active unit. "Save" and "Save as" are greyed out and Ctrl+S has no
effect (no warning either, you'll learn the hard way when you want to continue
your game).

Workaround: Use freeciv-client-gtk which behaves correctly or when using
freeciv-client-qt wake up a unit doing sentry, press ctrl+s (or use menu, for
saving the game) and s (new sentry order for the unit).

Bug#813107: freeciv-client-qt: Qt-GUI adds folder ~/$HOME

2016-01-29 Thread G. Heine
Package: freeciv-client-qt
Version: 2.5.2-1
Severity: minor

Dear Maintainer,

I am not 100 % sure whether freeciv-client-qt is responsible but it is the most
likely.
After installing and starting freeciv-client-qt I found a new folder ~/$HOME
with a subfolder named .config containing QtProject.conf .
I suppose this folder was created by mistake as QtProject.conf already existed
in ~/.config . Maybe a spelling mistake somewhere prevented $HOME from being
treated correctly as user's home directory.

Bug#800044: geeqie: actions in fullscreen mode not working because context window is hidden behind the picture

2015-09-25 Thread G. Heine
Package: geeqie
Version: 1:1.2.2-1
Severity: normal

Dear Maintainer,

as Bug #763288 is archived without being solved I'll file it again with
additional information.

When in fullscreen mode actions from the context menu (right click) like move
or rename are not possible because the follow-up window to the context window
doesn't show. It is actually hidden behind the picture. You can see the preview
of this window using Alt+Tab, but you can't get there.
The hidden window is nevertheless working in some way. You can move a picture
to another directory by hitting Enter, but you won't know where it has been
moved to because you didn't see the path.

When fullscreen mode is triggered pressing "F" the space bar does not work to
show the next picture. When fullscreen mode is triggered double-clicking a
picture space bar is working.

Günter

Bug#796727: maitreya: Wrong time zone for Paraguay

2015-08-23 Thread G. Heine
Package: maitreya
Version: 7.0.7-1
Severity: minor

Dear Maintainer,

Maitreya's geonames database gives UTC -3 hours for locations in Paraguay
whereas it should be UTC -4 h corresponding with correctly shown time zone
America/Asunción.

UTC -3 h is correct only during DST, but the offset for DST is meant to be
handled manually.

There is also strange behaviour regarding time zones when setting a standard
location that is not in the same time zone as the computer/system. In this case
the time zone of the newly set standard location is not taken into account and
the old offset stays put.

Maybe it would be possible to use the systems's already existing knowledge
about time zones and DST (tzdata) to avoid mistakes and simplify things for the
user.

Yours
Günter Heine

Bug#791705: system-config-printer: properties cannot be changed

2015-08-13 Thread G. Heine
Package: system-config-printer
Version: 1.4.6-1
Followup-For: Bug #791705

Dear Maintainer,

I encountered the same or a similar problem on my system.
Trying to change printer properties with system-config-printer the part of the
window showing the printers is greyed and nothing more happens. I can close the
window normally clicking the x.
Duplicating printers and choosing standard printer are possible, but not after
trying to change properties.
Properties can still be changed by using lpoptions-command.

Bug#792302: maitreya does not respond anymore after clicking transit view

2015-07-13 Thread G. Heine
Package: maitreya
Version: 7.0.7-1
Severity: important

Dear Maintainer,

after clicking new view transit view (my translation) the program does not
respond anymore and maitreya.bin uses 100 % of one CPU-core. Other options of
new view are not affected.

This behaviour is new on my system after a complete dist-upgrade. As maitreya
package remained unchanged in this process there seems to be some
incompatibility with system packages changed after Jessie's freeze (sorry for
not being more precise but that was my last complete dist-upgrade before now).

Best regards

Bug#775525: caja: Desktop icon size settings wrong

2015-01-16 Thread G. Heine
Package: caja
Version: 1.8.2-1
Severity: minor

Dear Maintainer,

setting the icon size for the desktop mostly doesn't work correctly.

Caja offers seven different settings. They are called 33 % - 400 % in Caja
(editpreferencesviewsicon view) and smallest, smaller, small, standard,
large, larger, largest in dconf-editor (orgmatecajaicon view).
This way it should be easy to change between icon sizes. But in reality (at
least in my case) changing those settings (no matter whether using Caja or
dconf-editor) the outcome is not predictable.
Changing to a bigger size might give you smaller icons. Setting the standard
size might show the biggest of all. You just have to try them to get the size
you want. Just don't expect that setting to 100 % now will give you the same
size as setting to 100 % in five minutes will.

Bug#773736: caja: Save as dialog shows icon preview even if switched off

2014-12-22 Thread G. Heine
Package: caja
Version: 1.8.2-1
Severity: minor

Dear Maintainer,

when saving a file (while using a browser, GIMP or any other program) the
dialog window shows inconsistent behaviour.

Let's suppose there is a folder ~/example which contains two files yes.jpg and
no.jpg.
At some time in the past I did open yes.jpg with eom (which created a preview-
png in ~/.cache/thumbnails/normal) but I have never done so with no.jpg.

When opening ~/example in caja (list view with file preview switched off) both
files yes.jpg and no.jpg are represented by identical symbolic icons from the
icon set/desktop theme.

However when I use the Save as-dialog only no.jpg has the correct symbolic
icon whereas yes.jpg will have a picture preview.

I would expect both files to be shown with symbolic icons like in caja itself.

Yours
Günter Heine

Bug#763288: geeqie: additional information to #763288

2014-10-26 Thread G. Heine
Package: geeqie
Version: 1:1.2-3+b1
Followup-For: Bug #763288

Dear Maintainer,

bug still exists in 1:1.2-3+b1 (with system fully dist-upgraded today).

One thing I noticed is that using space bar to show next picture in fullscreen
mode only works normally once after starting geeqie (in the first folder so to
say).
After having changed to another folder space bar has no function if fullscreen
mode has been triggered by typing 'f'.
If fullscreen mode has been started by double-clicking an image space bar
behaves normally and even does so when afterwards fullscreen mode is started
with 'f' in the same folder.
But changing folder means that you have to double-click again, even if this
folder has already been used before in the same session.

Another thing is that in fullscreen mode hitting 'DEL' deletes a picture
without asking for confirmation even if confirmation is required according to
settings. In normal view mode confirmation is correctly asked for.

Mouse wheel in my case (as opposed to Emil Novak) can be used to move forwards
and backwards between images in fullscreen mode.

Regards
Günter

Bug#763288: geeqie: Bug 736288 not completely fixed in geeqie 1.2-3

2014-10-13 Thread G. Heine
Package: geeqie
Version: 1:1.2-3
Followup-For: Bug #763288

Dear Maintainer,

I'm sorry to say that bug 763288 is not completely fixed in version 1:1.2-3.

Copy, Move and Rename still don't work in fullscreen mode (at least Move worked
in former versions, about Copy and Rename I am not sure whether I ever used
them).
When (in fullscreen mode) clicking Move in context menu this menu disappears
but nothing else happens. Typing Ctrl+M has no effect either.
Having clicked Move (or Copy or Rename) n times I then have to press Esc n+1
times to leave fullscreen mode.

Mouse wheel, left button and other commands of context menu are working in
fullscreen mode now.

Regards
Günter

Bug#764810: nm-applet: icon disappears when clicking on it (nm-applet segfaults)

2014-10-11 Thread G. Heine
Package: network-manager-gnome
Version: 0.9.10.0-2
Severity: normal

Dear Maintainer,

nm-applet's icon disappears half the time when clicking on it (no matter
whether right or left button). The corresponding lines in syslog are always
like:

kernel: [ 210.257870] nm-applet[1468]: segfault at 18 ip 0042ffd0 sp
7fff04c4cb10 error 4 in nm-applet[40+4e000]

Of 18 ip 0042ffd0 sp 7fff04c4cb10 only the last 8 digits vary.

nm-applet can afterwards still be started via terminal resulting in a message
like:

** (nm-applet:2065): WARNING **: Couldn't register with accessibility bus: Did
not receive a reply. Possible causes include: the remote application did not
send a reply, the message bus security policy blocked the reply, the reply
timeout expired, or the network connection was broken.

Sometimes a second warning appears in terminal, but not having written down
that message I can currently not quote that.

nm-applet started via terminal has so far never segfaulted the way mentioned
above and can be used normally (but terminal window has to remain open to use
the network).

Regards
Günter

volume level is shown and adjusted is hidden behind the movie or surrounding
background area.
You have to leave fullscreen mode to adjust volume.

Bug#763357: mate-desktop: Confusing translation (de) in Mate Desktop Environment

2014-09-29 Thread G. Heine
Package: mate-desktop
Version: 1.8.1+dfsg1-1
Severity: minor
Tags: l10n

Dear Maintainer,

first of all I don't know whether mate-desktop is the correct package for this
bug report because I don't know where MATE's localization is based. Sorry.

Now for the bug: starting with Mate 1.8 the German translation is confusing.
For years desktop has been translated with Arbeitsfläche in most systems,
not only Linux. Mate did the same until and including 1.6.
Starting with 1.8 the corresponding folder is no longer called ~/Arbeitsfläche
but ~/Schreibtisch. You can also find Aussehen des Schreibtischs anpassen
connected to Erscheinungsbild (appearance). In other places it is still
Arbeitsfläche: you use Arbeitsflächenumschalter in the panel to switch
between workplaces.
The worst is using Caja: you click Arbeitsfläche under Orte (places) and
it will open ~/Schreibtisch while the title above calls it Arbeitsfläche (in
icon mode) or Schreibtisch (in text mode).

I noticed this behaviour in Mate 17 in May and it is still there in Debian
Testing in September.
This is a somewhat confusing and unnecessary change for the worse. In my
opinion you should stick with Arbeitsfläche or (if the ä after decades of
computer technology still causes problems) change it to Schreibtisch
completely. But please stay with one wording all over.

Regards

Bug#763288: geeqie: almost no mouse or keyboard-response in fullscreen mode

2014-09-28 Thread G. Heine
Package: geeqie
Version: 1:1.2-1
Severity: important

Dear Maintainer,

when using geeqie in fullscreen mode there used to be various commands and
actions (like described in the integrated help, 8.2.4. Navigation).
Alas, this version does not respond to much in fullscreen mode. Mouse buttons
or wheel have no effect at all (no scrolling, no context menu). Keyboard
entries are restricted to F, V, Esc, PgUp, PgDwn, Home, End, Space, Backspace.
Other commands (like Ctrl+m or delete for example) do not work anymore.
Earlier versions (the latest I used being from ca. February 2014) worked fine
in this respect.
