Bug#322671: libfwbuilder: rebuild needed for C++ ABI transition (NMU patch attached)

2005-08-12 Thread Steve Langasek
Package: libfwbuilder
Version: 2.0.7-1
Severity: serious
Tags: patch

Hi Jeremy,

Under the 0-day NMU policy for the C++ ABI transition, I have prepared an
NMU for libfwbuilder, because this library provides C++ interfaces and
must be rebuilt so that a number of other C++-based packages can transition
to g++ 4.0. The diff for this NMU is attached; the NMU will be uploaded
shortly. If you see any problems with the patch, let me know so I can have
the package rejected out of NEW.

Thanks,

Sorry for this, but I won't fix this bug. libs11n 1.1 has been out
for a while, but it's a major pain to package. I have not had the
time for it yet.

When 1.1 is released, this bug can be closed, although I am not sure
how to handle the migration, since 1.1 is API and ABI incompatible.

I believe debian/libgdal1.files needs to be renamed to
 libgdal12c.files.

Also may need to be renamed on dh_makeshlibs and dh_shlibdeps lines
 in debian/rules.

You are right. My NMU to fix the C++ transition was incomplete. I'm

The remote DoS comes from the fact that snmpd will call this IOCTL when it
gets a request for the interface statistics.

So it's exploitable via SNMP if the exploiter has access to the SNMP tree
in question. (Which is not the default, if I recall correctly?)

However, this means that cricket will bone the machine during the boot
  process,
  or soon after.

I think thats a strong enough reason to tag it as a security fix,
and thus include it in a kernel security update.

Hi Horms,
this is now CAN-2005-2548. Can you please add it to the changelog?

Cheers,
Moritz

However, this means that cricket will bone the machine during the boot
   process,
   or soon after.

I think thats a strong enough reason to tag it as a security fix,
and thus include it in a kernel security update.

 Hi Horms,
this is now CAN-2005-2548. Can you please add it to the changelog?

Of course. Its in now.

Bug#322684: nip2 unuseable because of optimization bug in led.c

2005-08-12 Thread Bernd Feige
Package: nip2
Version: 7.10.10-2
Severity: grave
Justification: renders package unusable

Dear Jay,

the current package crashes whenever an image or workspace is loaded.
I downloaded the current CVS version of vips and nip2 (nip2-7.11.1)
and verified the problem there (gcc 4.0.2 20050806); it occurs in
led.c:107, within gdk_pixmap_create_from_xpm_d (gdb says in strlen there).
I first skipped led_realize completely and got a working nip2; then I
found that compiling led.c with optimization -O (or none) instead of -O2
also yields a working nip2. Therefore, not gdk_pixmap_create_from_xpm_d
appears at fault but it's obviously a gcc data initialization
optimization bug.

Best regards and thanks for your work,
Bernd

Bug#317542: aqsis: FTBFS: undefined reference to `Aqsis::CqPoolableAqsis::CqLath, 512l::m_thePool'

2005-08-12 Thread Steve Langasek
This issue is still present with the current version of g++ in unstable and
testing (I wouldn't have expected it to go away). It also is no longer
blocked by the C++ transition, as fltk1.1 is now available on all
architectures with the g++4.0 ABI. Will, are you going to be able to upload
a fix for this bug soon?

Thanks,

Bug#321052: NMU diff for several mpich bugs; please ack or nack

2005-08-12 Thread Adam C Powell IV
Okay, lessons learned etc., here's a sugggestion:

Since it's been less than 24 hours since the NMU was accepted, I propose
that if I can get the new 1.2.7 package done by 8 PM EDT tonight
(midnight GMT), that I just use the same package names in 1.2.5.3-6.1.

This should not cause too much trouble, since the NMU will have been the
official unstable release for only 36 hours. Also, the addition of F90
into the official libmpich(-mpd)1.0c2 should not be an issue, and
removal of slog will only cause problems if significant numbers of
people build with MPE against 1.2.5.3-6.1, which I don't suspect will be
the case.

Adeodato, it would help me if you could forward information on which
developers contacted you requiring mpich to move forward for their
packages; I can in turn contact them and ask them to hold off on uploads
until testing their builds with 1.2.7.

How does this sound? If I can't get it done by tonight, I'll find a use
library package name to reflect the change.

-Adam

Bug#322467: Please Help (was: Bug#322467: [CAN-2005-2097] Loca Table Verification Remote Denial of Service Vulnerability)

2005-08-12 Thread Frank Küster
Hello Thomas, hello Debian Security team,

Frank Küster [EMAIL PROTECTED] wrote:

 tetex-bin_3.0 in experimental is vulnerable.

This is about CAN-2005-2097, see
http://www.securityfocus.com/bid/14529/info. The provided patch (see
http://bugs.debian.org/cgi-bin/bugreport.cgi?bug=322467) is said to be
against xpdf-3.00, and indeed it applies cleanly against the Debian xpdf
source package; however the xpdf sources in teTeX are different.

This is why I'm contacting you, Thomas: Although according to the
CHANGES file we should have xpdf-3.00 just as the xpdf package has, but
at least one file (which should be patched) is missing in the teTeX
sources.

Now I'm wondering which changes you have made to the upstream sources,
and whether they were on purpose; and whether this makes teTeX
non-vulnerable, or requires a different patch to fix the vulnerability.

xpdf/xpdf/SplashOutputDev.cc is the file that does not exist. I tried
to find code fragments that match the parts the patch removes, or the
lines before and after, but they don't occur in the sources in
tetex-bin.

TIA, Frank

expecting it to be a dir, this would end in it being a file.

No, I can't, since when prerm is invoked .md5sums entries are still in
/var/lib/ocaml/md5sums/. Still this is not a problem, invoking it on
postrm only if ocaml-md5sums is available is fine since as long as it is
not available .md5sums entries are useless. As soon as it will get
re-installed the registry will be updated again.

It is probably not there, but why if it was not there, and some random
 packages does a :

   cp stuff /var/lib/ocaml/md5sums

It was there since the error reported was not a directory rather than
no such file or directory:. But as Christian reported he probably
created that file by hand.

All should be fixed now, I'm rebuilding the package right now.

Bug#321785: fakeroot: segfaults on [hppa]

2005-08-12 Thread Joel Soete

The buildd in question is currently running a 2.4.26-64 kernel.

Cool (I didn't thought that there was still systems running 2.4)

In fact while simply rebuilding a kernel (as root, without fakeroot), I also
observe a segfault with 2.6.8 and 2.6.10 (on c110 and d380) but panicing
2.6.12 (on the same c110 and d380) as well as 2.6.13-rc6 on d380 and b2k.

Fwiw with kernel 2.6.11.12, the rebuild runs fine on this same d380 and b2k.

Well, there have certainly been various and sundry known kernel issues on
hppa, but this seems wholly unrelated to them.

That's confusing me: is there actualy a pb in libc or do we need some
constraint to install this new libc?

glibc seems to be the one thing that's changed; running make manually with
a copy of glibc 2.3.2 in the chroot works just fine.

Thanks,
Joel

Bug#320995: dependency failure during audacity installation

2005-08-12 Thread Steve Langasek
Hi Matt,

Thank you for the report! This will be fixed in the next upload.

When are you planning that to be? wxwindows2.4 is fully transitioned now
(except for arm, which is arch-specific breakage you probably want to
ignore), so it would be great if these two bugs could get fixed. I'm happy
to do a quick NMU of audacity 1.2.3 if you prefer.

Cheers,

Cool (I didn't thought that there was still systems running 2.4)

Well, sarge also shipped as 2.6-only, for hppa; so if the answer is that
this problem happens to go away when upgrading to 2.6, that's probably
acceptable, since 2.4 kernels will have been unsupported on hppa for a full
stable release by the time etch comes out.

Bug#285371: exim4-daemon-heavy: gnutls-parms not recreated on startup, takes 20min after first tls conn

2005-08-12 Thread tom schorpp
Package: exim4-daemon-heavy
Version: 4.52-1
Followup-For: Bug #285371

was all fine with 4.51, problems are back with this version.
maybe my p2 machine is too slow or does not deliver enough valid random data.

1. send a message from mozilla with tls
2. connection establishes and hangs on for ~20min
3. params-file appears and message is processed
4. log shows tls-packet with unexpected length received error
5. tls traffic ok then until next restart of daemon and deletion of params file.

maybe params creation takes too long at tls-connection, better recreate at
startup
of daemon.
pls provide 4.51 + security patches again until this is fixed.

Bug#322467: Please Help (was: Bug#322467: [CAN-2005-2097] Loca Table Verification Remote Denial of Service Vulnerability)

2005-08-12 Thread Thomas Esser
This is why I'm contacting you, Thomas: Although according to the
CHANGES file we should have xpdf-3.00 just as the xpdf package has, but
at least one file (which should be patched) is missing in the teTeX
 sources.

The following changes are done to the original sources:
  - xpdf/GlobalParams.cc: add GlobalParams::GlobalParams() which is
basically a stripped down GlobalParams::GlobalParams(char *cfgFileName)
  - remove all files which are not needed for pdftex, e.g. those for
the stand-alone xpdf viewer
  - portability / security fixes

Those from the last group are always forwarded upstream, of course.

Now I'm wondering which changes you have made to the upstream sources,
and whether they were on purpose; and whether this makes teTeX
non-vulnerable, or requires a different patch to fix the vulnerability.

For the reasons given above, I think that teTeX is only affected by a
subset of all xpdf vulnerabilities.

Thomas

Bug#322352: [Powerdns-debian] Bug#322352: pdns and pdns-doc both contain /usr/share/doc-base/pdns (sarge security update version)

You are right, the bug exist in the current security release of sarge,
but I don't know how it comes there. I've build it twice by myself and I
couldn't find the bug.

How did you build the package ? (I'm pretty curious right now because I

Bug#322717: horde2: errors on login attempts: Only variable references should be returned by reference in...

2005-08-12 Thread Calum Mackay
Package: horde2
Version: 2.2.8-1
Severity: grave
Justification: renders package unusable

My users have begun to report that they're receiving fatal errors on
attempting to login, in particular to webmail/imp3. It's not clear
exactly when this started, unfortunately.

I'm logging the bug here, rather than in imp3, as it's horde2's files
that are being reported.

Is this perhaps to do with a more strict check being implemented in a
recent PHP upgrade?

Errors below. Please let me know if I can provide further information.

Bug#322706: /usr/bin/ghemical: Missing dependency on lapack3 and refblas3

Hmm, ghemical here has the following Depends:

nighthawk~/build$ dpkg -I ghemical_1.51-1_i386.deb |grep Depends
 Depends: atlas3-base | lapack3 | liblapack.so.3, atlas3-base | refblas3
| libblas.so.3

Did you have atlas3-base installed? Perhaps you need to add
/usr/lib/atlas/ to /etc/ld.so.conf, I am not uptodate with that atlas
stuff, maybe there is some documentation in /usr/share/doc/atlas3-base
about this. If this is the case, could you please test this by removing
lapack3 and refblas3 again and proceed as indicated by the atlas
packages?

thanks,

Michael

Bug#322722: ocaml-nox: missing dependency on gcc (and binutils?)

2005-08-12 Thread Julien Cristau
Package: ocaml-nox
Version: 3.08.3-3
Severity: serious
Justification: Policy 3.5

Hi,

ocamlc and ocamlopt need at least gcc and ld to work correctly (there
are also references to nm and objcopy), but the package doesn't declare
this dependency. This missing dependency has of course not been
detected because gcc is build-essential, but I think it should be
declared nevertheless.

Cheers,
Julien Cristau

been under mem pressure, but had a quite long uptime.
i guess it's a feature of the 2.4 vm.

Bug#322723: dhcp-client-udeb: 'id route add' fails w/ Network is unreachable

2005-08-12 Thread Frans Pop
Package: dhcp-client-udeb
Version: 2.0pl5-19.1
Severity: serious
Tags: d-i

Installations for 1386 using current daily builds (using 2.6.12) are
failing with a screen saying no default route could be set.
The cause for this is that in /etc/dhclient the 'ip route add' command is
failing. It returns ip: RTNETLINK answers: Network is unreachable.

This problem has been seen both on real hardware (like my laptop) and both
qemu and vmware. I'm able to reproduce it consistently. I've never seen
the problem during installations using images based on 2.6.8 or 2.6.11.
It happens both when using DHCP and for static net configuration.

I've been trying to trace the problem using several different daily
netinst images (using 2.6.12) and the official Sarge netinst (using
2.6.8) for comparison and using different network devices/modules.

The error happens both when dhclient is run from netcfg and when it's run
from VT2 in busybox. A log with set -x in /etc/dhclient-script is
attached.

I've also run an strace on the 'ip route add' command. Attached are an
strace for the failed command and one for a successful command from a
2.6.8 install.

Currently I'm unsure whether this is a kernel problem, a d-i problem, a
busybox problem and/or related to other changes in unstable (like gcc
transition). I've reached the end of my skills, somebody else needs to
take over from here.
I'm submitting this bug against dhcp-client-udeb because that's where it
manifests itself, but feel free to add info and reassign.

Two issues, the first one should be easy to fix, not sure about the
second:

  File /usr/lib/python2.3/site-packages/uno.py, line 62, in ?

Installing libstdc++6 fixed this, I suspect a missing dependancy.

The second problem:

  File /usr/lib/python2.3/site-packages/uno.py, line 62, in ?
import pyuno

I found a reference to this error in
URL:http://bibus-biblio.sourceforge.net/html/en/LinuxInstall.html. This
reference appears to be old, so I am not sure it is relevant or not. It says
the Debian version of python is compiled with UCS4 but python-uno only supports
UCS2.

Do you know if this is the problem, or is this just a red herring?

Bug#318055: python-crypto: build errors in NMU upload

2005-08-12 Thread Bastian Kleineidam
Hi,

I noticed two build failures of my NMU -2.1 upload. I prepared a -2.2
package that fixes those remaining issues.
I try to upload that this evening (meaning german time :).
Here is the changelog:

python-crypto (2.0+dp1-2.2) unstable; urgency=low

  * NMU to fix build failures on some architectures
  * Remove -O3 gcc option on m68k architecture to fix FTBFS due to an
internal compiler error
  * Standards version 3.6.2 (no changes required)
  * Relax the versioned build dependency of libgmp3-dev to 4.1.4-8
instead of -9. Some architectures only have -8 at this point
which is sufficient.

And the diff for setup.py is attached.

  Bastian

Bug#322717: Yes, seems to be PHP version related

2005-08-12 Thread Lionel Elie Mamane
I just upgraded apache and PHP4 and hit this problem. So it definitely
looks like an incompatibility with newer PHP.

libexif10 was removed from sid but your package depends on it and

For the reasons given above, I think that teTeX is only affected by a
 subset of all xpdf vulnerabilities.

We already have xpdf 3.00pl3, so everything till then should be
fixed. We checked sometime before CAN2005-2097 for effects of the
known vulnerabilities on pdfTeX and found none.

I don't know about 2005-2097, but the worst would be a crash of
pdfTeX. Is a patch around?

PS: Derek, the pdfTeX team would highly appreciate it if you
would inform the customers of xpdf like pdfTeX of known
security problems.

was promoted to the testing, but not. Why is it gone?

Anyway, I make this bug non-critical.

Thanks,
Daigo

Could this actually be a gcc problem?

Why is it doing that ldo -2(r11),r26 ?

I think this version of glibc is built with gcc-4.0

Bug#322684: nip2 unuseable because of optimization bug in led.c

2005-08-12 Thread Jay Berkenbilt
Bernd Feige [EMAIL PROTECTED] wrote:

the current package crashes whenever an image or workspace is loaded.

Thanks for providing all these details in your report. I'll try to
resolve this as quickly as possible. Have you reported any bugs
against gcc on this? Either way, I'll look into it and, at the very
least, attempt to implement the workaround you've suggested of
compiling led.c with -O or, if needed, compiling the whole package
with -O. I should find time to get to this in the next few days.
Thanks for the report.

2005-08-12 Thread Bernd Feige
Dear Jay,

Have you reported any bugs against gcc on this?

No, I thought it should be first verified and upstream notified about the
problem;
maybe they know of any specialties in their code that may trigger it. Then, a
smaller
test case should probably be produced for the gcc maintainers...

Regards,
Bernd

Package: boost
Severity: serious

Trying to build the latest boost in pbuilder, it fails:

cat debian/documentation-files \
| xargs cp --parents --target-directory=3Ddebian/libboost-doc/usr/share=
/doc/libboost-doc/HTML
cp: cannot stat `libs/regex/test/regress/index.html?D=3DA': No such file or=
 directory
[...]
cp: cannot stat `tools/boostbook/index.html': No such file or directory

I see that HTTP and wget are used to get the listing, but that will
dump autogenerated index.html files to the index when those files
are naturally not in the orig tarball.

Here's the patch against debian/documentation-files:

Package: gcl
Version: 2.6.6-1
Severity: grave
Tags: sid
Justification: renders package unusable

The gcl binary package depends on binutils-dev (= 2.15-5),
binutils-dev (= 2.15-999), and as a result is now uninstallable in
unstable where binutils is at version 2.16.1-2. This prevents binutils from
migrating to testing, which is needed before gcc-4.0 (and everything in the
C++ transition) can get in. Please fix gcl so that it's compatible with the
current version of binutils.

 dpkg: error processing locales (--configure):

This is the same as #304604: locales uses debconf, debconf uses perl,
and perl has heap corruption in its exit() path (more specifically, the
PerlIO code seems to call fclose() twice on the same file handle).

The new glibc has more draconian heap checking and calls abort() when it
detects corruption, which causes the post-inst script to die (due to
set -e).

Now that glibc 2.3.5 is in unstable this will start to hurt.

Hi.

As said, I created a NMU for this bug (not really uploaded into the
archive though). The files of the NMU are available at
http://mail.incase.de/NMUs/
I first created this NMU with my own patch, but given that it is cleaner
than mine, I converted it to use the patch given in this bugreport.

Why is it doing that ldo -2(r11),r26 ?

I would have thought that old (r11) would have just been copied to
r26. Could you send preprocessed source and compilation details?

Bug#322768: libc6: sshd after upgrade not working

2005-08-12 Thread Adrian Bunk
Package: libc6
Version: 2.3.5-3
Severity: critical

After upgrading from the sarge libc6, sshd on my computer no longer
accepted connections.

Restarting sshd fixed the problem.

It seems the restart services question in the postinst should be
asked for upgrades from 2.3.5 .

I've set the severity of this bug based on the problems a non-working
sshd can cause for non-local users (and the fix for this issue is
trivial).

Bug#315339: lvm2 version 2.01.12-2 complains about Incorrect metadata area header checksum

2005-08-12 Thread Tarmo Toikkanen
Package: lvm2
Followup-For: Bug #315339

Nice to see the initial bug (of 2.01.12-1) being addressed so quickly.
However, using 2.01.12-2 gives me similar problems, while using lvm2
metadata. All vgdisplay commands complain about Incorrect metadata area
header checksum and trying to modify the LV partitions fails with
something like this:

  Incorrect metadata area header checksum
Extending logical volume media to 28,50 GB
  PV segment pe_alloc_count mismatch: 7 != 16
  PV segment VG free_count mismatch: 12 != 3
Internal error: PV segments corrupted in siivet.

Downgrading to 2.01.04-5 makes these problems go away. Attached is my lvm2
config file.

I'm working with upstream on packaging a newer version. The last couple of

I'm not sure if there is an easy fix for the current version.

If the directory is missing qnd qnother pqckqges does the above, stuff will be
copied as md5sum which will not be a directory.

This will only happen when a package ith bad dependency is installed and
installs a md5sum file though.

Bug#322773: Links against libstc++.so.6 and old qt

2005-08-12 Thread Marc 'HE' Brockschmidt
Package: djview
Severity: serious

Hi,

I just looked through the whole mess with djvulibre and noticed that
it was only built on two official archs (i386, uploaded by the
maintainer, and sparc). m68k fails due to a toolchain bug, hppa due to
the broken fakeroot on the buildds and the other fail because they can't
link in Xinerama - I have no idea why this was successful on the sparc
buildd.

Anyway, the sparc binaries are broken, as announced in the build log:
/usr/bin/ld: warning: libstdc++.so.5, needed by /usr/lib/libqt-mt.so, may
conflict with libstdc++.so.6

This means that the current version of djview is broken on sparc (and
probably on i386, iff the maintainer used an up-to-date system to
build).

You'll need to wait at least another day until QT has finished it's
own transition to the new C++ ABI.

http://lists.debian.org/debian-devel-announce/2005/07/msg1.html
contains what you need to know for now, please *read* debian-devel-announce
in the future. This bug shouldn't have happened.

Bug#322780: FTBFS with gcc4.0

2005-08-12 Thread Martin Quinson
Package: widelands
Severity: critical
Version: build9-6

Hello,

I just tried to transition this package to gcc4, and it failed to build. So,
I open this bug to prevent other to give it a try.

That's something I need to sort out with upstream (I'm widelands
maintainer), and I'm hoping it may be fixed in next upstream version, due
some day this summer.

Bye, Mt.

Bug#317314: Any plans to fix firebird for gcc4?

2005-08-12 Thread Christopher Martin
Hello,

Just wondering if/when firebird will likely be rebuilt for the gcc4
transition. This is required before we reenable support in Qt.

Thanks for any info,
Christopher Martin

Package: libnasl
Version: 2.2.5-1
Severity: grave

Hi,

As part of the update to debhelper compatibility version 4, a
libnasl-dev.install file was added to the package.

Unfortunately, an error was made in this file, leading to the header files
being installed in /usr/include/include/nessus, rather than
/usr/include/nessus. Thus, depending packages will FTBFS due to being unable
to locate the header files.

The following trivial patch fixes the problem.
