Bug#348478: exim4: /etc/mailname not included in local_domains

2006-01-19 Thread Igor Belyi
I do believe that besides update-exim4.conf.8 you also need to fix
exim4-config.templates which caused

me to make the same mistake of not including mailname by saying:

Template: exim4/dc_other_hostnames
Type: string
Default:
Description: Other destinations for which mail is accepted:
Please enter a list of domains for which this machine should consider
itself the final destination, apart from the local hostname (${fqdn})
and localhost.

Cheers,
Igor

Why? The template most definitely does _not_ list mailname as being
included by default. (It used to when this was case.)

The template claims that besides localhost the local hostname will
also be included into local domain list.
According to what update-exim4.conf does it's only 'localhost' and
dc_other_hostnames. Therefore either

update-exim4.conf or exim4-config.templates needs to be fixed.

I've added this message to the current bug since my /etc/mailname
contains my hostname and therefore I
considered this to be the same problem. Let me know if I need to open a
separate bug report for this issue.

Thanks,
Igor

It will be, explicitly, once.

No, in the current packages, everything is fine.

Well... It appeared to be my own mistake...

In my /etc/hosts I had localhost first and the machine name second. As a
result hostname --fqdn was returning
localhost instead of the name of the machine which in turn resulted in
'smarthost' router being used instead of

'local_user'.

I haven't completely figured out how the wrong router got used since
DC_visiblename is my machine name in
both cases but change of the name order in /etc/hosts so that hostname
--fqdn returns the right result does

fix the problem for me.

Thanks,
Igor

Which part of documentation is wrong?

update-exim4.conf(8):

  dc_other_hostnames

is used to build the local_domains hostlist, together with
localhost and the mailname. This is the list of domains for
which this machine should consider itself the final destination.

The manpage in question was corrected over six months ago. Unfortunately, it
did not make it in to the package which was shipped with Sarge. (Indeed, it
appears to have been the first change that was made to the package *after*
4.50-8 -
http://svn.debian.org/wsvn/pkg-exim4/exim/trunk/debian/manpages/?rev=1162sc=1).

I am using the split config. /etc/mailname says malcolm.id.au.
