Bug#677880: iwlwifi: flakey and slow connection, high invalid misc count
Hi. Done. http://bugzilla.intellinuxwireless.org/show_bug.cgi?id=2370 The problem is that I think it fails too using WEP encryption. In the dmesg attached you can read: [35089.612272] BUG: Bad rss-counter state mm:880133a4db80 idx:1 val:-2 [35089.612283] BUG: Bad rss-counter state mm:880133a4db80 idx:2 val:2 Thanks for your time Victor. Since it was an n issue I am now using the second one just for wifi (the first one hangs and has some other problems when I enable its wifi support, although only with linux). The wifi problem I reported has dissapear (it occurs once a week or so) after I upgraded the Lenovo W500 to 3.3.4-1~experimental.1 and decided to install compat-wireless-3.4-rc3-1.tar.bz2 from http://linuxwireless.org/en/users/Download/stable/#compat-wireless_3.4_stable_releases At first it was an small improvement (it disconnected 2~3 times each hour) but then I played with options and with options iwlagn ack_check=1 fw_restart=1 11n_disable=1 bt_coex_active=0 options iwlwifi ack_check=1 fw_restart=1 11n_disable=1 bt_coex_active=0 options cfg80211 ieee80211_regdom=EU it now disconnects once or twice a week. I think Olivier found the same solution for his problem in http://bugs.debian.org/cgi-bin/bugreport.cgi?bug=668547#40 The strange thing is that I've made the options change only in the Lenovo machine, the other machines disconnect once or twice too without any change. I should have tested more, but since it works and I do not know which is the problem I decided to stop making changes. Just let me know if you want me to test something else. If not I think bug should be closed. Bug#582381: linux-image-2.6.32-bpo.3-amd64: No probe response from AP XX:XX:XX:XX:XX:XX after 500ms, disconnecting. - iwl3945
Hi Jonathan, first of all, thanks for answering my email ;-) I found it was caused by my router, smc-7908/arcadyan ARV7518PW-A-LF-LT. It seems to be that when signal is not good enough its implementation only allows clients running windows os to connect. I have a cordless phone base and when I place it near the router no machine running linux is capable of connecting, although some times they connect for 2-3 minutes and disconnect showing the same error. I've two laptops (with dual boot, windows and linux) and a computer with a pci card (running linux). When running windows it takes them a little bit longer to connect, but once connected wireless works perfectly. I fixed it just by removing the cordless phone, but maybe I can help to find the problem. I answer your questions below. One more thing: iwconfig power off this is a fix only for driver rt2500pci when it fails to enter state 1 (-16): rt2500pci :02:0a.0: PCI INT A - GSI 22 (level, low) - IRQ 22 phy0: Selected rate control algorithm 'minstrel' Registered led device: rt2500pci-phy0::radio Registered led device: rt2500pci-phy0::quality phy0 - rt2500pci_set_device_state: Error - Device failed to enter state 1 (-16). I suspect the signal is weak. When I place my laptop below the router the signal is 100%, but the problem is still there. Does this always happen within a few minutes of connecting? Not always, some times it is not capable of connecting. Does the signal strength matter? I do not think so, but I'm not an expert ... ;-) If you have other wireless hardware to try, do they produce the same problem? Yes. I tested on rt2500pci, Intel(R) Ultimate N WiFi Link 5300 AGN, REV=0x24 (iwlagn) and zd1211rw 1-6:1.0: firmware version 4725 (zd1211rw 1-6:1.0: zd1211b chip 0ace:1215 v4810 high 00-1a-ff AL2230_RF pa0 g--NS) Do current kernels behave the same way? Yes. I now have linux-image-2.6.32-5-686 (2.6.32-35) both in a laptop and the computer, but I tested bpo kernels in both. In the other laptop I have linux-image-2.6.39-bpo.2-amd64 (2.6.39-3~bpo60+1) and linux-image-2.6.32-5-amd64 (2.6.32-35). Some times they connect for 2-3 minutes and some times they do not connect. Does downgrading the kernel to a version that worked before make it go away? I tried kernels in stable and forcing a downgrade of all packages from bpo to stable, but it didn't worked. If you think that this is caused just by the router (I think so), just close the bug. I do not know why windows os works, but sw inside this router is a piece of crap and my only hope is the openwrt guys succeed in running linux on it ... https://forum.openwrt.org/viewtopic.php?id=15934 Thanks. Maybe just a warning to the user telling him/her to check that no private information is sent without their permissions is enough. It still fails and I can not sent every email that makes it fail because of privacy, but sending the complete email is not a problem when the email has not private info. Bug#528362: linux-image-2.6.32-trunk-686: Bug still on 2.6.32-5
Package: linux-2.6 Version: 2.6.32-5 Followup-For: Bug #528362 It is strange that now it is capable of reconnect on eth0 but connection is alive only for some seconds. Then it looses connection and tries again. I was doing ping while this happened and it was like ping: 0.175 8181 9071 ... 12453 0.187 and again. I'll try to save the trace next time and report it at bugzilla. If it loses its ip address (dhclient asks for a new one) then no answer is obtained and I can not reconnect again. rmmod r8169 mii and modprobe r8169 have no success at all. Maybe the most strange thing is that network monitor (when this happened) showed that there was a lot of incoming packets but no outcoming packets. And the most awful thing is that it only happens while I am reading emails with thunderbird ... maybe I should change to another email client :-( Sorry for bothering u ... Bug#437176: update-motd should be in debian ...
IMHO, it is not only useful for showing dynamic logos, but info on updates available and/or system restart required msgs. Ubuntu has update-motd and is really useful to see system load, needed updates and necessity of restarting system just when you log into the machine. Bug#562162: dante-server should allow command-line configuration of external ip/device
Package: dante-server Version: 1.1.19.dfsg-3+b1 Severity: wishlist Dante is a really useful tool, but when using dhcp to get external ip address it exits with error. In http://blog.edseek.com/~jasonb/articles/dante_tunnel.shtml the author suggests a perl script to change the configuration file after dhcp is run and set the new ip/device on danted.conf file, but this is not the correct solution. If it were possible to set the external ip/external device from the command line we could just avoid stupid bug reports saying that danted does not work due to a non-exitent external device (the one specified in the default config file). In this way, danted can crash (as it does) when we disable the device it is using and we can load it again by using a dhcp exit hook. Thanks in advance, Victor. -- System Information: Debian Release: squeeze/sid APT prefers stable APT policy: (900, 'stable'), (800, 'stable'), (90, 'proposed-updates'), (80, 'testing'), (60, 'unstable'), (30, 'experimental') Architecture: i386 (i686) Kernel: Linux 2.6.30-bpo.2-686 (SMP w/2 CPU cores) Locale: LANG=en_US.UTF-8, LC_CTYPE=en_US.UTF-8 (charmap=UTF-8) Shell: /bin/sh linked to /bin/bash Versions of packages dante-server depends on: ii libc6 2.9-12 GNU C Library: Shared libraries ii libpam0g 1.0.1-9Pluggable Authentication Modules l ii libwrap0 7.6.q-18 Wietse Venema's TCP wrappers libra dante-server recommends no packages. dante-server suggests no packages. -- no debconf information -- To UNSUBSCRIBE, email to debian-bugs-dist-requ...@lists.debian.org with a subject of unsubscribe. Bug#528362: linux-image-2.6.30-bpo.2-686: Bug still on version 2.6.30.
Package: linux-image-2.6.30-bpo.2-686 Version: 2.6.30-8~bpo50+2 Followup-For: Bug #528362 Are you changing the MTU of the r8169 device (jumbo frames)? No. Do you have wake-on-LAN enabled? No. If you add 'pci=nomsi' to the kernel command line, does this make a difference? I added it (you can see the command line below). There is no difference, but I think that reading mails is not a high speed transmision ... :-( This bug is related to kerneloops submission http://www.kerneloops.org/submitresult.php?number=1028502 Thanks, Victor. -- Package-specific info: ** Version: Linux version 2.6.30-bpo.2-686 (Debian 2.6.30-8~bpo50+2) (no...@debian.org) (gcc version 4.3.2 (Debian 4.3.2-1.1) ) #1 SMP Fri Dec 11 18:12:58 UTC 2009 ** Command line: root=/dev/sda1 ro pci=nomsi nosplash noquiet ** Tainted: G W (512) ** Kernel log: [9.730021] yenta_cardbus :06:04.0: pcmcia: parent PCI bridge Memory window: 0x5000 - 0x53ff [9.796895] input: PS/2 Mouse as /devices/platform/i8042/serio4/input/input6 [9.812404] input: AlpsPS/2 ALPS GlidePoint as /devices/platform/i8042/serio4/input/input7 [ 10.228599] iwl3945: Intel(R) PRO/Wireless 3945ABG/BG Network Connection driver for Linux, 1.2.26ks [ 10.228693] iwl3945: Copyright(c) 2003-2009 Intel Corporation [ 10.228839] iwl3945 :04:00.0: PCI INT A - GSI 17 (level, low) - IRQ 17 [ 10.228925] iwl3945 :04:00.0: setting latency timer to 64 [ 10.282579] iwl3945 :04:00.0: Tunable channels: 13 802.11bg, 23 802.11a channels [ 10.282668] iwl3945 :04:00.0: Detected Intel Wireless WiFi Link 3945ABG [ 10.342259] pcmcia_socket pcmcia_socket0: cs: IO port probe 0x100-0x3af: clean.
