I have used for a while to put in hibernation the laptop by terminal
 with these commands:

 # echo disk /sys/power/state

 and

 $ systemctl hibernate

without problem, but yesterday I used the applet on the panel and again
 the hibernation failed...
So I will investigate about this applet and now I suppose that's not a
 problem by systemD.

Can you simply run the above two commands (as root)

echo disk /sys/power/state
and
systemctl hibernate

and report back if that works?

 Dear Maintainer,

often the hibernation by systemD with swap-file (by dphys-swapfile package)
fails, so the Laptop continues to be turned on, but it's unusable, with the
 cpu
and the fans working at maximum with the risk to burn everything. When it
happens I have to power off the laptop forcing down the power button.

How do you suspend your laptop, which command do you use?

systemd basically simply runs
  echo mem /sys/power/state
for suspend to ram and
  echo disk /sys/power/state
for suspend to disk.

If the above two commands fail, it's more a kernel then a systemd issue.

I'm actually not sure it the kernel support suspend to disk with a swap
file.

 Hi Michael

I'm using XFCE4 as D.E. so when I put the laptop in hibernation I only
press the button hibernation on the panel applet.

I'm not using XFCE4, so I dunno what it does. You should probably ask
its maintainer.

I'm going to hibernate the laptop by the command you gave me so we can
discover if it is a problem of systemD or Kernel.

Yeah, that would be helpful.

I suppose it is by systemD because when I used systemvinit I have never
 had this problem.
