Bug#1059673: trololio: autopkgtest failure with Python 3.12
Hi, I'm the author of Trololio. I've never posted to Debian mailing lists, so apologies if I don't follow proper etiquette. I did take a quick look at the relevant Wiki page and CoC. Trololio was written to make Python 3 async easily back-compatible with Python 2. The context is Trollius was a back-port of Python 3's asyncio module to Python 2, and Trololio provides a compatibility layer to support both with a single codebase. Similar to what the six module does for general 2/3 compatibility. Nowadays, Python 2 compatibility is not a priority for most anymore, and Trollius has been deprecated since at least 2018 [1]. And as per the discussion on GitHub, pagure-ev-server seems to be the only reverse dependency. Its author removed the dependency in a commit yesterday [2]. With that in mind, I think it's best to retire the package. If you do need to keep it working for stable, then I can try and update it to use importlib. Though I would rather not spend time on a Python 2 related project these days :) Thanks, ThinkChaos (they/them) [1] https://github.com/jamadden/trollius/commit/479788fb7b568c0c685599e55e0e98cab9fe474c [2] https://pagure.io/pagure/c/59edf699016d1049fdaecd1ff728ad8eeb355b64?branch=master
Bug#1011138: Workaround for bug #1011138
Not entirely sure, libssl-dev was 1.1.x while both libssl3 and libssl1.1 are installed. I assume that qt networking (and consequently kmail and other stuff like quassel) prefers the libssl.so symlink over libssl.so.3 but expects it to be 3.0. Bug#976817: mate-control-center: mate-appearance-properties isn't showing thumbnails when selecting a new wallpaper
Package: mate-control-center Version: 1.24.1-1 Severity: minor Dear Maintainer, There seems to be an issue generating thumbnails in mate-appearance- properties, namely when selecting a wallpaper, I'm greeted with a question mark inside a triangle icon. * What led up to the situation? I have installed debian 11 alpha 3 amd64 netinstall today (Dec 8th 2020) at 03AM EST. After logging in, installing firmware-amd-graphics for full resolution and rebooting *once* I was beginning to customize my desktop. I copied my folder of usual wallpapers, and opened mate-control- center's mate-appearance-properties to change the wallpaper. * What exactly did you do (or not do) that was effective (or ineffective)? I tried double checking the permissions on all wallpapers (they *can* be applied, just not thumbnailable I googled the issue and attempted to remove ~/.cache/thumbnails and relog. to no avail * What was the outcome of this action? Selecting any of the wallpapers I have (jpg/png formats) I get a icon on the right side of the selection window * What outcome did you expect instead? It seems to be a problem with emoji in general. I had same crash but with different symbol (⏱ U+23F1). I had package "fonts-noto-color-emoji" installed, removing it caused crashes to stop. Probably it's possible to make a fontconfig rule to make emacs not use that font.
Bug#890388: squashfs-tools: Add default value of -Xblock-size to man page
Source: squashfs-tools Version: 1:4.2+20130409-2 Severity: minor Dear Maintainer, Being generally somewhat confused by the wording in the man page regarding the default value of -Xdict-size to XZ, I would like to suggest an edit to include this information. Bug#870800: mount: ... overlapping loop device exists.
Package: util-linux Version: 2.29.2-1 Severity: normal Dear Maintainer, i just upgraded & dist-upgraded from raspbian jessie to raspbian stretch successfully. but now i have an issue mounting multiple partitions of a disk image. the first is mounted well as usual. (that issue was not present on debian jessie) the mount option in /etc/fstab: /x/2017-06-21-raspbian-jessie-lite.img /media/boot auto loop,ro,nofail,auto,offset=4194304 0 0 /x/2017-06-21-raspbian-jessie-lite.img /media/root auto loop,ro,nofail,auto,offset=48234496 0 0 the folders /media/boot and /media/root do exist. when i try to mount all with mount -a, i get the folowing error message: $ sudo mount -a mount: /x/2017-06-21-raspbian-jessie-lite.img: overlapping loop device exists in the man pages og mount i found that note: $ man mount ... THE LOOP DEVICE ... Since util-linux v2.29 mount command re-uses the loop device rather than initialize a new device if the same backing file is already used for some loop device with the same offset and sizelimit. This is necessary to avoid a filesystem corruption. ... but this will not explain the error message, because i am using different offests. the situation after the issue is: only the first partition is mounted properly $ sudo mount /x/2017-06-21-raspbian-jessie-lite.img on /media/boot type vfat (ro,relatime...) $ sudo losetup -a /dev/loop0: []: (/x/2017-06-21-raspbian-jessie-lite.img), offset 4194304 when i change the mount options in the /etc/fstab, to use a specific loop device per mount entry, i still run into that issue: /x/2017-06-21-raspbian-jessie-lite.img /media/boot auto loop=/dev/loop1,ro,nofail,auto,offset=4194304 0 0 /x/2017-06-21-raspbian-jessie-lite.img /media/root auto loop=/dev/loop2,ro,nofail,auto,offset=48234496 0 0 but when i do the same step by step (attaching a loop and mounting the loop) by hand, it works: $ sudo losetup --offset 4194304 /dev/loo1 /x/2017-06-21-raspbian-jessie-lite.img $ sudo mount /dev/loop1 /media/boot -o ro $ sudo losetup --offset 48234496 /dev/loop2 /x/2017-06-21-raspbian-jessie-lite.img $ sudo mount /dev/loop2 /media/root -o ro then the situation is as: $ sudo losetup -a /dev/loop1: [45826]:260076 (/x/2017-06-21-raspbian-jessie-lite.img), offset 4194304 /dev/loop2: [45826]:260076 (/x/2017-06-21-raspbian-jessie-lite.img), offset 48234496 $ sudo mount /dev/loop1 on /media/boot type vfat (ro,relatime...) /dev/loop2 on /media/root type vfat (ro,relatime...) so the big question is, how can i mount the two partitions of the same disk image at the same time with using /etc/fstab and mount -a? this is an issue on Debian Stretch and Raspbian Stretch. it was not an issue on Debian Jessie and Raspbian Jessie. -- System Information: Debian Release: 9.1 APT prefers stable APT policy: (500, 'stable') Architecture: amd64 (x86_64) Kernel: Linux 4.9.0-3-amd64 (SMP w/8 CPU cores) Locale: LANG=de_DE, LC_CTYPE=de_DE (charmap=ISO-8859-1), LANGUAGE=de_DE (charmap=ISO-8859-1) Shell: /bin/sh linked to /bin/dash Init: systemd (via /run/systemd/system) Versions of packages util-linux depends on: ii libblkid1 2.29.2-1 ii libc6 2.24-11+deb9u1 ii libfdisk1 2.29.2-1 ii libmount1 2.29.2-1 ii libncursesw5 6.0+20161126-1 ii libpam0g 1.1.8-3.6 ii libselinux12.6-3+b1 ii libsmartcols1 2.29.2-1 ii libsystemd0232-25+deb9u1 ii libtinfo5 6.0+20161126-1 ii libudev1 232-25+deb9u1 ii libuuid1 2.29.2-1 ii zlib1g 1:1.2.8.dfsg-5 util-linux recommends no packages. Bug#814081: Fails to keep USB key unmounted
Package: gnome-shell Version: 3.14.4-1~deb8u1 Dear Maintainer, I own a Kingston DataTraveler USB key. When I want to unplug it, I click on the "Eject" button in GNOME Shell's notification bar. The key is properly unmounted and disappears briefly from Nautilus, then it is immediately mounted again, as if I just plugged it. It annoys me because I can't be sure nothing is being written on the key when I unplug it, which can lead to data loss. I filed this bug for GNOME Shell because it doesn't happen with other desktops (I tried with XFCE, MATE, Ubuntu with Unity, and even Windows 10). Unmounting from Nautilus works as it should, too. The 'eject' command in a terminal works. It's really specific to GNOME Shell. It happens only with this USB key : I have two other keys from other brands and they are properly unmounted. I would assume it's just a bad quality USB firmware if it didn't happen only in GS. I can reproduce the bug on a fresh Jessie install. My kernel version is 3.16.7-ckt20-1+deb8u3. I observe the bug on the backported 4.3.0-0.bpo.1-amd64 kernel too.
Bug#814081: Random bug
I noticed that the bug happens randomly. Sometimes, I eject my USB key from the notification bar and it works.
Bug#763622: FIXED: backport 5.20140927~bpo70+1 is not installable due to unsatisfied git version in backports repo

It is possible to install git-annex from the backports (and I already did on multiple Debian stables) using the following command: # aptitude install -t wheezy-backports git-annex Note: obviously is not possible to install it, because of the wrong way to deal with the pinning, either with: aptitude install git-annex/wheezy-backports aptitude install git-annex=5.20140927~bpo70+1 if it is has not already installed the git version from backports. # apt-cache policy git git-annex git: Installed: 1:1.9.1-1~bpo70+2 Candidate: 1:1.9.1-1~bpo70+2 Version table: 1:2.1.4-2.1 0 500 http://ftp.de.debian.org/debian/ jessie/main amd64 Packages *** 1:1.9.1-1~bpo70+2 0 900 http://ftp.debian.org/debian/ wheezy-backports/main amd64 Packages 100 /var/lib/dpkg/status 1:1.7.10.4-1+wheezy1 0 910 http://ftp.de.debian.org/debian/ wheezy/main amd64 Packages git-annex: Installed: 5.20141024~bpo70+1 Candidate: 5.20141024~bpo70+1 Package pin: 5.20141024~bpo70+1 Version table: 5.20141125 1001 500 http://ftp.de.debian.org/debian/ jessie/main amd64 Packages *** 5.20141024~bpo70+1 1001 900 http://ftp.debian.org/debian/ wheezy-backports/main amd64 Packages 100 /var/lib/dpkg/status 3.20120629 1001 910 http://ftp.de.debian.org/debian/ wheezy/main amd64 Packages -- To UNSUBSCRIBE, email to debian-bugs-dist-requ...@lists.debian.org with a subject of unsubscribe. Bug#660291: More information
With 5 Edgeport/416 adapters to compare, I have found one that almost works right. It may stay connected for hours but it too periodically removes/adds the device files. The one with semi-sane behaviour has a SN that starts with E. All the other SNs look like W and I have asked the vendor for information about the one with the E format. I am also finding more information with dmesg. The others just cleanly disconnected and were added again. Bug#660291: Excessive USB disconnects (continuous udev add/remove cycles)
Package: linux-image-amd64 Severity: normal I have been tracking down a udev problem on an Edgeport/416 USB to serial adapter. At intervals of about a minute, a USB disconnect event initiates the removal of all the serial devices and udev events immediately add them again. I have used linux-image-2.6.32-5-amd64 and linux-image-3.2.0-1-rt-amd64 with the same results. I have a similar RHEL box with a 2.6 kernel that does not have this problem when we plug in these USB to serial adapters. Older Solaris boxes with sparc chips work fine too. I briefly looked at udev --stop-exec-queue options to turn off this problem but we really need to figure out what is generating all these kernel events. At this point I welcome some guidance in tracking down this problem and debugging it's cause. ** Sample of disconnects from kern.log 12:17:58 [ 3292.989138] usb 1-6.1.2.1: USB disconnect, device number 57 12:17:58 [ 3292.999124] usb 1-6.1.2.2: USB disconnect, device number 58 12:17:58 [ 3293.008832] usb 1-6.1.2.3: USB disconnect, device number 59 12:17:58 [ 3293.015760] usb 1-6.1.2.4: USB disconnect, device number 60 12:20:22 [ 3366.572103] usb 1-6.1.1.1: USB disconnect, device number 66 12:20:22 [ 3367.175598] usb 1-6.1.1.2: USB disconnect, device number 67 12:20:22 [ 3367.798563] usb 1-6.1.1.3: USB disconnect, device number 68 12:20:22 [ 3367.968966] usb 1-6.1: USB disconnect, device number 63 12:20:22 [ 3367.968974] usb 1-6.1.1: USB disconnect, device number 64 12:20:22 [ 3367.968980] usb 1-6.1.1.1: USB disconnect, device number 74 12:20:22 [ 3367.982488] usb 1-6.1.1.2: USB disconnect, device number 75 12:20:22 [ 3367.991994] usb 1-6.1.1.4: USB disconnect, device number 69 12:20:22 [ 3368.008326] usb 1-6.1.2: USB disconnect, device number 65 12:20:22 [ 3368.008336] usb 1-6.1.2.1: USB disconnect, device number 70 12:20:22 [ 3368.016953] usb 1-6.1.2.2: USB disconnect, device number 71 12:20:22 [ 3368.025368] usb 1-6.1.2.3: USB disconnect, device number 72 12:20:22 [ 3368.036728] usb 1-6.1.2.4: USB disconnect, device number 73 12:20:26 [ 3441.455259] usb 1-6.1.1.1: USB disconnect, device number 79 12:20:26 [ 3442.165748] usb 1-6.1.1.2: USB disconnect, device number 80 12:20:47 [ 3442.793747] usb 1-6.1.1.3: USB disconnect, device number 81 12:20:47 [ 3442.977123] usb 1-6.1: USB disconnect, device number 76 12:20:47 [ 3442.977131] usb 1-6.1.1: USB disconnect, device number 77 12:20:47 [ 3442.977138] usb 1-6.1.1.1: USB disconnect, device number 87 12:20:47 [ 3442.986743] usb 1-6.1.1.2: USB disconnect, device number 88 12:20:47 [ 3443.006257] usb 1-6.1.1.4: USB disconnect, device number 82 12:20:47 [ 3443.020308] usb 1-6.1.2: USB disconnect, device number 78 12:20:47 [ 3443.020317] usb 1-6.1.2.1: USB disconnect, device number 83 12:20:47 [ 3443.032771] usb 1-6.1.2.2: USB disconnect, device number 84 12:20:47 [ 3443.040921] usb 1-6.1.2.3: USB disconnect, device number 85 12:20:47 [ 3443.052330] usb 1-6.1.2.4: USB disconnect, device number 86 12:24:40 [ 3516.466407] usb 1-6.1.1.1: USB disconnect, device number 92 12:24:40 [ 3517.177891] usb 1-6.1.1.2: USB disconnect, device number 93 12:24:40 [ 3517.802897] usb 1-6.1.1.3: USB disconnect, device number 94 12:24:40 [ 3517.985147] usb 1-6.1: USB disconnect, device number 89 12:24:40 [ 3517.985154] usb 1-6.1.1: USB disconnect, device number 90 12:24:40 [ 3517.985161] usb 1-6.1.1.1: USB disconnect, device number 100 12:24:40 [ 3517.993217] usb 1-6.1.1.2: USB disconnect, device number 101 12:24:40 [ 3518.007329] usb 1-6.1.1.4: USB disconnect, device number 95 12:24:40 [ 3518.017686] usb 1-6.1.2: USB disconnect, device number 91 12:24:40 [ 3518.017699] usb 1-6.1.2.1: USB disconnect, device number 96 12:24:40 [ 3518.028317] usb 1-6.1.2.2: USB disconnect, device number 97 12:24:40 [ 3518.036874] usb 1-6.1.2.3: USB disconnect, device number 98 12:24:40 [ 3518.048563] usb 1-6.1.2.4: USB disconnect, device number 99 12:24:40 [ 3591.477544] usb 1-6.1.1.1: USB disconnect, device number 105 12:24:40 [ 3592.190021] usb 1-6.1.1.2: USB disconnect, device number 106 12:24:40 [ 3592.799171] usb 1-6.1.1.3: USB disconnect, device number 107 12:24:40 [ 3592.993423] usb 1-6.1: USB disconnect, device number 102 12:24:40 [ 3592.993430] usb 1-6.1.1: USB disconnect, device number 103 12:24:40 [ 3592.993437] usb 1-6.1.1.1: USB disconnect, device number 113 12:24:40 [ 3593.001266] usb 1-6.1.1.2: USB disconnect, device number 114 12:24:40 [ 3593.011289] usb 1-6.1.1.4: USB disconnect, device number 108 12:24:40 [ 3593.042755] usb 1-6.1.2: USB disconnect, device number 104 12:24:40 [ 3593.042767] usb 1-6.1.2.1: USB disconnect, device number 109 12:24:40 [ 3593.052853] usb 1-6.1.2.2: USB disconnect, device number 110 12:24:40 [ 3593.063874] usb 1-6.1.2.3: USB disconnect, device number 111 12:24:40 [ 3593.079793] usb 1-6.1.2.4: USB disconnect, device number 112 12:24:40 [ 3666.488702] usb 1-6.1.1.1: USB disconnect, device number 118 12:24:40 [

Bug#616051: no root account after installation
Package: installation-reports Version: 6.0.0 Besides other problems with my new installation of Debian 6.0.0 (stable), I am unable to sign in as root (I do have the right password). The sign-in screen (which is for GNOME only) has only my user account listed besides other. When I click other and put in root or su- and then insert the correct password I get the message Authentication failure. This is a i386 version DVD#1 ISO downloaded from the Debian web-sight onto a MS Windows machine. Then, burned to a DVD+R disk using Roxio easy media creator 10 software to create a boot-able disk. I have two HD's, one with Windows XP and the other HD new and blank that I partitioned (using guided partitioning with LVM option three- home,root,swap.1. temp, usr partitions) and installed Debian on. Inside of GNOME going to Update Manager, Software Sources, Synoptic Package Manager, and Users and Groups (under the System/Administration header) I can input the root password and then work as an administrator in those dialog boxes. But, after becoming an Administrator for this session, in the Network Settings, and Time Day dialog boxes it says Authentication Needed with no way to input a password though I don't need to re-input the password in again going back to say the Update Manager. When I set myself up as Administrator for this session I still cannot do any root work in a terminal screen. Also, when I logout of GNOME I can only turn off the machine and when I turn on the machine I can only log into GNOME. The only way to get a command line is to open a terminal within GNOME. I don't know if this is normal or not as I am new to Linux. As this seems to be a major bug, could it be that I somehow have a corrupted DVD, as there are a couple of other problems I also have at this early date. (grub doesn't list my Windows OS at boot time though it mentioned it during the installation, and also my two HD's were listed as SCSI instead of IDE during installation). I do not have an internet connection for the machine I have installed Debian on so I cannot send in any scripts that were generated. If all else fails, could I simply re-partition and reinstall to totally get rid of everything on the HD I put Debian on. The only thing with this would be grub which I think is on the MBR of my HD with the windows OS on it, would that be a problem or would a new grub be generated along with the new installation. Thanks and hope you can help, Stan Ryan.
Bug#587397: grub
As with the others, grub recognized my other OS (windows XP professional) when I installed 6.0.0 squeeze (stable) i386 I downloaded, but when I booted only Linux ( Linux safe mode) were listed and would boot. I have two hard drives: listed as *sda* I have windows on (and did not change it's partition table), and a bare new hard drive listed as *sdb* is where I partitioned/formatted using guided partitioning with LVM's third option (home, root, swap, temp, usr) and installed Debian. I only installed the defined collections Graphical desktop environment standard utilities. It was strange when Debian listed the two hard drives as SCSI1 (sda), and SCSI3 (sdb). My system has only IDE channels: IDE channel 0 Master - old HD with windows, IDE channel 1 Master- DVD drive, IDE channel 2 Master- the new HD (SATA drive connection). Others have said they corrected the GRUB problem by running update-grub. How do I do that? When I tried update-grub I got a on such command message. Stan.

Bug#591977: kpartx: udev autostart + strict matching for removal == bad idea
Package: kpartx Version: 0.4.8+git0.761c66f-9 Severity: important When using 'kpartx -d', one has to provide the exact same filename than used for addition (no symlinks, same relative path, etc.). In addition, kpartx installs files in /etc/udev to automatically map some devices. Bug#393605: Regex at start of hostname pattern ignored
Package: privoxy Version: 3.0.5-beta-2 Severity: important bug previously filed at sourceforge, but the privoxy team could not reproduce http://sourceforge.net/tracker/index.php?func=detailaid=1568816group_id=8atid=18 Previously (3.0.3 and earlier), a domain pattern such as [0-9].example.com would match a domain X.example.com where X is an integer 0-9. This appears to no longer be the case with 3.0.5 beta. The pattern actually seems to be irrelevant, [a-z].example.com will not match k.example.com. A pattern w[0-9].example.com will still match w5.example.com I downgraded to 3.0.3 and the problem disappeared. Bug#286758: Aw: Re: kernel-image-2.6.9-powerpc: Same openpic hang on PowerBook
- Original Nachricht Von: Sven Luther [EMAIL PROTECTED] An: [EMAIL PROTECTED] Datum: 04.03.2005 17:40 Betreff: Re: kernel-image-2.6.9-powerpc: Same openpic hang on PowerBook Can you make a formal bug report against kernel-source-2.6.8 for this problem ? Sure. But at the moment 2.6.10-3 is in testing/sarge. Do you want to downgrade? Nope, 2.6.8-11 is in sarge, and 2.6.10-3 stays in sid, and 2.6.8-11 is still our release candidate. I'm quite sure that Synaptic said on Friday that 2.6.10-3 was in testing. Either it actually was, or it was a bug in Synaptic or a bug in my head. ;-) Today it's in unstable. But it's 2.6.8-9 which is in testing and 2.6.8-11 is in unstable. I have 2.6.8-11 installed as one option for booting. This version is flickering (probably also versions before, because in Novemer I installed sarge). Arcor-DSL: die echte Flatrate für alle Bandbreiten. Bug#286758: kernel-image-2.6.9-powerpc: Same openpic hang on PowerBook
Hi Martin, kernel-image-2.6.10-powerpc (2.6.10-3) is working without this issue on my Powerbook G4 1.5 GHz, ATI Mobility Radeon 128 MB. On 2.6.8 I haven't seen this bug, but another one: It seems to be impossible to configure X so that it isn't flickering at all. Either you use 'append=video=ofonly' in /etc/yaboot.conf in order to avoid a slight horizontal flickering already visible in text mode, then there's only a wild flickering when you start X. Or you use 'append=video=radeonfb' in order to make X usable, but then this slight horizontal fllickering remains also in the graphical mode. See also http://debianhelp.org/modules.php?op=modloadname=phpBB_14file=indexaction=viewtopictopic=726730654 So if you are going to release sarge with 2.6.8, then there will be computers that won't work with Debian stable for probably another 3 or 4 years, regarding the release cycles of Debian. So Sarge will be out of date when released. The only possibility would be to use testing or unstable, which sometimes is what the name says, or another distribution or Mac OS X (which is what I'm doing most of the time anyway). But at the moment 2.6.10-3 is in testing/sarge. Do you want to downgrade? Jens Arcor-DSL: die echte Flatrate für alle Bandbreiten. Jetzt ohne Einrichtungspreis einsteigen oder wechseln.
