Bug#949231: linux-image-4.19.0-6-amd64: USB3 stops working after resume from disk

2020-01-18 Thread Stefan Völkel
Package: src:linux
Version: 4.19.67-2+deb10u2
Severity: normal

Dear Maintainer,

after a suspend-to-disk / resume cycle the front side USB3 Ports on my ESPRIMO
Q900 no loger work.

FYI, reportbug told me that:

Your version of linux-image-4.19.0-6-amd64 (4.19.67-2+deb10u2) is newer
than that in Debian!

This was a stretch + bpo kernel system upgraded to buster, my guess is that's
the reason for the kernel version.

FWIW the problem did not occur with 4.19.0-5-bpo.

Since reportbug did not capture xhci dmesg entries:

Bug#880894: terminator: starting 2nd instance moves 1st instance to the same virtual desktop with xfce4

2017-11-05 Thread Stefan Völkel
Package: terminator
Version: 1.90+bzr-1705-1
Severity: normal

Dear Maintainer,

when running xfce4:

   * What led up to the situation?

1) Start terminator
2) Switch to a different Virtual Desktop
3) Start terminator again

   * What was the outcome of this action?

1st terminator instance is moved from it's virtual desktop to the
currently selected one.

   * What outcome did you expect instead?

1st terminator instance stays on it's virtual desktop.

Please note there I found a bug report in redhat's tracker:

https://bugzilla.redhat.com/show_bug.cgi?id=1422390

I backported terminator 1.91-1 from testing to stable and the problem is gone
for me. Also note, the version infromation below are from a system with said
backport installed.

Thanks,

Stefan

Bug#758808: Broken 70-persistent-net.rules

2017-01-31 Thread Stefan Völkel
I am seeing this problem with a broken generated 70-persistent-net.rules.

After adding a new network card the generated 70-persistent-net.rules had two
lines with NAME="eth1".

Renaming the first interface works, the second interface keeps a renameX name.

Once the duplicate NAME entry is fixed in 70-persistent-net.rules the mount
succeeds.

Bug#722317: This is still a problem

2016-12-22 Thread Stefan Völkel
Hi,

while this is an old bug, it is still present, and one reason I use xdm/xfce4
with a larger LDAP based installation.

Stefan

PS: The other reason being lightdm tries to load $HOME/.face{,.icon} for all
found users which, in a autofs $HOME setup, leads to all user homes being
mounted.

Did mounting devpts on /dev/pts fix the problem?

I can reproduce the problem inside a chroot without /dev/pts mounted.
Once I mount /dev/pts the error is gone.

I'd say lets go with the patch.

Just tried a backported version of revelation/testing and the same
problem exists.

So this is most likely a bug in one of revelations dependencies, that
got fixed in squeeze due to an updated of that/those dependencies.

IMHO finding that exact package is pretty much impossible.

I can confirm that the username/password chain is only working when
using the middle mouse button and not right click/paste.

However I can _not_ confirm that changing the show password and other

works.

Have you been using the same Window Manager/Desktop Environment when

Bug#552321: Patch works only partly

2009-12-10 Thread Stefan Völkel
Hi,

after playing around with this, it looks like this will only work as
long as the screen session has not been detached.

Before detaching the screen session it looks like this in ps fax:

 2580 ?Ss 0:00 /usr/sbin/sshd
 3568 ?Ss 0:00 \_ sshd: bd [priv]
 3570 ?S 0:03 \_ sshd: b...@pts/0
 3571 pts/0Ss 0:00 \_ -bash
 4982 pts/0S+ 0:00 \_ screen -U -S work ...
 4983 ?Ss 0:00 \_ SCREEN -U -S work ...
 4984 pts/1Ss+0:00 \_ ssh ***
 4985 pts/2Ss+0:00 \_ ssh ***
 4986 pts/3Ss 0:00 \_ bash
 5025 pts/3R+ 0:00 \_ ps fax
 5026 pts/3S+ 0:00 \_ less

After a detach/attach it looks like this:

 2580 ?Ss 0:00 /usr/sbin/sshd
 3568 ?Ss 0:00 \_ sshd: bd [priv]
 3570 ?S 0:03 \_ sshd: b...@pts/0
 3571 pts/0Ss 0:00 \_ -bash
 5031 pts/0S+ 0:00 \_ screen -Udr work
 ...
 4983 ?Ss 0:00 SCREEN -U -S work ...
 4984 pts/1Ss+0:00 \_ ssh ***
 4985 pts/2Ss+0:00 \_ ssh ***
 4986 pts/3Ss 0:00 \_ bash
 5033 pts/3R+ 0:00 \_ ps fax
 5034 pts/3S+ 0:00 \_ less

Now if you run molly-guard from bash (PID 4986) it will walk up the
process hierarchy and _NOT_ encounter ssh, since SCREENs parent is now init.

I changed the patch to walk up the process hierarchy and molly-guard the
machine if screen or sshd is found.

regards

Stefan

OTOH I don't understand the need for the pgrep-voodoo anyway, why not simply

 Because sudo resets the environment.

Bug#467432: Another Patch

2009-06-10 Thread Stefan Völkel
Hi,

I have written another patch for this problem.

This one changes the behavior of mutt:

- no longer send bcc header to MTA
- save bcc header if write_bcc is true

The patch should apply to an unpacked 1.5.19-4 package.

regards

Stefan

Package: evolution

When adding a CalDAV calender with a user containing an @ sign in its

Bug#456424: revelation: remove gnome-icon-theme from depends

2007-12-17 Thread Stefan Völkel
 Hi,

Hi,

please change gnome-icon-theme from depends to suggested. all needed
icons are in the package itself.

After a quick glance it loooks to me that revelation comes only with
these icons:

$ for d in $(dpkg -L revelation | grep icons); do [ -f $d ]  echo $d; done
/usr/share/icons/hicolor/32x32/apps/revelation-locked.png
/usr/share/icons/hicolor/32x32/apps/revelation.png
/usr/share/icons/hicolor/48x48/mimetypes/gnome-mime-application-x-revelation.png
/usr/share/icons/hicolor/48x48/apps/revelation-locked.png
/usr/share/icons/hicolor/48x48/apps/revelation.png
/usr/share/icons/hicolor/16x16/apps/revelation.png
/usr/share/icons/hicolor/24x24/apps/revelation-locked.png
/usr/share/icons/hicolor/24x24/apps/revelation.png

Those do not include icons like folders, credit cards, globes for
weblinks etc.

Stefan Hi John,
When I log out with revelation locked an error box pops up with
something like Unknown Error but disappears before I can get
 any useful information from it.

Stefan So far I could not reproduce this problem. Please run
Stefan revelation from a console and redirect it's output to a
Stefan file, eg (for bash):

Stefan $ revelation /tmp/revelation.log

,[ cat /tmp/revelation.log ]
/usr/bin/revelation:653: DeprecationWarning: the 'argc' parameter is
optional and deprecated
  self.sessionclient.set_restart_command(1, [ sys.argv[0] ])
Traceback (most recent call last):

self.sessionclient.connect(die, lambda w: self.quit())
File /usr/bin/revelation, line 1548, in quit
gtk.main_quit()
RuntimeError: called outside of a mainloop
`

This does not happen when revelation is unlocked.

Stefan Is the Quit button in the unlock dialog greyed out or
Stefan selectable?

Both buttons are selectable but the pop-up disappears before I can get
to it.

thanks to bernie's intensive troubleshooting he discovered the problem
wrt irssi.

So, unless you expect that dtach should also fake the TERM environment

Do you think this is correct? If yes I'll mark the bug upstream and wait

Hi, yes I can do that. Could you provide instructions how to retrieve the
CVS version please? I assume it will include an up to date CHANGES file?

dtach is hosted at sf

where you can find instructions on how to access cvs.

It seems dtach -n attempts to determine the current terminal settings.

I think -n option should be able to fake the terminal settings. It is
arguable that the current terminal is not relevant for the -n option.

To demonstrate the problem:

~$ dtach -n ~/.dtach/shell bash /dev/null
dtach: tcgetattr: Inappropriate ioctl for device

A more real world example:

~$ crontab -l | grep dtach
@reboot dtach -n ~/.dtach/irssi irssi 21  ~/.dtach/irssi.cron
~$ cat ~/.dtach/irssi.cron
dtach: tcgetattr: Invalid argument

The above example shows where a user has set in their crontab a line
to run after boot to create an irssi instance. Unfortunately this
does not work due to the same error.

I've been using dtach in preference to screen for a while now, and
this is the first real problem I have... Any ideas for a workaround
please?

Cheers,
-bernie.

It would be quiet useful if a non-x11 viewer would exist

Bug#435289: wordpress: wp-config.php breaks when accessed with port

2007-07-30 Thread Stefan Völkel
Package: wordpress
Version: 2.2.1-1
Severity: normal
Tags: patch

When accessing wordpress via

http://host:80/

the debianized version of wp-config.php breaks because it is trying to
find a file called

config-host:80.php

Since RFC2616 allows ports inside the Host: header (Section 14.23):

Host = Host : host [ : port ] ; Section 3.2.2

I changed my wp-config.php to this:

?php

$server = preg_replace('/:.*/', , $_SERVER['HTTP_HOST']);
$file = '/etc/wordpress/config-'.strtolower($server).'.php';

if (!file_exists($file)) {
header(HTTP/1.0 404 Not Found);
echo 404 Not found
}

require_once($file);

define('ABSPATH', '/usr/share/wordpress/');

require_once(ABSPATH.'wp-settings.php');
?

Two changes here:

a) strip of the :port part from HTTP_POST
b) return 404 in case of error

The old version would return a 200 which does hide the problem and lead
to me looking for an error where non was (precicesly the snoopy http
client :).

Be advised that the current sytem used to report this bug is stable with
a wordpress package from unstable. I can reproduce the problem on
unstable though.

Bug#408108: Better version

2007-02-26 Thread Stefan Völkel
Another color was not possible, since ungrouping parts of the image
 crashes inkscape.

Additionally there is sadly no way I can edit the logo. Ungrouping it
will result in missing items, missing alpha information, etc (no crash
 though) ;)

Can you update the rest of the artwork as well? Thanks for doing
 this.

I'd be happy to help, but (at least for me) Inkscape is crashing /
hiding things / deleting things / etc when working with the logo.

If anybody can suggest another application for editing .svg files I'd
change the logo also.

I'm not sure I want to include functionality for this, as it seems like
a somewhat special case. But there are actually already two ways to
 accomplish this:

I don't think that this is a special case. If you think of revelation as
a personal password manager then yes it is nothing you would do on a
daily basis.

If you think of a group of operators working on a set of machines this
might be interesting. I can also think of non IT situations where people
might want to share account data (happens more often than one might think).

Not Sure how to implement this though (database backend, export filter,
...) but this might be something that could make revelation valuable for
another usergroup.

2007-02-14 Thread Stefan Völkel
Mmm for iceape, I managed to change most of the colors by editing
the gradients, which didn't require ungrouping. The rest could also be
 changed without ungrouping...

There is only one group in iceweasel logo. The Iceape logo contains at
least two (one for the ape one for the globe).

Additionaly I am getting really weird effects when changing the gradient
for the whole iceweasel thing (disapearing objects, randomly changing
gradients and a crash).

Hi,

revelation supports exporting password directory to various formats. But
it does not allow exporting single / selected entries only. Here for me
and my company colleagues anyway this would be a very needed
functionality, cause we often have to exchange password data for import
into each others revelation directory.

Best Regards

Patrick

Bug#409153: Add functionality which allows single entries to be exported

2007-02-01 Thread Stefan Völkel
Hi,

you can export revelation data to an xml file:

?xml version=1.0 encoding=utf-8 ?
revelationdata version=0.4.7 dataversion=1

entry type=shell
namefoo/name
description/description
updated1170341697/updated
field id=generic-hostnamefoo/field
field id=generic-domaincom/field
field id=generic-usernamebar/field
field id=generic-passwordnfebDm2B/field
/entry
/revelationdata

Now you could create an XSLT file filtering by name, creating a new XML
file which you could import using revelation.

Its manual, but might be a workaround. Not sure how much work this will
create or save though.

regards
Stefan

please do explain this maybe-workaround. Cause i cannot see how XSLT can
be a workaround to not having the functionality to export a single entry
instead of the whole directory. A workaround is to export it to XML and
edit it. But thats not practibable if you do have about several hundreds
 of accounts in your directory.

Bug#408108: iceweasel: Use different color for icon

2007-01-23 Thread Stefan Völkel
Package: iceweasel
Version: 2.0.0.1+dfsg-2
Severity: wishlist

*** Please type your report below this line ***
Iceweasel and Icedove both use a green icon which makes it hard to
discern between those two while alt-tab'ing or looking at the taskbar.

Attached is a blue Iceweasel icon based on the one found in the debian
package.

Please be advised that this is a quick hack and might not be good enough
for distribution, but an example image says more than 1000 words :).

Bug#384970: revelation: Non-installable on Etch (Testing)

Hi,

I am not sure I understand the situation. qa.d.o reports:

Now IMHO this is perfectly ok, since the dependencies are not met and
the package is not present in testing atm.

I made a dpatch to add deflate-filter support to privoxy. Patch is taken
 from

 http://sourceforge.net/tracker/?group_id=8atid=38func=detailaid=895531

Two small changes were made by me, I added JB_ERR_GENERIC to project.h
and commented out old_buf in filters.c

I don't know, whether it was a good idea to comment out the old_buf
line, I think renaming it to old is what the author intended. In
addition to this block in filters.c was placed on a different position
 than in the original patch.

I changed these (and renamed JB_ERR_GENERIC to JB_ERR_COMPRESS which
may make more sense) and now the patched version seems to run without
 problems on my system.

I'll test your altered patch, give me a week.

Bug#368448: privoxy: [PATCH] gzip compression

2006-07-31 Thread Stefan Völkel
Hello,

As of today I am running the patched version without any problems so far.

[...]

I'm not sure, whether the HTML code is written to the log, nor why
this stops after the ch, nor why privoxy dies after this, but I
cannot imagine, that this patch works without problems on your
 system...

[...]

Okay, I now see in the code, that the debug output is always cut after
100 chars, so this isn't so amazing. But why does privoxy die or at
least stop answer requests (sometimes it keeps the TCP port up, but
 doesn't answer)?

let me check if am still running this patch, might be that I lost this
one due to a partial reinstallation.

As of today I am running the patched version without any problems so far.

I'm just testing this code, but it doesn't seem to be very stable to
me. As far as I can see, every time the patch tries to decompresses
something, it writes parts of the uncompressed header to the logfile
 and after this privoxy dies:

I'm not sure, whether the HTML code is written to the log, nor why
this stops after the ch, nor why privoxy dies after this, but I
cannot imagine, that this patch works without problems on your
 system...

Here is another log entry with the same problem:

 Jul 30 03:05:28 Privoxy(41802960) Request: mycroft.mozdev.org/

Okay, I now see in the code, that the debug output is always cut after
100 chars, so this isn't so amazing. But why does privoxy die or at
least stop answer requests (sometimes it keeps the TCP port up, but
 doesn't answer)?

Hello,

yes thats wrong. Misunderstanding of the menu-policy on my side. A new
upload is being prepared to switch to python2.4 and the new python
policy, I'll include the fix there.

Bug#367867: initscripts: need versioned dep on powermgmt-base for on_ac_power

2006-07-24 Thread Stefan Völkel
Petter Reinholdtsen wrote:

 what is not working.

I suspect you have not understood it.

My laptop was running on battery and has only one partition,
notheless an fsck was performed, because on_ac_power was no longer
found (PATH did not include /sbin/ IIRC).

Your described behaviour is exactly how the boot is supposed to behave
when on_ac_power is unavailable. It is how the boot was behaving
before support for on_ac_power was added. The new behaviour where the
fsck is skipped when running on battery is an optional feature only
 available when on_ac_power is present.

on_ac_power was located under /bin later it was moved to /sbin.

while located under /bin the initscripts could find on_ac_power because
$PATH contains /bin. since it does not contain /sbin on_ac_power will
never be found, even if present on the system, e.g /sbin already mountd
or just one big partition.

So this is not a bug in the initscripts. If you want to make this
optional feature work on all installations, you need to convince the
maintainer of the package with on_ac_power to move it from /usr/ to /.
I personally believe that is a good idea, but have no strong opinion. :)

let's step back from the technical view. I'll try to explain what I'd
like to see from a laptop user point of view.

I like the fsck to be skipped when not on ac power. If the needed binary
is not available, well then it's not available, nothing we can do about
that, so perform the check. Perhaps output a nice message like,
on_ac_power not found performing fsck.

Again this is just my laptop user point of view, but right now I can not
think of a situation where /sbin would not be available when the
initscripts are running.

Right now on_ac_power resides below /sbin. Would it be possible to either:

a) check for on_ac_power with a full path
b) include /sbin into $PATH for the initscripts
c) include /sbin into $PATH just for the $(which on_ac_power)
   test?

on_ac_power is in /usr/bin, where it is useless for the initscripts.
We need access to it early in the boot sequence.

Actually, the calls to on_ac_power in checkfs.sh and checkroot.sh were
written explicitly to work as before when on_ac_power are unavailable,
and only skip fsck if the binary is found and report that the laptop
is on battery, to handle gracefully all installations where /usr/ is
 unavailable.

Not sure if I understood that correctly, but IMHO that is exaclty what

regular sponsor is unavailable at the moment.

I tried to find a sponsor through mentors et. al., sadly without luck.

If you do know someone willing to sponsor this _please_ let me know.

Bug#368448: privoxy: [PATCH] gzip compression

2006-05-22 Thread Stefan Völkel
Package: privoxy
Version: 3.0.3-2-1
Severity: wishlist

*** Please type your report below this line ***
I made a dpatch to add deflate-filter support to privoxy. Patch is taken
from

http://sourceforge.net/tracker/?group_id=8atid=38func=detailaid=895531

Two small changes were made by me, I added JB_ERR_GENERIC to project.h
and commented out old_buf in filters.c

You need to add

--enable-zlib

to debian/rules.

As of today I am running the patched version without any problems so far.

Does this error depend the search criteria that you use?

No it hangs on any search criteria. Be advised that I can search in
subfolders though, just not my Inbox.

Searching with evolution or pine works, thus I don't think its an IMAP
Server Problem.

What is the exact behaviour of thunderbird when this problem occurs?

It eats 99% CPU and is not responding. No Crash.

Be advised, this was build against unstable, thus you might have to

Bug#350741: revelation: hangs on missing nfs mounts

2006-01-31 Thread Stefan Völkel
Package: revelation
Version: 0.4.6-1
Severity: normal

revelation stat()'s all known filesystems on file open and thus hangs on
dangling nfs mounts.

1) mount an nfs share
2) unplug cable
3) start revelation
4) open file
5) enter password
- hangs

regards
stefan
