Bug#886855: xfce4-session: verbose logging is always enabled
I've encountered the same problem being discussed: xfce4-session v4.12.1-6 (Debian buster) creates ~/.xfce4-session.verbose-log even though XFSM_VERBOSE variable is not set.
Bug#886855: xfce4-session: verbose logging is always enabled
To fin4478: the upstream commit is trivial to cherry-pick onto 4.12.1, if your goal is just to gain control over the logging you could try that (as I've done with good success). The error you got in attempting to package 4.13 is unrelated to this bug. I'm not sure what the point was of filing #891284: it looks like a candidate for merging with this bug.
Bug#886855: xfce4-session: verbose logging is always enabled
Package: xfce4-session Version: 4.12.1-5 Tags: fixed-upstream The Debian package of xfce4-session in stretch (and, apparently, in sid) is still affected by upstream bug #11698, for which a fix is available as upstream git commit 26f9ae8df629f02af0773df2ed82db6b85c5b556 . Basically, xfce4-session always logs verbosely, even if XFSM_VERBOSE is not set in the environment.
