Bug#322671: libfwbuilder: rebuild needed for C++ ABI transition (NMU patch attached)
Package: libfwbuilder Version: 2.0.7-1 Severity: serious Tags: patch Hi Jeremy, Under the 0-day NMU policy for the C++ ABI transition, I have prepared an NMU for libfwbuilder, because this library provides C++ interfaces and must be rebuilt so that a number of other C++-based packages can transition to g++ 4.0. The diff for this NMU is attached; the NMU will be uploaded shortly. If you see any problems with the patch, let me know so I can have the package rejected out of NEW. Bug#322684: nip2 unuseable because of optimization bug in led.c
Package: nip2 Version: 7.10.10-2 Severity: grave Justification: renders package unusable Dear Jay, the current package crashes whenever an image or workspace is loaded. I downloaded the current CVS version of vips and nip2 (nip2-7.11.1) and verified the problem there (gcc 4.0.2 20050806); it occurs in led.c:107, within gdk_pixmap_create_from_xpm_d (gdb says in strlen there). I first skipped led_realize completely and got a working nip2; then I found that compiling led.c with optimization -O (or none) instead of -O2 also yields a working nip2. Therefore, not gdk_pixmap_create_from_xpm_d appears at fault but it's obviously a gcc data initialization optimization bug. Bug#321052: NMU diff for several mpich bugs; please ack or nack
Okay, lessons learned etc., here's a sugggestion: Since it's been less than 24 hours since the NMU was accepted, I propose that if I can get the new 1.2.7 package done by 8 PM EDT tonight (midnight GMT), that I just use the same package names in 1.2.5.3-6.1. This should not cause too much trouble, since the NMU will have been the official unstable release for only 36 hours. Also, the addition of F90 into the official libmpich(-mpd)1.0c2 should not be an issue, and removal of slog will only cause problems if significant numbers of people build with MPE against 1.2.5.3-6.1, which I don't suspect will be the case. Adeodato, it would help me if you could forward information on which developers contacted you requiring mpich to move forward for their packages; I can in turn contact them and ask them to hold off on uploads until testing their builds with 1.2.7. How does this sound? If I can't get it done by tonight, I'll find a use library package name to reflect the change. -Adam -- GPG fingerprint: D54D 1AEE B11C CE9B A02B C5DD 526F 01E8 564E E4B6 Welcome to the best software in the world today cafe! http://www.take6.com/albums/greatesthits.html -- To UNSUBSCRIBE, email to [EMAIL PROTECTED] with a subject of unsubscribe. Bug#322467: Please Help (was: Bug#322467: [CAN-2005-2097] Loca Table Verification Remote Denial of Service Vulnerability)
Hello Thomas, hello Debian Security team, Frank Küster [EMAIL PROTECTED] wrote: tetex-bin_3.0 in experimental is vulnerable. This is about CAN-2005-2097, see http://www.securityfocus.com/bid/14529/info. The provided patch (see http://bugs.debian.org/cgi-bin/bugreport.cgi?bug=322467) is said to be against xpdf-3.00, and indeed it applies cleanly against the Debian xpdf source package; however the xpdf sources in teTeX are different. This is why I'm contacting you, Thomas: Although according to the CHANGES file we should have xpdf-3.00 just as the xpdf package has, but at least one file (which should be patched) is missing in the teTeX sources. Now I'm wondering which changes you have made to the upstream sources, and whether they were on purpose; and whether this makes teTeX non-vulnerable, or requires a different patch to fix the vulnerability. xpdf/xpdf/SplashOutputDev.cc is the file that does not exist. I tried to find code fragments that match the parts the patch removes, or the lines before and after, but they don't occur in the sources in tetex-bin. TIA, Frank -- Frank Küster Inst. f. No, I can't, since when prerm is invoked .md5sums entries are still in /var/lib/ocaml/md5sums/. Still this is not a problem, invoking it on postrm only if ocaml-md5sums is available is fine since as long as it is not available .md5sums entries are useless. As soon as it will get re-installed the registry will be updated again. Bug#321785: fakeroot: segfaults on [hppa]
The buildd in question is currently running a 2.4.26-64 kernel. Cool (I didn't thought that there was still systems running 2.4) In fact while simply rebuilding a kernel (as root, without fakeroot), I also observe a segfault with 2.6.8 and 2.6.10 (on c110 and d380) but panicing 2.6.12 (on the same c110 and d380) as well as 2.6.13-rc6 on d380 and b2k. Fwiw with kernel 2.6.11.12, the rebuild runs fine on this same d380 and b2k. Well, there have certainly been various and sundry known kernel issues on hppa, but this seems wholly unrelated to them. That's confusing me: is there actualy a pb in libc or do we need some constraint to install this new libc? glibc seems to be the one thing that's changed; running make manually with a copy of glibc 2.3.2 in the chroot works just fine. Hi Matt, Thank you for the report! This will be fixed in the next upload. Bug#322467: Please Help (was: Bug#322467: [CAN-2005-2097] Loca Table Verification Remote Denial of Service Vulnerability)
This is why I'm contacting you, Thomas: Although according to the CHANGES file we should have xpdf-3.00 just as the xpdf package has, but at least one file (which should be patched) is missing in the teTeX sources. The following changes are done to the original sources: - xpdf/GlobalParams.cc: add GlobalParams::GlobalParams() which is basically a stripped down GlobalParams::GlobalParams(char *cfgFileName) - remove all files which are not needed for pdftex, e.g. those for the stand-alone xpdf viewer - portability / security fixes Those from the last group are always forwarded upstream, of course. Now I'm wondering which changes you have made to the upstream sources, and whether they were on purpose; and whether this makes teTeX non-vulnerable, or requires a different patch to fix the vulnerability. For the reasons given above, I think that teTeX is only affected by a subset of all xpdf vulnerabilities. Thomas -- To UNSUBSCRIBE, email to [EMAIL PROTECTED] with a subject of unsubscribe. Trouble? any update on the matter? had you another crash? is your hadware stable, any particular problems? i must confess to have seen a similar crash on one of our university machines. it was running 2.4.25 and this bug happened once. machine shouldn't have been under mem pressure, but had a quite long uptime. i guess it's a feature of the 2.4 vm. -- maks -- To UNSUBSCRIBE, email to [EMAIL PROTECTED] with a subject of unsubscribe. Bug#322723: dhcp-client-udeb: 'id route add' fails w/ Network is unreachable
Package: dhcp-client-udeb Version: 2.0pl5-19.1 Severity: serious Tags: d-i Installations for 1386 using current daily builds (using 2.6.12) are failing with a screen saying no default route could be set. The cause for this is that in /etc/dhclient the 'ip route add' command is failing. It returns ip: RTNETLINK answers: Network is unreachable. This problem has been seen both on real hardware (like my laptop) and both qemu and vmware. I'm able to reproduce it consistently. I've never seen the problem during installations using images based on 2.6.8 or 2.6.11. It happens both when using DHCP and for static net configuration. I've been trying to trace the problem using several different daily netinst images (using 2.6.12) and the official Sarge netinst (using 2.6.8) for comparison and using different network devices/modules. The error happens both when dhclient is run from netcfg and when it's run from VT2 in busybox. A log with set -x in /etc/dhclient-script is attached. I've also run an strace on the 'ip route add' command. Attached are an strace for the failed command and one for a successful command from a 2.6.8 install. Currently I'm unsure whether this is a kernel problem, a d-i problem, a busybox problem and/or related to other changes in unstable (like gcc transition). I've reached the end of my skills, somebody else needs to take over from here. I'm submitting this bug against dhcp-client-udeb because that's where it manifests itself, but feel free to add info and reassign. Bug#318055: python-crypto: build errors in NMU upload
Hi, I noticed two build failures of my NMU -2.1 upload. I prepared a -2.2 package that fixes those remaining issues. I try to upload that this evening (meaning german time :). Here is the changelog: python-crypto (2.0+dp1-2.2) unstable; urgency=low * NMU to fix build failures on some architectures * Remove -O3 gcc option on m68k architecture to fix FTBFS due to an internal compiler error * Standards version 3.6.2 (no changes required) * Relax the versioned build dependency of libgmp3-dev to 4.1.4-8 instead of -9. Bug#322467: Please Help (was: Bug#322467: [CAN-2005-2097] Loca Table Verification Remote Denial of Service Vulnerability)
On 2005-08-12 13:36:32 +0200, Thomas Esser wrote: Now I'm wondering which changes you have made to the upstream sources, and whether they were on purpose; and whether this makes teTeX non-vulnerable, or requires a different patch to fix the vulnerability. For the reasons given above, I think that teTeX is only affected by a subset of all xpdf vulnerabilities. We already have xpdf 3.00pl3, so everything till then should be fixed. We checked sometime before CAN2005-2097 for effects of the known vulnerabilities on pdfTeX and found none. I don't know about 2005-2097, but the worst would be a crash of pdfTeX. Is a patch around? Bug#322684: nip2 unuseable because of optimization bug in led.c
Bernd Feige [EMAIL PROTECTED] wrote: the current package crashes whenever an image or workspace is loaded. Thanks for providing all these details in your report. I'll try to resolve this as quickly as possible. Have you reported any bugs against gcc on this? Either way, I'll look into it and, at the very least, attempt to implement the workaround you've suggested of compiling led.c with -O or, if needed, compiling the whole package with -O. I should find time to get to this in the next few days. Thanks for the report. -- Jay Berkenbilt [EMAIL PROTECTED] -- To UNSUBSCRIBE, email to [EMAIL PROTECTED] with a subject of unsubscribe. Bug#322684: nip2 unuseable because of optimization bug in led.c
Dear Jay, Have you reported any bugs against gcc on this? No, I thought it should be first verified and upstream notified about the problem; maybe they know of any specialties in their code that may trigger it. Then, a smaller test case should probably be produced for the gcc maintainers... Regards, Bernd -- To UNSUBSCRIBE, email to [EMAIL PROTECTED] with a subject of unsubscribe. Trouble? The new glibc has more draconian heap checking and calls abort() when it detects corruption, which causes the post-inst script to die (due to set -e). Now that glibc 2.3.5 is in unstable this will start to hurt. Bug#322591: For NM-queue purposes, I created a NMU for this bug
Hi. As said, I created a NMU for this bug (not really uploaded into the archive though). The files of the NMU are available at http://mail.incase.de/NMUs/ I first created this NMU with my own patch, but given that it is cleaner than mine, I converted it to use the patch given in this bugreport. regards, Sven signature.asc Description: OpenPGP digital signature

Package: lvm2 Followup-For: Bug #315339 Nice to see the initial bug (of 2.01.12-1) being addressed so quickly. However, using 2.01.12-2 gives me similar problems, while using lvm2 metadata. It also is no longer blocked by the C++ transition, as fltk1.1 is now available on all architectures with the g++4.0 ABI. Will, are you going to be able to upload a fix for this bug soon? I'm working with upstream on packaging a newer version. The last couple of beta releases have had build problems but hopefully there should be a good release in the near future. I hope to have it fixed this week. I'm not sure if there is an easy fix for the current version. -- To UNSUBSCRIBE, email to [EMAIL PROTECTED] with a subject of unsubscribe. Trouble? No, I can't, since when prerm is invoked .md5sums entries are still in /var/lib/ocaml/md5sums/. Still this is not a problem, invoking it on postrm only if ocaml-md5sums is available is fine since as long as it is not available .md5sums entries are useless. As soon as it will get re-installed the registry will be updated again. It is probably not there, but why if it was not there, and some random packages does a : cp stuff /var/lib/ocaml/md5sums It was there since the error reported was not a directory rather than no such file or directory:. But as Christian reported he probably created that file by hand. If the directory is missing qnd qnother pqckqges does the above, stuff will be copied as md5sum which will not be a directory. This will only happen when a package ith bad dependency is installed and installs a md5sum file though. Bug#322773: Links against libstc++.so.6 and old qt
Package: djview Severity: serious Hi, I just looked through the whole mess with djvulibre and noticed that it was only built on two official archs (i386, uploaded by the maintainer, and sparc). m68k fails due to a toolchain bug, hppa due to the broken fakeroot on the buildds and the other fail because they can't link in Xinerama - I have no idea why this was successful on the sparc buildd. Anyway, the sparc binaries are broken, as announced in the build log: /usr/bin/ld: warning: libstdc++.so.5, needed by /usr/lib/libqt-mt.so, may conflict with libstdc++.so.6 This means that the current version of djview is broken on sparc (and probably on i386, iff the maintainer used an up-to-date system to build). You'll need to wait at least another day until QT has finished it's own transition to the new C++ ABI. http://lists.debian.org/debian-devel-announce/2005/07/msg1.html contains what you need to know for now, please *read* debian-devel-announce in the future.
