Dear Maintainer,
apt-cacher-ng for some reason wants to install 'ed', the classic UNIX line
editor. Any standard $EDITOR should be fine for the user and if the program
depends on ed in its programming; then why not use the standard unix

Hi,
that's an interesting guess but you figured it wrong. Ed (actually red)
is used to patch the index files following the pdiff mechanism.
That said, I was never really happy with the current solution. I
