Bug#434735: offlineimap: Crash with IOError: [Errno 24] Too many open files

2007-07-26 Thread Jan Schumacher
Package: offlineimap
Version: 5.99.1
Severity: important

Hi John,

today offlineimap stopped working on my rather large IMAP account,
crashing with the following backtrace:

Thread 'Copy message 1138 from hypernews/hn-atlas-releaseKitProblem' terminated
with exception:

'/home/jschumac/OfflineIMAP/hypernews.hn-atlas-releaseKitProblem/tmp/1185443341_6.13927.silab31'

I am not sure if this is related to a recent upgrade, I use offlineimap
only occasionally. All in all I have some 10-20k emails in about 100
folders. Rerunning offlineimap does not help, it crashes at the exact
same email.

Severity important is correct, I hope, since it stopped working here
completely but might work for others with less volume.

Thanks for packaging offlineimap!

Cheers
Jan

Bug#434735: offlineimap: Crash with IOError: [Errno 24] Too many open files

2007-07-26 Thread Jan Schumacher
Hi John,

Can you check a few things for me:

 1) Run offlineimap -1. Right before it crasshes, ls -l /proc/pid/fd where
pid is OfflineIMAP's pid. Let's see what files it has open.

offlineimap does not crash any more, so I could only check on a successful
run. I attached the largest set of fd's I obtained.

 2) Verify via lsof or some other tool that your system isn't out of file
descriptors globally. A reboot could fix that as well.

How can I do that with lsof? It does not complain when just listing without
options. The machine has not been rebooted in the meantime.

This problem could occur either from a problem with OfflineIMAP or a more
 general global problem.

(Un)fortunately I can not reproduce the error anymore, so sorry for the noise.

Cheers
Jan

I haven't been able to reproduce this or to figure out if this is really a
problem with OfflineIMAP. On my own system, I don't see fd leakage in
OfflineIMAP.

Can you check a few things for me:
