There exist bugs with low severity ("wishlist" > severity), but no bugs with zero severity. > Or, at least, these are the terms and definitions adopted by the Debian > BTS, and apt-listbugs tries to follow the same nomenclature. I am not sure that I agree with that usage of the word "severity". It implies, IMO, a certain level of gravity to be relevant. From The Collaborative International Dictionary of English v.0.48 [gcide]: Severity \Se*ver"i*ty\, n.; pl. {Severities}. [L. severitas: cf. F. s['e]v['e]rit['e].] The quality or state of being severe. Specifically: [1913 Webster] (a) Gravity or austerity; extreme strictness; rigor; harshness; as, the severity of a reprimand or a reproof; severity of discipline or government; severity of penalties. "Strict age, and sour severity." --Milton. [1913 Webster] (b) The quality or power of distressing or paining; extreme degree; extremity; intensity; inclemency; as, the severity of pain or anguish; the severity of cold or heat; the severity of the winter. [1913 Webster] (c) Harshness; cruel treatment; sharpness of punishment; as, severity practiced on prisoners of war. [1913 Webster] (d) Exactness; rigorousness; strictness; as, the severity of a test. [1913 Webster] But as you point out, since that is indeed the word the Debian folks have chosen, maybe we should adopt it also in the translations. > By the way, if set up my web browser to request the [BTS home page] in > Danish, I see the following sentence: > > | Gyldige alvorlighedsgrader er critical, grave, serious, important, > | normal, minor, wishlist, fixed. > which is the Danish translation of > > | Valid severities are critical, grave, serious, important, normal, > | minor, wishlist, fixed. > > [BTS home page]: <https://www.debian.org/Bugs/> > > Hence, it seems to me that the Danish translation adopted on the BTS > for "severities" is "alvorlighedsgrader". > We should perhaps use the same translation for apt-listbugs (?). "Alvorlighed" is not broken Danish as such, but it is a somewhat clumsy synonym for "alvor". So "alvorlighedsgrader" should be changed to "alvorsgrader" in any case. - alvorsgrad (singular) - alvorsgrader (plural) > Thanks for your time! Likewise! Morten
Bug#856232: routino-www: Data files in /var/lib/routino/data not created
Sebastiaan Couwenbergwrote: > Control: severity -1 important > Control: tags -1 moreinfo > > Hi Morten, > > You need to run planetsplitter to create these files, have you done that? No, not initially. The documentation is somewhat sparse. The first thing I do whenever I install a package with a less that trivial usage, is to read the README.Debian and README.txt files. This former just says that the data files are created after planetsplitter is run. I surmised that this happened automatically upon installation. But I suppose that leaving it to the user is sensible given that the user has to fetch the *.osm files first. Anyway, I did this and ran planetsplitter and the data files have been created in the right directory, but there is still no map in http://localhost/routino/router.html. I will see if I can get it to work and then sometime I will post a documentation patch to the README.Debian file. I think the documentation needs to be better. Thanks, Morten

Bug#790877: njam: X events cause njam window mode change
Markus Koschany a...@gambaru.de wrote: Ok, this indicates that it is an underlying problem either with one component of your desktop environment (notification daemon, window manager) or SDL 1.2 because more games are affected by it. Fwiw, I tried to replace xfwm4 with blackbox and it makes no change, so if the problem lies with a component of xfce4, it does not seem to be with its window manager. Did you restart X or did you log out and log in again? (Just to be sure) Yes, I logged out and in - that restarts xfce4. I will clone this bug report and reassign the cloned bug to one of the Xfce components. It is possible that the Xfce maintainers are better placed to identify the root cause. I don't think that we can fix this behavior in Njam alone. Okay, thank you. Morten -- To UNSUBSCRIBE, email to debian-bugs-dist-requ...@lists.debian.org with a subject of unsubscribe. Trouble? Markus Koschany a...@gambaru.de wrote: It is more likely an issue with xfce4-notifyd. Personally I use the notification-daemon. I'm not sure if xfce4-notifyd can be easily replaced by it, but I would give it a try. But Markus, like I wrote, the problem exists even without any components of xfce4 running. The fix is then to make the upstream developer use SDL2 rather thans SDL1.2, I guess. Morten -- To UNSUBSCRIBE, email to debian-bugs-dist-requ...@lists.debian.org with a subject of unsubscribe. Bug#790877: njam: X events cause njam window mode change
Hi Markus, Markus Koschany a...@gambaru.de wrote: please answer the following questions which might be necessary to solve this issue: 1. What kind of desktop environment do you use? Xfce4 from unstable. 2. What video card and drivers do you use? Intel HD Graphics 4600. The driver is delivered by the kernel and the kernel is the latest from unstable. So the question is what application causes Njam to shift from fullscreen mode to windowed mode? It could be any application that pops up a message, such as xmessage, gmessage. Xscreensaver also caused this to happen and it disabled keyboard input also. Exactly what event by xscreensaver that caused it, I do not know. Bug#790877: njam: X events cause njam window mode change
Markus Koschany a...@gambaru.de wrote: I have found a longstanding Xfce bug report about notifications. https://bugzilla.xfce.org/show_bug.cgi?id=7928 If I understand correctly, currently notifications should not even be displayed, if an application or game runs in fullscreen mode. Can you reproduce the same issue with other SDL1.2 games or applications like Iceweasel, Totem etc. which run in fullscreen mode? I tried prboom-plus and burgerspace in fullscreen mode and they exhibit the same behaviour sort of: The pop up message is displayed on top of the fullscreen window which then changes to windowed mode just like njam. However for prboom the windowed mode is nearly fullscreen except for the window top bar. Burgerspace changes to a small window like njam. But burgerspace switches back to fullscreen mode again almost immediately whereas njam stays in windowed mode for a longer period. Maybe related bug reports: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/xfce4-notifyd/+bug/1092224 https://bugzilla.xfce.org/show_bug.cgi?id=8751 I am not sure they are relevant. The underlying issue might be more complex but I suppose it is Xfce specific. You could also try to disable the Xfce compositor / composite effects and see if this has any implications. There should be an option under Settings - window manager tweaks. I did, it does not make the problem go away. If you can reproduce the same issue with other applications or games in fullscreen mode, we could clone this bug report and reassign to Xfce4. Okay, if you think it is Xfce4 specific, I would appreciate if you would do this. Thanks, Morten -- To UNSUBSCRIBE, email to debian-bugs-dist-requ...@lists.debian.org with a subject of unsubscribe. Bug#790773: gparted: Bug in gparted script
Hi Curtis, I am sorry. From a very long time ago I set the environment variable I_WANT_A_BROKEN_PS and it screws up (as it rightly advertises!) the workings of ps. I only ever use ps aux which it does not tamper with so it never occurred to me that this problem was lurking. It's been there for many, many years and I never noticed. Anyway, maybe using pidof as a check would be a good alternative to using ps? You can close this bug. Package: localepurge Version: 0.7.3.2 Severity: wishlist Dear Maintainer, I just had this issue with the program songwrite, that it failed to run because the author of that program has chosen to put the English gettext messages into a separate file rather than having them directly in the source code as is the norm. There were no message catalogs (*.mo) in my own chosen locales included with the program and there it failed to run. I suggest that localepurge never delete English gettext message catalogs under /usr/share/locale/en/LC_MESSAGES/. The space taken up by these files is surely minimal and it would prevent a problem such as this in most cases. Bug#748979: songwrite fails to run
Martin Steghöfer mar...@steghoefer.eu wrote: Hi Morten, thanks for your bug report. Unfortunately, I couldn't reproduce your problem. So we may need further information. Let's start with this: Does the file /usr/share/locale/en/LC_MESSAGES/songwrite.mo exist in your system? Cheers, Martin Hi Martin, Okay, that was pretty straightforward: The gettext message file was not there because I use the localepurge program. I installed it manually and now the program starts fine. Correct me if I am wrong, but I believe that usually the English messages are part of the program's source code (and thus compiled directly into it) whereas only the message files with translations into other languages are held in separate gettext message catalogs. It never crossed my mind that this could be the problem. If you want to have it the way it is now, maybe you could a check for the presence of the localepurge program in the debian preinst script and issue a warning to the user that the program will not run if the English message catalog is deleted? Package: udev Version: 175-3.1 Severity: important Hi, This affects a fresh installation of a Debian Testing system. My scanner, which is connected through firewire stopped working. However the scsi device files sg[*] are not being created automatically under /dev, which I believe they should. I need to manually type: $ sudo modprobe sg in order to have the scsi device files created and then of course things work again. I believe that this is a bug in the udev package. However, if you think that I am barking up the wrong tree, feel free to close this bug right away, possibly giving me a kind hint of where report instead (or what to fix). Fwiw, I have an Ubuntu installation on the same computer and there everything works as expected. Bug#654225: zsh: Multibyte fails when $LANG.utf variable is not set
Frank Terbeck f...@bewatermyfriend.org wrote: If you still think this is a bug and not an error in your setup, then please provide a concise way to reproduce the issue, because so far I've invested about an hour into seeing that everything works as expected. ;) If I am missing something, tell me what it is exactly. What you are missing is that you never once tried the combination setting I described as causing problem. Please try to set a non-utf8 _country_ locale for the LANG variable together with a utf8 locale for the LC_ALL variable. E.g. at your zsh prompt: export LANG=de_DE export LC_ALL=de_DE.utf8 type in e.g. an umlaut character, type backspace to delete it and notice that it is deleted piecemeal by octet. It should happen to you too! Despite the sillyness of this locale combination, zsh should not deactivate multibyte support. I can do exactly the same in bash and there is no problem. I do not see how this could be anything in my setup. I tried to load zsh with the -f parameter and it makes no change. There were no locale related settings in my ~/.environment. This combination export LANG= export LC_ALL=da_DK.utf8 is okay. So it is the specific combination of a non-utf8 country locale for LANG and a utf8 country locale for LC_ALL that is at fault. Package: zsh Version: 4.3.12-1 Severity: normal Hi, I could not get multibyte support to work in zsh, even if I had a, what seemed to me, perfectly working utf-8 environment. I then checked the output from the locale command and noticed that all my LC_.* variables were set to da_DK.utf8 whereas the $LANG variable missed the utf8 extension. As soon as I changed it to include this extension, then multibyte support worked. As noted, the lack of this setting has not affected me at all except in zsh (multibyte support worked fine in bash for instance). I believe that zsh should check both the values of the LC_CTYPE variable and the LANG variable. Bug#654225: zsh: Multibyte fails when $LANG.utf variable is not set
Frank Terbeck f...@bewatermyfriend.org wrote: Locale settings work like this: LC_* variables control the different pieces of the puzzle, when one of those is not set `LANG' is used as a fallback. `LC_ALL' is special, because it overrides all other LC_* variables and `LANG' becomes meaningless. [...] Locale: LANGÚ_DK.utf8, LC_CTYPEÚ_DK.utf8 (charmap=UTF-8) (ignored: LC_ALL set to da_DK.utf8) You're setting `LC_ALL'. So the setting of `LANG' shouldn't matter at all. But it does. It is completely reproducible. If $LANG is set to da_DK then multibyte support is deactivated. If $LANG is da_DK.utf8 then it works. I did take a quick look at the involved code and I didn't see anything obviously wrong with it. `LANG' should *not* matter with `LC_ALL' set. If it does, that's a bug. That was my opinion too. Can you give a minimal zsh setup and a simple way to trigger the problem you're seeing for further inspection? Reproducing it is very simple. Just type export e.g. LANG=da_DK at the prompt, then type in a multibyte character, type backspace or whatever delete backwards key that you use and notice how it deletes the multibyte character by octet. Type export LANG=da_DK.utf8 repeat the procedure and notice how the character is now correctly deleted in one fell swoop. I attach my rather small zshrc. ~/.zshenv is a symlink to ~/.environment which just set a lot of environment variables. It is there that I now specifiy the LANG variable which makes zsh behave correctly. zprofile and zlogin are empty. On a sidenote, I did specifiy LANG=da_DK.utf8 in /etc/default/locale along with LC_ALL=da_DK.utf8. This is supposedly the right way to set your locale in Debian, but only the first line with LC_ALL is read. Maybe I should file a bug report for that against the locales package? Bug#336879: minicom: Tell user of localized versions to use -8 flag
Package: minicom Version: 2.1-9 Severity: wishlist Tags: l10n I have just done a Danish translation of the gettext messages of minicom, and I noted that the special Danish characters, 0xF8, 0xE6, etc. do not show correctly in the minicom user interface, unless I start minicom with the -8 flag. This would be a pain to look at for some user who did not think about the existance of this flag, and therefore would probably turn off localized messages to get rid of it. I therefore suggest that an informative debconf message be made that pops up in the face of the user upon installation of minicom and which says something like: Please note that if you are using a locale of non-english languages and your alphabet contains 8-bit characters, you may not be able to view these characters properly unless you start minicom with the -8 flag (run minicom -h for a list of startup parameters). This only applies of course if a translation of minicom for your language has been made available. Bug#320474: dict-freedict-eng-deu: Majority of words not found by dict
Package: dict-freedict-eng-deu Version: 1.1-4ubuntu1 Severity: important Lots of words from this wordlist returns no definitions when searched for by dict(1). E.g.: ~$ dict -P - -C -d fd-eng-deu secret No definitions found for secret but there is indeed an entry for the word secret in the wordlist, and this sort of error happens more often than not when it shouldn't. Bug#291425: Updated Danish translation of the debconf-template for xprt-xprintorg
Package: xprt-xprintorg Version: 0.1.0.alpha1-6 Severity: wishlist Tags: patch l10n An updated Danish translation of the debconf-template for xprt-xprintorg is in the attachment. To Drew Parsons: Could you please tell me if it is ok for me to include the po-file gzipped and uuencoded rather as an attachment? I would like to integrate my reporting of translations into my editor instead of using reportbug, but the mail function of my editor (jed) does not handle MIME. Thanks, Morten xprint-xprintorg_0.1.0.alpha1-6_da.po.gz Description: Binary data
