+1 on this.  Just stepped into this problem when a PDF was suddenly
opened with, of all crazy options, libreoffice.

I ended up dumping the following into mime/packages/zathura:

  application/pdf; zathura %s; test=test -n "$DISPLAY" ; nametemplate=%s.pdf; 
priority=7
  application/x-pdf; zathura %s; test=test -n "$DISPLAY" ; nametemplate=%s.pdf; 
priority=7

I *think* you'd want to have priority 5 in the distribution here,
just as mupdf has.

Dear Maintainer,

it would be great if you added /usr/lib/mime/packages/zathura just
like /usr/lib/mime/packages/mupdf. That would allow to change the
order of entries for zathura in /etc/mailcap just by adding

zathura:application/pdf

to /etc/mailcap.order and calling update-mime afterwards.
