I see this on Vega (RX 56) as well as Navi10 (5700XT) , and I think
Polaris (RX 570) is affected too. So it's not only an issue with Navi 2X
. Is it worth opening a separate bug report for each card?

Bug#895937: database upgrade from schema 8 to 9 fails - workaround

I downloaded the Digikam 5.9 appimage from digikam.org, which fails to

Important, once conversion back to Mariadb is complete, and Digikam settings
have been switched back to external Mysql database, Digikam scanned all
content but displayed an empty view. I needed to close and relaunch before I
could see the images.

I can now use Digikam 5.9 from Debian Unstable with the newly converted
Mariadb external database, I did not notice any data loss, tags are intact
too..

So problem solved for me, the double database conversion workaround is time
expensive but works.

Hi,

According to upstream bugtracking system

   https://bugs.kde.org/show_bug.cgi?id=393855

this seems fixed in digikam 6.0. Since Debian sid already has 6.4.0, I expect
this problem to be fixed in Debian.

Can we close this bug report?

Thanks for your contribution to Debian.

Regards,

Hi, as far as I am concerned this bug can be closed. All new upgrades
proceeded without any problem regarding the database.
Currently using 6.4 from unstable with Mariadb (about 6
photos/videos in the main library, + tags and faces) and having no issues.

Thank you for your time and your hard work.

Bug#928641: tiger: /usr/lib/tiger/systems/Linux/ will need symlink for kernel version 5

2019-05-07 Thread tv.deb...@googlemail.com

Version: 1:3.2.4~rc1-1
Severity: wishlist

Dear Maintainer,

when linux-image is bumped to version 5+ Tiger will need a new symlink
in /usr/lib/tiger/systems/Linux/.

This is to prevent bug #785589 "tiger: "Don't have required command
DIFF" on Linux 4" to happen again for version 5 which I am running
locally. The patch attached to #785589 modified for linux 5 works.

Thanks.

Bug#899984: sddm: Password automatically shown in clear at every user login

2019-02-06 Thread tv.deb...@googlemail.com
Hi, I got very surprised by this feature too, if you are using the
"breeze" or "debian breeze" theme the little "eye" icon is hidden with
the default theme. Try clicking at the very end (right) of the password
field and you should be able to toggle password visibility.

Now I am trying to reproduce this very hard, but I am convinced that
some interaction with the keyboard (maybe a key-combo) also triggers the
password visibility toggle, because I never touch my trackball at this
point and was caught by this a few times before.

It happens regardless of the number of monitors connected for me, but
with multiple screens the user is sometimes forced to click in the
desired password field to make it active, thus increasing the risk of
hitting the hidden "eye" icon. Very bad during a presentation...

Cheers.

Too late. It went already to testing as inbetween the severity was set
to normal and now we have the broken package in testing.

It is fixed for vanilla kernel.org kernel as of 4.8.11, builds on Sid
without modification. External modules I could test build fine too
(including Nvidia via dkms).
Do not apply any previously suggested workarounds on top or the
resulting kernel will not boot.

Hi, thank you for your attention but since I am not the original
submitter of this bug and was under the impression that it was solved
(a workaround has been found) I didn't want to add more noise. I will
open a new bug if I switch back to systemd and still experience the issue.

My interfaces file is attached to my first message, together with dhcp
conf.
I am looking into the modules error, I do have quite a few ones in
modules.conf, historical heritage and probably unnecessary now, but not
the ones mentioned in the logs.
I will generate and attach a new boot log when I get a chance to run
this system with systemd again, maybe this week-end.
This system is LUKS over RAID1 (mdadm), no lvm. /boot, /root and /home
separate, plus other data and backup arrays that get mounted with a
combination of pam_mount, key-file and decrypt_derived . /root is
encrypted too, I get to install plymouth whenever I want to test systemd
to be able to see the various password prompts. This plymouth thing
should be a suggest for systemd with a comment about Luks encrypted
partitions, that's another story.

Regarding /usr/lib/systemd/scripts, I don't find it with apt-file
search, I don't know what package is supposed to create it. Do you have
this directory on your (Testing/Sid) systems, I don't have it on any !

Thank you again, you can disregard this reply if this is considered
irrelevant to the bug, I will open a new one when I can test this again.

Cheers.

Bug#754218: boot hangs forever on LSB job raise network interfaces

2014-12-01 Thread tv.deb...@googlemail.com

Dear all,

same happening here:

Debian Jessie/Unstable amd64 up-to-date.

systemd: Version : 215-7

shorewall installed and configured

NO nfs mount of any kind

NO network mount of any kind

NetworkManager NOT installed (/etc/network/interfaces used)

NO local custom init script

Additionally this machine as two wired network interfaces (configured)
and one wireless (not configured), when the hang occurs it sometimes
(rarely, twice in a dozen try, some left to hang for 30minutes) proceeds
to boot. When this happens the second interface eth1 (Intel Corporation
82541PI Gigabit Ethernet Controller (rev 05) ) is not appearing in
ifconfig. When this occurs I can not modprobe the driver (e1000)
manually, nor bring the interface by any mean ! I suspected a
hardware/bios initialization bug but the same interface works flawlessly
with sysvinit-core and systemd-shim, as with rescue system System Rescue CD.

/etc/network and /etc/dhcp attached.

Only workaround was to chroot from rescue system and switch back to
sysvinit manually.

I can reinstall systemd as init and make the system fail again (outside
of office hours ;-) ) if provided with direction as to how collect
additional information.

Thank you for your work and attention,

All the best.

Bug#757315: Patch available

2014-11-25 Thread tv.deb...@googlemail.com

Dear maintainers,

confirming that the patch indicated by Leonardo Montecchi [1] in
previous message #19 does work, tested on Debian Sid current with large
image collection across multiple sources and mysql database. Digikam
works as expected, two days of intensive use show no regression or
side-effect, settings now fully functional and meta-data operations work.

Would it be possible to bump severity to important (due to stricter
freeze in place) to get it in Jessie, or Jessie+1 at least ? Without the
patch opening Digikam amounts to a local DOS for users of an external
mysql database, usually those users are the ones with large images
collections and more intensive use of Digikam.

2014-09-17 Thread tv.deb...@googlemail.com

Package: converseen
Version: 0.8.3-1+b1
Severity: normal

Dear Maintainer,

Converseen is forcing the opening of a url [1] on user when started,
without any consent or action of the said user.
While I am all for supporting free opensource software authors and does
my share whenever possible, I think this behavior is not acceptable as
part of a Debian package.

This could also be regarded as a security risk as the webpage is
inviting user to click on random banners and links, and could be
redirected to armful content. It is also a problem when younger users
(kids) end up browsing a random site online when given permission to use
a local application.

Include a nag-screen on first launch if you must, a menu option to link
to author website, but not this crapware Windows-like home phoning

stuff.

Cheers.

Bug#761968: q4wine launches an URL upon first start without user consent

2014-09-17 Thread tv.deb...@googlemail.com

Package: q4wine
Version: 1.1-r2-1
Severity: normal

Dear Maintainer,

After first configuration Q4wine launches the default web browser and
opens an URL without user consent or action. This URL currently directs
to a political blog post which is completely out of place in Debian.
Furthermore this blog is in support of a military group involved in an
ongoing conflict. This kind of blogs have been known to be used as
targeted drive-by attacks vector in the past and could constitute a
security threat to unsuspecting Debian users, all the more for the
younger ones.

Please remedy to this behavior, the appearance of the about screen
with relevant links should suffice should the user feels the need to go
to the author's website or blog, hardcoded automatic URL loading are out
of place in a Debian package at the very least, a security risk at worst
IMHO

All the best.

Bug#757315: Digikam freezes when configuration window is opened and external mysql db is used.

2014-08-07 Thread tv.deb...@googlemail.com
Package: digikam
Version: 4:4.1.0-1
Severity: normal

Dear Maintainer,

Since update to 4.1.0-1 when used with an external mysql db Digikam
freezes totally on opening the setting window, irrespective of the
setting tab accessed.
CPU load is 100% on one core and never comes down (application left
opened for over 48 hours, collection is ±3 images).
Behavior is normal (albeit slow) when SQlite db is used.

Tried to recreate mysql database from scratch, purging digikam and
related packages, removing all configuration files, and
reinstalling but it leads to the same behavior.

Searching the Internet I found

https://bugs.kde.org/show_bug.cgi?id=337737

wich seems to be the same bug manifesting itself in OpenSuse, so maybe
it's upstream problem.

Workaround: manually populate database for collection (from previous
working db dump in my case), change Digikam configuration by using text
editor, and never open the setting window. Or stick with SQlite db.

I will try to get proper debug informations today.

Thank you for your time and work.

Could you please check whether your problem is by chance the one
reported as bug #670320?

It very much is, thank you for the pointer and sorry for the noise.

Also please paste non-localized output (unless the issue is
localization dependent). You should be able to get non-localized output
from a command, by prefixing the command with env LC_ALL=C as in:

  $ env LC_ALL=C sudo aptitude install one-package another-package

Yes, sorry, I know this but I was lazy since I had fixed it, I just
copied the old output rather than reproducing the bug with LC_ALL=C, shame
on me.

Thank you.

Bug#670320: ruby-locale: fails to get available locale

2012-04-25 Thread tv.deb...@googlemail.com

Hi,

seeing the same problem here. As a workaround I put a script to export
LANGUAGE= to it's correct value in ~/.kde/env/ as recommended in [1].
It works with kde terminal emulator like Konsole or Yakuake.

Hi, I get this same error calling aptitude with sudo, and more

So to really get out of this using sudo it's necessary to use dpkg
directly to remove apt-listbugs and associated ruby packages:

sudo dpkg -r apt-listbugs libgettext-ruby1.8 liblocale-ruby1.8 ruby-locale

Then aptitude and apt-get are usable again.

Bug#661253: nvidia-glx: NVIDIA 295.20 causes random and unexpected X termination and, hence logout

2012-03-24 Thread tv.deb...@googlemail.com
Same here with 295.33-1, system freeze after a mere 15mn. System load
very low, only Amarok running on a fresh KDE session. Second try same
result while screen-saver was running. Downgrading to 295.20-1 solves it.

Happens with both stock Sid kernel and local 3.3, both amd64.

Back to the drawing board NVidia...

Bug#661253: nvidia-glx: NVIDIA 295.20 causes random and unexpected X termination and hence logout

2012-03-01 Thread tv.deb...@googlemail.com
Hi there, seeing this too on Wheezy/SID amd64, sometimes it's just a
logout, sometimes it's total X freeze ending up progressively in total
machine freeze if let running (no input device working, no ssh access).
It happens with stock Debian kernel (Sid) or locally compiled vanilla
(3.2.8). Downgrading to 290.10 solves the issue on both Sid and Wheezy.
kernel and system logs doesn't show anything meaningful, Xorg.0.log
doesn't contain errors that stand out, and xsession-errors is mute too.
:-( .

I run KDE desktop with compositing, lockup happens randomly, when
session is active or on the screensaver.

Bug#643035: libgtk2: File type filter combo box messed up in file chooser dialog (gimp,, inkscape)

2011-09-26 Thread tv.deb...@googlemail.com
Package: libgtk2.0-0
Version: 2.24.6-1
Severity: normal
File: libgtk2

Dear Maintainer,

libgtk2.0-0 update from Unstable messes the file type filter combo box
in Gimp, Inkscape, LibreOffice, Iceweasel (most probably many others)
file picker dialog. The file type filter box is way too small,
displaying only 3-4 letters and dots, mouse hovering on the combo box
items doesn't display file type either.

Downgrading libgtk2.0-0 to wheezy version (2.24.4-3) solves the issue.

Steps to reproduce:

Install either Gimp or any of the aforementioned programs, libgtk2.0-0
version 2.24.6-1, in gimp use open file dialog, and look at the file
type filter combo box at the bottom right corner of the file picker window.

Tested on two Testing/Sid and one Sid systems, amd64.

Possibly related to #640544 ?

Bug#624232: grub-pc 1.99~rc1-13 fails to install, problem with /boot on raid1 suspected.

2011-04-26 Thread tv.deb...@googlemail.com
Package: grub-pc
Version: 1.99~rc1-13
Severity: important

*** Please type your report below this line ***

Hi, upon upgrade on a Wheezy/sid system grup-pc fails to install, postinst
script fails to run due to an unknown file-system error. The system is
left in an unbootable state. Only chroot from another system and then
Downgrading to 1.98+20100804-14 solve the problem.

Manually running install-grub gives error about device not existing
and unknown file-system.
grub-mkdevicemap completes without error.
grub-probe invariably fails with messages about /dev not being mounted
and device not existing, no matter what path is used for the target(s)
disk(s).
Checks show /dev mounted just fine.

System is raid1, /boot on separate raid1 with ext4, rest of the system
is luks on raid1.

Tried latest two grub-pc and grub-common packages from 1.99 serie (from
snapshot.debian.org) and they all failed to install properly, only
latest 1.98 works.

Thank you for your attention.

Hi, upon upgrade on a Wheezy/sid system grup-pc fails to install, postinst
script fails to run due to an unknown file-system error. The system is
left in an unbootable state. Only chroot from another system and then
Downgrading to 1.98+20100804-14 solve the problem.

Could you try latest upstream bzr or (unless you use 0.90 raid)
1.99~rc2. I think your problem is solved by mduuid patch.

Using upstream bzr code solves the problem indeed. I use 1.2 meta-data
on the raid, now grub-mkdevicemap works fine, so does grub-probe,
installation on both devices of the raid gives me no error and the
reboot was alright.
Hope this version will be pulled in Debian soon.

Thank you for your assistance.

Bug#602382: blender doesn't work with debian-multimedia

2010-11-05 Thread tv.deb...@googlemail.com
Thanks to the efforts of Mr Marillat from debian-multimedia[1] there is
now a fully working Blender build available to Debian d-m users, just
install blender from debian-multimedia repository (currently in
unstable, look for Christian Marillat in the maintainer field).

Many thanks to him.

Hi blender fans, using Debian Squeeze/Sid amd64 blender doesn't work for
video editing with debian-multimedia ffmpeg (libav) related packages
installed.
Tested on two systems, one customized (this one) and one fresh Debian
Squeeze install with d-m.
This is what it says running under gdb :

Blender quit

###Here ends not useful gdb output###

I know d-m isn't Debian proper, but given the multimedia nature of
Blender and the userbase of d-m this sucks anyway. Blender from
blender.org (both 2.49b and 2.55 beta) don't display this behavior, and
Blender package taken straight from Ubuntu Maverick repository works
like a charm too on the same systems (all other depencies from Debian
and d-m).

Hope this can be fixed in an audacity-like (used to be broken with d-m,
no longer is) fashion.

Thanks for your work.

What is this huge amount of crap ? Debian-multimedia, blender, blender
from Debian, the debian way to package ffmpeg ? I don't get it.

Bug#602382: blender doesn't work with debian-multimedia

2010-11-04 Thread tv.deb...@googlemail.com
Sorry to read that, it's not everyone's opinion, there are many great
applications and features that wouldn't be easily accessible to Debian
users without debian-multimedia.
This isn't the place for such a discussion but since you brought it,
every major distribution has it's companion multimedia/non-free
repository, medibuntu for ubuntu, rpm-fusion for fedora, packman for
opensuse, but it's only in Debian that I read such words. Sure it's
expected that any external repository can cause compatibility problems
from time to time, happens everywhere, but it's usually resolved quickly
and without all the cheap hatred talk.
All such compatibility problems I recall where resolved, and kindly
documented and explained by Mr Marillat from d-m when asked. Surely I
miss the historical background to understand the relation between d-m
and some Debian developer/maintainer, but it certainly doesn’t look good
from a user point of view. d-m repository is cited on every single
Debian wiki or community site/forum, and for good reasons if you ask me,
so you can continue to ignore it and give end users who doesn't
necessary read debian-devel archive since debian 1.0 the quit using
this crap talk, but it won't make d-m nor it's usefulness for users go
away.

This is Debian own official wiki, isn't it ?
http://wiki.debian.org/MultimediaCodecs

Care to elaborate and enlighten your users ?

Bug#533161: qgit eats up all available ram and swap, stalling the system.

2009-06-15 Thread tv.deb...@googlemail.com
Subject: qgit eats up all available ram and swap, stalling the system.
Package: qgit
Version: 2.2-1
Justification: breaks the whole system
Severity: critical

*** Please type your report below this line ***
I have etckeeper working with git. On launching qgit it stays put,
doesn't display the git tree, but starts eating
up all available memory. If not killed promptly it brings down the whole
system (4GB ram) in less than a minute.
On the same system I have a working KDE4 installation, and cola or
gitg work fine as git gui.
