Bug#1058701: pm-utils: unauthorised and uncommunicated removal

2023-12-23 Thread Joerg Jaspert

On 17085 March 1977, Ian Jackson wrote:

Yes, please do so.

Thanks. This has now been done.
I chose to *not* fix anything about the package now (not even the
wrong VCS fields, for example) in order to simplify review.

The diff against the version previously in sid, and currently in
testing, is attached.

It wouldn't have made the review any noticable amount harder.

I do suggest fixing those things, Ancient Standard version and debhelper
7 do make it *really* easy to accept "This is unmaintained".

Hello!

This is a visual problem with pinentry-qt in dark themes:
When I switch on a dark theme, the 'eye' which is clickable and shows then the
typed password readable, isn't really visible.

This behaviour should be altered.

Hello!

In a former version of SDDM the setting in '/etc/sddm.conf' determine on which
VT (virtuel terminal tty) an DM will start. In the latest version of sddm this
setting is ignored.
This should be fixed, so an existing configuration file will work like before.

Bug#1032973: "XyGrib Desktop" desktop file contains the deprecated category 'Application' and have some other mistakes.

2023-03-14 Thread Joerg Schiermeier, Bielefeld/Germany
Package: xygrib
Version: 1.2.6.1-2
Severity: normal

-BEGIN PGP SIGNED MESSAGE-
Hash: SHA256

Hello!

The desktop file for Linux (/usr/share/applications/xygrib.desktop) inside the
Debian package is missing the basic category 'Science' (or 'Education') and the
additional categories 'Application' is invalid/deprecated. This categories
should be changed in the next version.
Please see the documentation about desktop files here:
<https://standards.freedesktop.org/menu-spec/latest/apas02.html>

The tool 'desktop-file-validate' gave me this output:

$ desktop-file-validate /usr/share/applications/xygrib.desktop
/usr/share/applications/xygrib.desktop: warning: key "Encoding" in group
"Desktop Entry" is deprecated
/usr/share/applications/xygrib.desktop: error: (will be fatal in the future):
value "xygrib.png" for key "Icon" in group "Desktop Entry" is an icon name with
an extension, but there should be no extension as described in the Icon Theme
Specification if the value is not an absolute path
/usr/share/applications/xygrib.desktop: hint: value item "Geoscience" in key
"Categories" in group "Desktop Entry" can be extended with another category
among the following categories: Education, or Science
/usr/share/applications/xygrib.desktop: hint: value "Geoscience;" for key
"Categories" in group "Desktop Entry" does not contain a registered main
category; application might only show up in a "catch-all" section of the
application menu

You may what to check also if the desktop file is valid with the command
'desktop-file-validate' from the Debian package 'desktop-file-utils'.

Because this is a tool for weather it may be a good idea to use the main
category 'Science' before 'Education'.

Bug#1027727: Please recompile with _FFR_MTA_STS

2023-01-02 Thread Joerg Dorchain
Package: sendmail
Version: 8.17.1.9-1
Severity: Wishlist

Hello,

Can you please recompile the sendmail package with _FFR_MTA_STS
enabled, as described in the sendmail release notes for version
8.17.1/8.17.1 2021/08/17 line 25 Experimental support for SMTP
MTA Strict Transport Security

The sts.m4 file for FEATURE(sts) is already in the package.

Also, a
Recommends: postfix-mta-sts-resolver
would complete this change.

Thanks for considering.

Bye,

Joerg

Installing libtfm1 0.13.1-1 made it indeed work again.

So having a small dependency update in the libclamav9 package
would be fine for me as a solution.

If the change to libtfm1 is not backward compatible, a breaks:
line in that package might be an idea, too.

No:
dpkg-query -W|grep libtfm
libtfm1:amd64 0.13-4.1

I am following testing, https://tracker.debian.org/pkg/tomsfastmath says it
will enter testing in three
days earliest.

I will install it from unstable manually. Thanks for the hint!

Feedback will take a bit, as feshclam retried the "failed" download after 5
seconds, so within a minutes I was
banned from clamav updates for 2 days.

I would strongly recommend a libtfm1 >= 0.13.1 dependy in the new libclamav9
package to prevent other people
from this experience.

Hello,

the latest update to version 0.103.7+dfsg-1+b2 gives for me
ERROR: Can't verify database integrity
for clamav-daemon and clamav-freshclam

Downgrading to libclamav9 0.103.7+dfsg-1+b1 as a workaround
helps.

Testing is difficult, as downloading the clamav database is
strictly rate limited.

This makes this version unsuable for me.

I would suggest keeping version 0.18 in testing until this is fixed.

Hi there!

The application "desktop-file-validate" told me this about tea's desktop file:

There is a space character at the end of the "MimeType" line.
After I removed this space, desktop-file-validate didn't said anything again.

The rules from /usr/lib/udev/rules.d/80-modem-eg25.rules are not applied
due to a typo on line 3
Line 3 should start with 'DRIVERS' instead of 'DRIVER', the character
'S' is missing.

The freebsd folks have(had) a similiar bug
https://bugs.freebsd.org/bugzilla/show_bug.cgi?id=263287 and
a patch https://bugs.freebsd.org/bugzilla/attachment.cgi?id=233346=diff

They say the patch is from sendmail 8.17.1.9. A version of the patch for
inclusion in the patch subdir
is also attached.

If you could create a package with either the patch applied or from the
mentioned source version (or
newer) I'd be happy to test.

Bye,

Joerg

Hi,

I am sorry to say that the newly arrived version 8.17.1-2 in testing shows the
same behaviour as the
originally reported version 8.16.1-2, no auth mechanisms offered after starttls.

Downgrading to version 8.17.1-1 helps, though.

I installed 8.17.1-1 from http://snapshot.debian.org/

With this version and no configuration change, smtp auth works as
ever. Thanks!

What was the reason for uploading it to exprimental instead of
unstable?

Uh, and just for curiousity, I see nothing explicitly related to
auth or sasl in the changelogs. Do you have any idea?

Bug#1009078: sasl auth via saslauthd does not work anymore

2022-04-06 Thread Joerg Dorchain
Package: sendmail
Version: 8.16.1-2

With the current sendmail in testing, my incoming smtp auth configuration does
not
work anymore.

I get log lines AUTH warning: no mechanisms

Last known good version is 8.15.2-23

Relevant config snippets include
sendmail.mc:
TRUST_AUTH_MECH(`PLAIN LOGIN')dnl
define(`confAUTH_MECHANISMS', `PLAIN LOGIN')dnl
define(`confAUTH_OPTIONS', `A p y')dnl

/etc/sasl2/Sendmail.conf :
auto_transition: no
pwcheck_method: saslauthd
mech_list: PLAIN LOGIN

with 8.15.2-23, I got logs like
 STARTTLS=server, cert-subject=, cert-issuer=, verifymsg=ok
AUTH: available mech=PLAIN LOGIN, allowed mech=PLAIN LOGIN

I'd be happy for any hints on how to debug this further.

Bye,

Joerg

I cannot follow that thought, but well.

Unannounced risking data loss is a grave functionality drop.

Debian used to care even for corner cases, esp. when it virtually costs nothing.
I do not see "pestering" here, and I do not define goals of paket maintainance
as 50% is good enough,
neither.

Before the politicals discussion takes overhand, may I rephrase this request as

Please add a notice to the end of sysvinit support to the NEWS.Debian file,
maybe kindly mentioning
the orphan-sysvinit-scripts package.

Joerg

Bug#1000304: log rotation breaks silently on sysvinit based systems

2021-11-20 Thread Joerg Dorchain
Package: rsyslog
Version: 8.2110.0-3

Hello,

the file /usr/lib/rsyslog/rsyslog-rotate, referenced in the postrotate section
of
/etc/logrotate.d/rsyslog, silently does nothing anymore on sysvinit based
systems.

Non-rotated logs lead to disk full, data loss and unusable systems.

A grave functionality drop like this needs to be announced, e.g. in a
NEWS.Debian file.

A word of reasoning why sysvinit support cannot be supported anymore would also
help.

Best regards,

Joerg

Bug#973361: libassimp-dev: CMake target "assimp::assimp" is broken

2021-11-18 Thread Joerg Bornemann
Package: libassimp-dev
Version: 5.0.1~ds0-2
Followup-For: Bug #973361
X-Debbugs-Cc: joerg.bornem...@qt.io

Dear Maintainer,

I can reproduce this issue with the following CMake project:

---snip---
cmake_minimum_required(VERSION 3.16)
project(whatever)
find_package(assimp 5.0)
add_executable(myexe main.cpp)
target_link_libraries(myexe PRIVATE assimp::assimp)
---snap---

main.cpp can be any file, even an empty one.

One can work around locally by altering
/usr/lib/x86_64-linux-gnu/cmake/assimp-5.0/assimpTargets.cmake and add another
line
   get_filename_component(_IMPORT_PREFIX "${_IMPORT_PREFIX}" PATH)
in the block under the comment
   # Compute the installation prefix relative to this file.

Bug#999889: please keep /etc/init.d/rsyslog

2021-11-17 Thread Joerg Dorchain
Package: rsyslog
Version: 8.2110.0-3

Hello,

I noticed that with the current package upgrade the init script
/etc/init.d/rsyslog was automatically
removed without keeping a backup.

Is there a specific reason for dropping sysvinit support?
Even then, config files under /etc are supposed to be only removed on a purge,
and modified only while
actively informing the user.

Can you please bring the /etc/init.d/rsyslog back?

Thanks,

Joerg

Dear Maintainer,

   * What led up to the situation?
I have bought a Lenovo ThinkPad T14s with TrackPoint and Touchpad from
Elantech and I use the TrackPoint for daily business.

   * What exactly did you do (or not do) that was effective (or
 ineffective)?
Boot Debian testing hybrid image (live iso) from 2021-05-24 and started
using the TrackPoint.

   * What was the outcome of this action?
TrackPoint jumps to the edge/corner of the screen after some minutes.

   * What outcome did you expect instead?
Using the TrackPoint without this jumpy experience.

Bug#989224: puppet: Cron Provider breaks on crontab with certain environment variables (easy DOS for a user)

2021-05-29 Thread Joerg Jaspert

Source: puppet
Severity: important

Dear Maintainer,

puppets cron provider contains a bug that allows any local user to
easily turn off the puppet service.

A crontab that contains an environment variable with a - breaks puppet.
Change - to _ and it works.
Yes, POSIX does not allow that, sure, but users can be stupid, software
should deal with it.

Test:
Create a crontab like

MAILTO=t...@example.com
CONSOLE-LOG=/var/log/file

*/15 * * * * /bin/bash -c "echo test"

And puppet goes boom, it couldn't parse the line, followed by a stack
trace and out it is.

Now change the - to _ and voila, puppet does not go boom.

I personally had this on puppet6, but had a DSA member try on their
machines, the bug exists on puppet5 buster and bullseye too.

Upstream does not care, see
https://tickets.puppetlabs.com/browse/PUP-10998 if you want, but I think
it would be nice if we do not ship such a bug in Debian.

2021-05-18 Thread Joerg Jaspert

Hi

oh, and no, the fix for #881725 does not actually help, thanks to this
bug.
It keeps the systemd-private-* dir around, but everything inside is
gone.

Bug#636459: Breaks unrelated software

2021-05-18 Thread Joerg Jaspert

severity 636459 grave
thanks

Hi

this bug breaks unrelated software in hard to determine ways: Using
systemd and "PrivateTmp" with a long running process, have an app use
its /tmp (which privatetmp maps to /tmp/systemd-private-$SOMETHING - and
suddenly the files disappear. Thanks to this bug, that is, just
reproduced here, unfortunately.

While there can be an argument about files in /tmp being important, when
something is set to protected (and systemd dirs are!), they should be
protected (and the contents of the dirs arent, due to this)

Bug#982685: sl-modem: Depends on removed package

2021-02-13 Thread Joerg Jaspert

Package: sl-modem
Severity: serious

Dear Maintainer,

the prelink, and with it the execstack, package got removed. You do have
a build-dependency on exec-stack.

Your package is in non-free, so its not as serious as in main, but still
nice to fix.
Please either drop the b-d or, if you really need it, reintroduce
execstack (as an own package without the broken prelink part) to use it.

Bug#885195: guile-2.0 removed

2021-02-13 Thread Joerg Jaspert

Hi,

i just removed guile-2.0 from unstable.
While your package already won't be part of the next release, it will
now also be unusable in unstable.

Please either upload a fixed version or request removal of the package
by reassigning this bug to ftp.debian.org, retitling it appropriatly.

I can do this for you, if I don't hear back/see no action within 3
weeks, I will reassign it, so please either finally update or beat me to
the reassign. Thanks.

Bug#982683: mysql-workbench: Uses no-longer existing package for build, remove?

2021-02-13 Thread Joerg Jaspert

Package: mysql-workbench
Severity: serious

Dear Maintainer,

mysql-workbench uses gcc-8 for building, known through bug #944177 for
more than a year.

Nothing seems to happen, package looks unmaintained. gcc-8 is now
removed from Debian, so this package either must have an update, or
should be removed too.

Please either fix this with an upload removing the usage of gcc-8, or
reassign this bug to ftp.debian.org asking for removal, and retitle it
something like

RM: mysql-workbench -- ROM; outdated, unmaintained

Thank you!

I intend to do this myself in 3 weeks, if there is no reply. So if you
are on it and need a little more time, please tell.

I get daily mail with the following content:

/etc/cron.daily/logrotate:

grep: /etc/cron.daily/acct: No such file or directory

They are triggered by a script /etc/logrotate.d/psaccs_atop, which grep files
without checking for their existance and does not suppres output.

Thank you for fixing.

Hi Maintainer,

sorry, rejected. You got src/fwleaps.f in your tarball and that file

Bug#978731: kate: The syntax highlighting for BASH files didn't handle backticks properly

2020-12-30 Thread Joerg Schiermeier, Bielefeld/Germany
Package: kate
Version: 4:20.12.0-1
Severity: normal

-BEGIN PGP SIGNED MESSAGE-
Hash: SHA256

Hello!

In a BASH script which I wrote long time ago I have this line:

if  [ 0 -eq `id -u` ];
then

Backticks are old and busted in the BASH language but they are still working.

When I open this script with Kate the syntax highlighting for the rest of the
BASH file isn't realy conclusive. In other words: it is totally broken.
This was working properly before Kate twenty something appears. Now is not so
nice - or let me say: rubbish.

This should be corrected in future packages for debian.

At the request of the release-team, we re-injected the packages which
were still in testing back into unstable. Should be back at the next
dinstall.

Thanks Mark, and for the rest: If you don't want us to act on a rm bug,
tag it moreinfo (if its likely to need action later) *or* close it.
That ensures that it won't be acted on, as the interface we mostly use

Bug#975049: sogo: webmail not working after update of libxmlsec1-openssl

2020-12-02 Thread Joerg Schmauder
please consider giving the bug important severity as the webinterface is
not accessable at all (unless modifying the URL manually after logging
in). on the sogo mailinglist another user confirmed the bug:

https://www.mail-archive.com/users%40sogo.nu/msg30232.html

i found a workaround for the issue on a bug report of the sogo ubuntu
package (4.1.1) on arm:

https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/sogo/+bug/1860906

putting "LD_PRELOAD=/usr/lib/x86_64-linux-gnu/libssl.so.1.1" into
/etc/default/sogo helps.

2020-10-30 Thread Joerg Staedele
Package: linux-image-4.9.0-14-amd64
Version: 4.9.240-1

After unattended-upgrade on Debian Stretch we noticed that all machines are not
booting with the new kernel. Sometimes after GRUB they just shut down sometimes
we get a kernel panic (it seems to be similar to
https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/linux/+bug/1896725) as the message is
also related to "mp_irqdomain_activate"

Booting linux-image-4.9.0-13 works w/o problems. We tried several Xen hosts
(6.0/6.5/7.0/7.2) all with the same result

Kind regards

Thanks for considering a new release with the patch (experimental would
be fine.)

For a package named easyssh, thats not what users will expect. Please

Hello!

1.)
The desktop file for Linux (/usr/share/applications/Zoom.desktop) is missing
the additional category 'Chat' which is a sub-category of 'Network'. Please see
the documentation about desktop files here:
<https://standards.freedesktop.org/menu-spec/latest/apas02.html>

This category should be added.

2.)
The desktop file for Linux (/usr/share/applications/Zoom.desktop) has an error:
error: (will be fatal in the future): value "Zoom.png" for key "Icon" in group
"Desktop Entry" is an icon name with an extension, but there should be no
extension as described in the Icon Theme Specification if the value is not an
absolute path

This should be corrected in future packages for debian.

Bug#969028: ganeti: migration_caps break migration

2020-08-26 Thread Joerg Jaspert

Source: ganeti
Version: 2.16.0-5
Severity: important

Dear Maintainer,

using Ganeti 2.16 and qemu 1:5.0-14~bpo10+1 I tried setting
migration_caps for the cluster. But no matter which value i use it
breaks migration.

Migration then "goes"
- Setup disks and prepare target node
- starting memore transfer
- "Migration failed, aborting"
- Closing disks

That is entirely independent on which value I put into the caps.

Unsetting migration_caps and retrying the migration - it fails again.

Looking more in detail it appears that its setting the caps on the
source side. But possibly forgets to set them on the target side so qemu
hates doing migration?!

And when it breaks, it forgets to unset the capabilities, so next
migrations break too. One has to manually connect to the monitor and
unset them, before migration works again.

Yep, that works almost painless.

- Install the geoipupdate package
- Sign up with a maxming.com free account
- enter the the credentials you get in /etc/Geoip.conf
- run geoipupdate
- point libpam-geoip to /var/lib/GeoIP/GeoLite2-City.mmdb

I am now fine again with my manually patched version of

I am still on the learning curve for the new version, so please
bear with me.

Maybe adding a conflicts: or breaks: -line for the package for the
old geoip-database* packages would be a decent hint that things are
quite different now on the technical level.

Bug#964312: libswscale5: general protection fault in libswscale.so.5.7.100 / Segmentation fault

2020-07-05 Thread Joerg
Package: libswscale5
Version: 7:4.3-3
Severity: normal

Dear Maintainer,

dvbcut closes with a segmentation fault after the index file was
created.

6453 Segmentation fault nice -n 19 dvbcut -idx
"${pathname}/${filename}.idx" "${pathname}/${filename}"

dmesg provides:
traps: dvbcut[4884] general protection fault ip:7f285ffa4ba2
sp:7ffdde55e5a8 error:0 in libswscale.so.5.7.100[7f285ff32000+7a000]

I was able to reproduce it in testing (without nvidia tainting the
kernel). The issue happens on my "real" system with sid as well.

downgrading dvbcut, libswscale5, libavutil56 to "stable" resolves the
issue.

While searching for a potential clue, I stumbled over
https://trac.ffmpeg.org/ticket/8747
not sure if this is related to this issue.

I'm sorry Bertrand!

This was my fault. I mixed some package names by accident...

Bug#951456: Acknowledgement (glabels merge does not recognize Umlaut or accents)

2020-04-01 Thread hau . joerg
Hi,

The problem was due to some faulty KDE Plasma settings.

While probing around, I noticed that even a simple "LANG=C glabels-3" generated
error messages about missing libraries.

In addition, it turned out that glabels runs fine under a new (= freshly
created) user account.

Practical solution: quit KDE, rm ./config/plasma* and log in again. You have to
re-configure a few KDE settings, but at least the locales are working now.

Cause: unknown, most probably some weird KDE setting that was carried over
throughout the years and messed up with the recent migration to Plasma5.

Solved, case closed.

Thank you. And ... stay safe.
