this started to happen (which I don't remember) had
the same problem on one computer. The KMail installation on a different
computer connects to the same server, thus also uses the same data, and
always ran the same version as on the faulty installation.

KMail runs fine with a backed up kmailrc (with and without TLS), so the
reported problem seems to be restricted to newly created IMAP configurations.
