Bug#1070313: firmware-amd-graphics: current versions in stable, testing, and sid do not allow RX7800XT usage
Package: firmware-amd-graphics Version: 20230210-5 Severity: important Dear Maintainer, The current versions of this packages, be it in stable (20230210-5), testing (20230625-2) or sid (20230625-2) prevent RX7800XT GPUs to be used with Debian. Bug#1040199: linux-image-6.3.0-1-amd64: kernel panic during boot
Package: src:linux Version: 6.3.7-1 Severity: grave Justification: renders package unusable Dear Maintainer, Tracking sid, after upgrading from 6.1.0-9-amd64 to 6.3.0-1-amd64 (6.3.7-1), I experienced a kernel panic during boot. Here is its trace: ``` [2.961158] Kernel panic - not syncing: VFS: Unable to mount root fs on unknown-block(0,0) [2.961243] CPU: 14 PID: 1 Comm: swapper/0 Not tainted 6.3.0-1-amd64 #1 Debian 6.3.7-1 [2.961323] Hardware name: Gigabyte Technology Co., Ltd. FWIW, since this is something that I saw when people were trying/using UEFI, I thought I should mention that my drives are still using MBR partitions, and so, boot in BIOS is configured as CSM. Bug#1036964: igc: speed auto-negociation fails to set it to max with NIC I225-V on gigabit network
Package: linux-image-amd64-6.3.4 Severity: important X-Debbugs-Cc: julienbenja...@free.fr Dear Maintainer, * What led up to the situation? I installed Debian on a Minisforum UM450 using a 2.5G NIC (Intel I225-V). Speed autonegociation sometimes set the speed to 1Gbps (on a gigabit network), but more often than not it is set to 100Mbps. It sometimes oscillates between 100 and 1000, but, most of the time, the speed is 100Mbps. * What exactly did you do (or not do) that was effective (or ineffective)? I tried the kernel version in experimental (6.3.4). It was the same as the one for current bookworm/sid (6.1.27). I tried to change the cable and switch. * What was the outcome of this action? The same behavior. * What outcome did you expect instead? Since the I225-V is supposed to work on gigabit networks, whatever the kernel version, I expected it to work OOTB. -- System Information: Debian Release: 12.0 APT prefers testing-security APT policy: (500, 'testing-security'), (500, 'testing'), (1, 'experimental') Architecture: amd64 (x86_64) Foreign Architectures: i386 Kernel: Linux 6.3.0-0-amd64 (SMP w/6 CPU threads; PREEMPT) Locale: LANG=en_US.UTF-8, LC_CTYPE=en_US.UTF-8 (charmap=UTF-8), LANGUAGE not set Shell: /bin/sh linked to /usr/bin/dash Init: systemd (via /run/systemd/system) LSM: AppArmor: enabled
Bug#1033207: vlc : HDR to SDR tone mapping does not work
Package: vlc Version: 3.0.18-2 Severity: important Dear Maintainer, * What led up to the situation? Using VLC with HDR content. * What exactly did you do (or not do) that was effective (or ineffective)? Using VLC for HDR content playback does not work properly ; on the other hand, MPV does work properly. * What was the outcome of this action? Content is not displayed properly in VLC. * What outcome did you expect instead? Same as with MPV. VLC was used in software decoding mode. >From what I could gather on official VLC channels, it could be due to a >problem in the build with libplacebo. Bug#947077: chromium: multiple windows restored stacked instead of their original positions
Package: chromium Version: 78.0.3904.108-1~deb10u1 Severity: normal Dear Maintainer, *** Reporter, please consider answering these questions, where appropriate *** * What led up to the situation? I updated Chromium to latest version available on Debian Buster Stable i.e. 78.0.3904.108-1~deb10u1. * What exactly did you do (or not do) that was effective (or ineffective)? When Chromium is killed unexpectedly, such as when I switch off my machine without closing first, I have the option to restore the windows and tabs previously open, which I use everyday. * What was the outcome of this action? Some windows appears with a different shape/size, behind others, on others screens, etc. Basically, it does not restore exactly the windows like they were before, contrary to what this function used to do before. Bug#942890: openssh-server: daemon slow to start
Package: openssh-server Version: 1:7.9p1-10+deb10u1 Severity: normal Dear Maintainer, After a fresh installation of Debian Buster stable on a HP Proliant Microserver Gen8, I found out that the ssh daemon was slow to start after a (re)boot. It manifests by the fact that the connection is refused by the server. I could take several minutes for the daemon to start and that I can connect to the server. Actually, it is always the slowest process to start ; when using systemd-analyze blame to monitor it, I discovered it was taken at least 60s. I think it might be a problem with minimal entropy needed; indeed, when I connect a keyboard to the machine and typing random characters without login in, the daemon would start after 10-20 characters typed. For the record, the OS is installed on an SSD. Bug#940580: gnome: drop-down notifications cannot be disabled in settings
Package: gnome Version: 1:3.30+1 Severity: normal Dear Maintainer, * What led up to the situation? Whatever the application (even exclusive full-screen applications), a drop-down notifications is always displayed and does not disappear until you hover/click on the notifications (which can lead some applications to crash). This behaviour has been disabled in the settings and seemed to be not enforced. It appears to be the same in dconf: the path is "org.gnome.desktop.notifications" and the item is "shows-banners". * What exactly did you do (or not do) that was effective (or ineffective)? I tried disabling through the "Settings" menu, or through dconf-editor, to avoid the drop-down notifications to make some on my exclusive full-screen apps. * What was the outcome of this action? The notifications/banners keep appearing, even the setting set to off. * What outcome did you expect instead? I was expecting not to see any drop-down notifications/banners anymore after having set its setting to off. Furthermore, I would expect, whatever if the setting is set to on or off, that the notifications would not appear above exclusive full-screen applications. Package: nvidia-driver Version: 418.74-1 Severity: critical Justification: breaks the whole system Dear Maintainer, * What led up to the situation? Bug#939471: gnome-control-center: Cracking sound emitted by speakers when opening the "Sound" panel (on the "Output" tab)
Package: gnome-control-center Version: 1:3.30.3-1 Severity: normal Dear Maintainer, Recently (a few weeks), I have been using for small periods of time my speakers (the speakers being connected to the chipset built-in audio, the headphones on the DAC). Since then, whenever I open the sound panel of the gnome-settings-center, I can hear a cracking sound being emitted by my speakers. * What led up to the situation? I could not know for sure, since I have been using an external DAC instead of the built-in audio and headphones instead of speakers since years. Recently (a few weeks), I have been using for small periods of time my speakers (the speakers being connected to the chipset built-in audio, the headphones on the DAC). * What exactly did you do (or not do) that was effective (or ineffective)? Nothing. Everytime the gnome-settings-center is opened for the first time between reboots, on the sound panel, I can hear a cracking sound on the speakers. I do not think it matters if it is the selected output but I am not sure. * What outcome did you expect? I was (naively?) just expecting to have the sound panel of the gnome-settings-center being open without having to hear any sound on any of the output. The only one behaving strangely is the built-in audio, connected to the speakers. * More info: I targeted this package as being responsible for this issue since it does not happen to have an obvious potential guilty package (did not see much in the dependancies regarding pulseaudio/alsa), so feel free to redirect my bug reported to whatever package is responsible for this bug. Bug#927401: linux-image-4.9.0-8-amd64: fails to recognize properly every time the same sound device
Package: src:linux Version: 4.9.144-3.1 Severity: normal Dear Maintainer, I am using a HiFimeDIY UAE23 USB DAC (ESS Sabre ES9023+Savitech SA9023) as the default sound output. This device is using the driver "snd-usb-audio". When I boot the system, it may or may not recognize the device properly, leading to have no sound anymore played on this output. I set the device as default sink, using `pacmd set-default-sink 0`, where the pulseaudio index 0 is the USB DAC. But when the machine boots with the device being in a bad state, the device name, vendor id and model id values change (while the id vendor id does not). Unplugging and plugging it back solves the issue, because the device name, vendor id and model id values change back to proper ones. I could provide a lot of outputs messages, but I tried to provide only the most relevant ones, let me know if you need more details. Package: usbutils Version: 1:007-4+b1 Severity: important File: /usr/bin/lsusb Dear Maintainer, I stumbled into `/usr/share/hwdata/usb.ids`, looking to see why some of my USB devices where not recognized, even though being not particulary recent. I was really surprised to that the hardware information were from mid-2015 (roughly 2 years before Debian 9 was released!) and that they had not been updated since. I ran `update-usbids` and I saw that the information were dated from last March. IMHO, these information should be updated automatically.
