I just don't get why xgnokii was splitted and merged back in 2004:

Hi there,
The xgnokii split has been on my TODO list for a while. Hasn't done it yet
'cause when I adopted the package maintainance[1] it was in a pretty rough
shape and I didn't have enough time to work it out. Now that I know about
your (Matthias') packages, I'll take a look at how you solved
