… right, thanks again. It should be fixed now (both on mentors and on
salsa).

I see your point, I'll keep that in mind. However, unless you really
think it would be best to keep it, I'd leave as it is to get rid of that
lintian warning.

I also went through:
https://www.debian.org/doc/packaging-manuals/upgrading-checklist.txt
to update the Standards version, which apparently required no additional
changes to the package, or the metadata. Hope that's fine.

Hi!
The package's changelog is set as UNRELEASED, which marks the current state
as not meant for upload.

The changelog doesn't also list your takeover.

The package fails to build:
dh_installdocs: Cannot find (any matches for)
"debian/README-Debian-much-features-such-wow" (tried in ., debian/tmp)
(the file is deleted in the packaging now)

Rules-Require-Root should be "Requires".

Hi,

thanks a lot for your prompt response!

I really apologise for the silly mistake on dh_installdocs: it should be
fixed now, together with the other issues you reported.

I pushed the modifications on salsa, and uploaded the package on
mentors.debian.net

I also took the liberty of removing: ${shlibs:Depends} from the list of
dependencies. They were empty, plus easy-rsa is just a shell script that
relies solely on openssl, which is explicit in the package. Hope that's
fine.

Cheers,

Bug#854403: paxctld flags for GNOME

2017-02-06 Thread Michele Orru`
Package: paxctld
Version: 1.2.1-1
Severity: normal
Tags: patch

Dear Maintainer,

one of the current problems preventing widespread adoption of grsec patches is
that
the current paxctld.conf doesn't work with a default debian installation: gdm3
totally breaks down, gnome-shell itself segfaults, plus when systemd tries to
reanimate gdm3 the whole thing ends up in a messy, frustrating loop.

On my debian testing, with the following configuration, I can use gnome-shell
with X and wayland. I'm aware the patch is incomplete (for example, I didn't
check all gnome apps), but I'd say this is a start and at least gives the
opportunity of changing things within the comfort of a running desktop.

I am also aware that there exists a similar bug report (#822734) that is hanging
still, but the dude over there seemed more interested in porting the paxctl.conf
from archlinux, and anyways doesn't cover the same binaries I am.

[I hope I'll be able to motivate a bit in more detail why the flags are what
they are and maybe provide a patch myself soon… in the meantime running on ther
 machines]

Bug#820581: apt-listchanges: AttributeError in frontend.progress_done()

2016-04-10 Thread Michele Orru`
Package: apt-listchanges
Version: 2.89
Severity: normal

Dear Maintainer,

I am having this error while trying to update my system (this is actually
observed running "apt autoremove"):

Do you want to continue? [Y/n]
Traceback (most recent call last):
  File "/usr/bin/apt-listchanges", line 247, in

  frontend.progress_done()
AttributeError: 'list' object has no attribute 'progress_done'
(Reading database ... 467204 files and directories currently installed.)

On IRC, I got the following advice that's perhaps I good idea reporting:

maker: With a quick glance of the apt-listchanges, it
looks like a bug in the code. [T]hey have a "make_frontend" call that returns
either a frontend or an empty list, but they don't seem to handle the empty list
case (I guess they wanted "None" instead, which is handled).

After this error, apt proceeds smoothly.

Bug#820549: anarchism: Typo in section H1

2016-04-09 Thread Michele Orru`
Package: anarchism
Version: 14.0-4
Severity: normal
Tags: upstream

Dear Maintainer,

In section H.1 of the faq, I read «These critiques contain may important ideas
and so are worth summarising», where "may" is probably a "many" mispelled.

I just thought it was a typo, and that it would have been nice to report
it. I also downloaded the version proposed in #773529, and I can confirm this
bug still applies.

Bug#817119: usrmerge: /etc/shells contains links to actual shells

2016-03-08 Thread Michele Orru`
Package: usrmerge
Version: 10
Severity: important

Dear Maintainer,

with usrmerge, some programs - such as pkexec, or LEAP's bitmask on top of that-
fails to run. Specifically, the error I get is:

The value for the SHELL variable was not found the /etc/shells file

and indeed my SHELL variable is set to "/usr/bin/bash", but /etc/shells
contains "/bin/bash". Adding $SHELL to /etc/shells solves the problem.

I would be happy to provide a patch for this if needed, but first: do you
acknowledge that this is a bug of usrmerge? I couldn't find anywhere that lines
of /etc/shells must not be symlinks.

Kind regards,

though debian/sid is still at the 0.19 version:

I would *love* to see an up-to-date version of the python-storm package, above
all because it is an essential dependency of globaleaks

Bug#754364: python-pycountry: Python 3 support for pycountry

2014-08-25 Thread Michele Orru`
Hi Michael,

I tried to address the issues you mentioned - the new package is in mentors.
http://mentors.debian.net/package/pycountry

 1. The debian revision version number must reflect the NMU, i.e.
 should be -0.1, not -1
Fixed, my apologies for this silly error.

 2. The distribution must be unstable, not unreleased
Fixed, my apologies for this silly error.

 3. The package fails to build for me, it apparently required
python3-setuptools (which would be consistent with the other python
 package Build-Depends):
Fixed, there was also `unzip`, which I missed. Thanks!

 4. The package in unstable got repackaged (+ds1 upstream version number)
to remove a duplicated copy of isocodes, according to README.source. The
new package does not have that, either the upstream version number shold
be amended to reflect that, or README.source should get
 removed/adjusted
Not sure what you mean here.
In [0] I see that src/pycountry/{databases,locales} are still
there, so the target get-orig-source in debian/rules might be still
needed. I've updated it to deal with new package versions. Hope that's
fine.

 5. 02-support_language_common-name.patch got removed, that should be
 mentioned in the changelog
Fixed, my apologies for this silly error.

 6. There's a typo in the changelog: Add .zip urls to wach,
 s/wach/watch
Fixed, my apologies for this silly error.

Dear Maintainer,

At the time of this writing, the latest version of pycountry available in debian
is 0.14, while upstream counts at 1.8[0].

Updating to 1.8 would be great not only because the package is right now
obsolete, but above all for the presence of unittests[1] and python 3
support[2].
The latter in particular, is going to be used by Tails sooner or later[3].

Trying to be of some help, I have updated the package, and it now resides in

Bug#751508: parallel: package building is not idempotent

2014-06-13 Thread Michele Orru`
Package: parallel
Version: 20130922-1
Severity: normal
Tags: upstream patch

Dear Maintainer,

currently, parallel is shipped with precompiled documentation (manpages, texis,
htmls, pdfs), which is re-generated at every `make`, but not cleaned by `make
clean`.

On one hand this implies that `make` will alter files present in the original
package (provided that I run a different version of those tools, which is the
case for Pod::Man in jessie for example). This is not ideally good.

On the other hand, `make clean` only removes *.html files, keeping the rest of
the compiled documentation alive after dh_clean. This makes `dpkg-source`
complain if run more than once. [poc]

I think this is more a problem on the gnu side; I've already sent a bug
report to them[*]. In the meantime, as a mere exercise of style, I have updated
the debian package so that `dpkg-buildpackage` can be run an arbitrary number of
times without crashing.
It can be found at https://mentors.debian.net/package/parallel. Please let me
know if it's of any need.

Bug#749355: parallel: /usr/bin/parallel conflicts with moreutils' parallel

2014-05-27 Thread Michele Orru`
Rogério Brito rbr...@ime.usp.br writes:

Given the state of the discussions at the time when I decided that the
conflicts was the path of least resistance and that I am sincerely not sure
how things have evolved, I would, yes, appreciate your help with the social
 side of things.

BTW, be warned that in current versions of parallel (which I have not yet
packaged, but will soon) the compatibility option with moreutils was pending
to be removed or is removed already, which would make things even harder.
Wouldn't it be possible to let the user decide by himself via
`update-alternatives`?

The discussion may converge as well on the default symlink, but at least
one could use some moreutil's tools in pair with gnu parallel.

For example, consider the following use case:
$ cat foo.txt | parallel ./bar.sh | sponge foo.txt
Which is right now not possible in debian jessie.

2014-05-26 Thread Michele Orru`
Package: parallel
Version: 20130922-1
Severity: important

Dear Maintainer,

at the moment, the package parallel/testing conflicts with moreutils/testing, as
both are shipping the binary /usr/bin/parallel. There's no need for such
conflict; in wheezy for example, moreutils' parallel is located in
parallel.moreoutils.

I'm dropping down here some fragments of the discussion I've had on
#debian-next. Hope they might be useful for you.
babilen moreutil's parallel should have just been replaced by the GNU version,
  but that discussion is *old*
themill (in wheezy, parallel just diverts /usr/bin/parallel.moreutils)
themill It would be appropriate to file a bug against parallel here --
there's no need for that conflict and I don't believe that policy
  permits ot

If there's any way I could help fixing this, I would be glad to offer my help.
