Dear Maintainer,
Since the upgrade to the latest stable version, in combination with
enigmail and lightning; thunderbird has become so slow that it is
basically unusable.
Scrolling required 2s to move anything. Mails open very slowly, etc.

* What led up to the situation?
Upgrade of thunderbird from 45.8.0 to 52.2.1-4~deb9u1, as well as
enigmail and lightning to the latest stable version.
* What exactly did you do (or not do) that was effective (or
ineffective)?
I tried to find the cause for this issue by uninstalling some older
extensions and disabling all others.
After several restarts with each time enabling another extension I
discovered that lightning seems to be the issue here.
Disabling it, reverses any problems.
After having discovered this I tried to clean out any cache there was
in my profile, but to no effect.
Only disabling it fixed the problem.
