This is a known problem with the current libssl. See bug #334180 for
details.

In the meantime, revert to dovecot 1.0alpha3-2 which can be found at
http://snapshot.debian.net/archive/2005/10/08/debian/pool/main/d/dovecot/

Rusty, do you have other ideas for debugging?

I have reread the bug reports, and meditated on this issue some more.
This is a possibility I was aware of when I changed to code to drop the
module_mutex before calling mod-init(), years ago. Sorry it took so
long.

Module A depends on Module B. Module B is already being loaded, and
doing its init call (slowly). modprobe A sees B in the kernel and
calls insmod on B, but the kernel won't let A use B because it's not
ready.

There are two possible fixes:
(1) Queue in the kernel when a module isn't ready to be used
(non-trivial),
(2) modprobe can lock modules we depend on before checking whether
they're in the kernel.

The latter is the simplest option. Please try this patch (it will be in
the next release, too). If it seems to work, please ack.

Rusty.

Hi Debian Jed Maintainers,

after consulting with Rafael who has no objections, I hereby announce my
intention to NMU jed with the attached patch. The intention is to have a
workable jed in unstable while allowing you to stay focused on finishing
off the packaging of the new jed release.
Barring objections from the DJG, I'll upload the NMU this weekend.

Kind regards and thanks to all jed maintainers,

I considered it as grave beause util-vserver package in sarge is
unuseable on all non-i386 machines(It should be FTBFS, but it compiled
on the buildd).

The attached patch is a backported from Bertl's

number detection on no vserver patched kernel.

* FX:

Version 6.4-1.1 which fixed CAN-2005-152 on Sept 4, 2005 is still not
available in the stable branch as of October 28, 2005.

Running 'apt-get update apt-get upgrade' on Debian 3.1 does not yet
fix CAN-2005-152 which was fixed roughly 2 months ago.

CAN-2005-152 is syntactically invalid. This problem is already
tagged as bug #334833.

Bug#336167: gcc-4.0: breaks kernel builds in random ways.

2005-10-28 Thread Sven Luther
Package: gcc-4.0
Version: 4.0.2-3
Severity: grave
Justification: renders package unusable

Well, i confirm that this problem is also present on powerpc, using
gcc-4.0 4.0.2-3 makes the kernel build fail, while using -2 seems to be
ok. I have heard people mentioning two other arches where this is the
case (m68k and mips i think) on irc (on #debian-release i think even,
not sure), but no bug has been filed so i do it now.

My powerpc builds failed with :

08:22 svenl kernel/spinlock.c:72:61: error: macro
_spin_lock_irqsave requires 2 arguments, but only 1 given
08:22 svenl kernel/spinlock.c:99:59: error: macro

   -mstring -Wa,-maltivec -Wdeclaration-after-statement
-Wno-pointer-sign -DKBUILD_BASENAME=spinlock -DKBUILD_MODNAME=spinlock
kernel/spinlock.c

And then later :

08:42 svenl fs/ext2/acl.c:483: error: called object '0u' is not a
function

While a 4.0.2-2 build passed fine.

Friendly,

Sven Luther

Bug#323512: Tested patch

2005-10-28 Thread Lennert Buytenhek

It seems like you've missed two more places in debian/rules2:

   ifeq ($(DEB_HOST_GNU_SYSTEM),linux)
   ifeq ($(DEB_HOST_GNU_SYSTEM), linux)

This affects generation of the *.shlibs and shlibs.local files,
not sure whether that's a problem.

During build, I get:

dpkg-shlibdeps: warning: unable to find dependency information for shared
library libstdc++-libc6.2-2 (soname 3, path
/debian/gcc295/work1/gcc-2.95-2.95.4.ds15/debian/libstdc++2.10-glibc2.2/usr/lib/libstdc++-libc6.2-2.so.3,
 dependency field Depends)

This seems to be fixed by changing the two places mentioned above to
linux-gnu as well. I've attached a new version of Matt's patch with
these fixes included.

I considered it as grave beause util-vserver package in sarge is
unuseable on all non-i386 machines(It should be FTBFS, but it compiled
 on the buildd).

The attached patch is a backported from Bertl's
delta-0.30.208-fix03-fix04-hack.diff to sarge, it fixs the syscall
number detection on no vserver patched kernel.

thank :)

This bug only appears when there is not any previous user and you are going to
create the first. There is no problem when you already have a user.

Your patch is fine, I'll fix the problem and then, i'll send it to the
upstream.

Thank you.

Bug#335702: postgresql-8.1: fails to start after upgrade

I just noticed that your NMU patch for jed posted to this bug is incomplete --
you also need to fix the binary dependencies of jed-common, or jed will still
be uninstallable.

thanks for the hint. I should have tested in the same clean chroot I
noticed the bug in before posting the patch. :)
So here is the correct one.

The problem seems to be a function that does not handle the case of an
empty variable. The attached patch which right shifts the whole file
accessing block one step seems to work. In case the file is not
accessible, the previously as empty initialized variable 'users' is
returned, so that should be safe, too. Be warned though, that I never
before edited a Python program :-)

Bug#336188: libemail-valid-perl: FTBFS if network not available

2005-10-28 Thread Daniel Schepler
Package: libemail-valid-perl
Severity: serious

From my build log for libemail-valid-perl, on a machine which was
offline at the moment:

Looking at the test script, I see it's trying to do an MX check on
aol.com and failing if it can't find it. It's unacceptable for a
package to require network access to build.

Bug#336189: udev: doesnt wait long enough to finish children

2005-10-28 Thread Dominik Sauer
Package: udev
Version: 0.071-1
Severity: critical
Justification: breaks the whole system

when installed, the timeout (udevd_timeout variable from
/etc/init.d/udev) is not set big enough to wait for creation of certain
devices (in particular /dev/hd* and ethernet card). This makes the
/etc/init.d/mountall.sh and /etc/init.d/networking scripts fail, thus
rendering the system locked.

when I boot into runlevel 1, wait for the devices to load and rerun the
above-mentioned scripts and then switch into runlevel 2, everything
works fine including graphical login etc.

when I change the timeout to higher value (26 on my machine, but your
mileage may vary), the normal (i.e. runlevel 2) bootstrap processes OK.

I cannot reproduce this. Perhaps your system is outdated and this has
been fixed somewhere long ago. But Monospace is not a real font, it is
an alias for other fonts. I believe this alias is defined in
/etc/pango/pangox.aliases, so you could pick the actual font in your
terminal (e.g. Bitstream Vera Mono or something). Or show me your
pangox.aliases file to see how this might happen.

The machine in question is a fresh install of Sarge from the release
netinst CD.

I don't use sarge. I don't see how this could happen, I've never heard
about this happening to anyone else, and my own Gnome terminals are
fine. Even if I choose Marlett in them, the text is legible (probably
because Pango uses Sans to display the characters that don't exist in
Marlett). Downgrading the bug.

Package: octave-statdataml
Severity: serious
Tags: patch
Justification: Policy 2.2.1

The current octave-statdataml package depends on hdf5 1.6.2, which has
been replaced by hdf5 1.6.4. This package needs to be rebuilt to pick
up the new libraries so that hdf5 can migrate into testing. No source
changes should be required, only a new upload to force a rebuild.

Please try to get to this soon, as the hdf5 (and lam and mpich)
transition has gotten rather complex. Thank you!

Bug#336198: System hangs, when loading module ipw2100 with firmware

2005-10-28 Thread Hans
Package: ipw-2100
Version: ipw2100-source
Severity: serious

-- System Information:
Debian Release: testing/unstable
  APT prefers unstable
APT policy: (500, 'unstable'), (500, 'stable')
Architecture: amd64 (x86_64)
Shell: /bin/sh linked to /bin/bash
Kernel: Linux 2.6.12-1-amd64-k8
Locale: [EMAIL PROTECTED], [EMAIL PROTECTED] (charmap=ISO-8859-15)

Hello dear maintainers !

This is probably a bug, description:

using straight debian-kernel 2.6.12-1-amd64-k8

module: ipw2100

package: ipw2100-source

Bug-description:

The module ipw2100 is self build, using make-kpkg --append-to-version
-1-amd64-k8

Compilation went fine, and, when I do NOT use the firmware, the module
is loaded by the kernel (= insmod is successful)

When I copy the firmware to /usr/lib/hotplug/firmware/ and try to load
the module ipw2100 ,the system hangs. Same, when I start the computer
and the module wants to be loaded.

I confirmed, to have the newest firmware. With 32-bit-systems the module
and the same firmware runs fine (tested with knoppix, kanotix and whax)

So I suppose, this might be a bug, when compiled for 64-bit-systems.

Thanks for help and best regards

Hans

Adding a build-dep on postgresql-server-dev-8.0 seems to fix it, but I'm not

server-side stuff).

Package: gco
Version: 0.3.3-8
Severity: serious

This package fails to build from source because it declares a build
dependency on imlib1-dev and/or gdk-imlib1-dev, which are no longer
installable due to the removal of libpng10-dev from Debian.

The imlib1-dev and gdk-imlib1-dev packages themselves will shortly be
dropped from Debian.

In most cases, you can fix the problem by changing the build dependency:
 imlib1-dev- imlib11-dev
 gdk-imlib1-dev- gdk-imlib11-dev

If your package declares a build dependency on gdk-imlib-dev as an
alternate for gdk-imlib1-dev, that is sufficient for correct
compilation, however, binary packages built in the past may depend on
gdk-imlib1, which is still a problem. If this is the case for your
packages, you should recompile to guarantee use of the new library so
that gdk-imlib1 can be removed in due course.

Please do not hesitate to contact me if there are any problems or difficulties.

Thomas

Justification:

llvm has, apparently accidentally, gotten compiled with the old g++ on i386,
as is noted at http://people.debian.org/~mfurr/gxx/broken.html (and
also on amd64, but that's not an official architecture yet, so whatever.)

Please rebuild it on i386 and binNMU it so that it's compiled with g++ 4.0.

Package: snort
Severity: critical
Version: 2.3.3-2
Justification: remote compromise

Well, I have just read both an X-force and a CERT alert related to Snort,
it seems that it is possible to make a preprocessor (bo) crash and run code
remotely through a single UDP traffic.

I'm still investigating the issue to see if it affects the sarge, etch and
sid versions (we are not using the bo preprocessor from 2.4, which seems to
be the one vulnerable).=20

For more information:
http://xforce.iss.net/xforce/alerts/id/207
http://www.us-cert.gov/cas/techalerts/TA05-291A.html
http://www.snort.org/docs/change_logs/2.4.3/Changelog.txt
http://www.snort.org/pub-bin/snortnews.cgi

It seems CERT's VU#175500 is the only reference available, as no CVE name h=
as
been asigned. It also seems that X-force reported this October 13th and
disclosed it October 18th. It doesn't look like CERT coordinated much, did
they?

Attached is the patch from the 2.4.3 that seems to be relevant to the issue,
it's a rather long patch and does not apply cleanly to 2.3.2-3 at least.

For those people running Snort Debian packages it is advised they disable t=
he
Snort 'bo' preprocessor (it's enabled in the stock Debian configuration)
until this issue has been reviewed and, maybe, fixed.

Regards

Javier

  Greetings,

I'm wondering whether the last four months have provided enough time to
confirm this is still a bug deserving of the grave status. Because of

Is it time to mark this unreproducible, and/or change its severity
  downward to important?

Well, I certainly can't reproduce it: I don't have access to an amd64
 system.

AMD porters: can someone please test geomview? If it produces the
error, could you try rebuilding it with the latest toolchain etc?

 Thanks,
 -Steve

Hi,
I'm using Unstable of the amd64 por. Also, I have a chroot with a ia32 Debian
sid.

I have updated and upgrade today, and I have installed geomview:
ii geomview 1.8.1-9 interactive geometry viewing program

I'm using Nvidia driver well configured and no graphics problem I have by now.

If I open geomview, I have this messages:

[EMAIL PROTECTED]:~$ geomview

also, if I open the file:/usr/share/geomview/data/Antenna.geom

I receive a coredump and this messages:

If I do the same in my chroot:
same version, update and upgraded today:

when I run it in the chroot jail:

[EMAIL PROTECTED]:~$ geomview32

I only have this message, also I don't understand it:

but I can load the Antena.geom file and I only have this mesages:

Thanks Leopold and thanks also to Larry Doolittle who sent me a
similar message, privately.

The messages you quote are definitely from the geomview source.
However, the binary you used was built over a month ago. Would it be
too much trouble for you to do the following?

1. apt-get source geomview
2. build a new deb with current libs and compiler tool chain
3. install and run new geomview

It would be much appreciated,
-Steve

Bug#336227: bumprace uses backgrounds from digitalblasphemy.com

2005-10-28 Thread Josh Triplett
Package: bumprace-data
Version: 1.5.1-1
Severity: serious

The in-game help for bumprace includes credits for the various
components; one of them is Backgrounds: Unknown (see AUTHORS). From
the AUTHORS file:

Backgounds grabbed from the eterm-backgrounds_1.0-1.deb the authors say
 about
 it:
NONE of these images are original work by either of the Eterm authors; they
have all been collected from various sites on the web. As far as I know, they
are all freely available for use.

However, should any person who can provide proof of ownership of any of these
pictures object to their inclusion, they will be IMMEDIATELY withdrawn. No
copyright infringement is intended. Inclusion here should be taken as a
 compliment. :-)

The eterm-backgrounds package referred to here has not existed since slink.

The actual background used in the package comes from
digitalblasphemy.com, with a watermark containing that URL in the
lower-right corner of the image. The digitalblasphemy backgrounds are
nowhere near free enough even for non-free; see
http://www.digitalblasphemy.com/webmasters.shtml for the details, but
basically only personal use is permitted without permission from the author.

The background depicts an earth-like planet with two moons and a
partially-eclipsed surface. It should be possible to get a similar
image via celestia or xplanet.

Hmmm. I wasn't able to reproduce your errors on cmucl nor sbcl (I
didn't try clisp right now).

I remember I've had some similar problems in the past. I discovered
that I had some old .fasl and .x86f files floating around (maybe with
wrong timestamps) and some old systems installed under ~/.clc. After
cleaning up, the issues disappeared.

Before investigating further, could you please check your ~/.clc
directory, the compiler-specific dirs like ~/.sbcl, and maybe try to
remove everything under /var/cache/common-lisp-controller/$USER ?

Btw: please use (asdf:oos 'asdf:load-op :ironclad) for now --- I've
just discovered a packaging bug that prevents (clc:clc-require) to work
correctly. I'll fix it soon :-) (and I'll provide a quick patch if

Bug#329087: Bug#329090: util-vserver: barrier not working, but chroot escape does

2005-10-28 Thread Ola Lundqvist
reassign 329090 kernel-patch-vserver
retitle 329090 barrier not working, but chroot escape does on 2.4 kernel
tags 329090 + moreinfo
merge 329087 329090
thanks

Hi

With this information I'm now reassigning this to the kernel-patch-vserver
package and merging it to the existing bug there.

A simple fix is to simply remove the 2.4 kernel patches from the package
or maybe replace with 2.4 development branch patches (if such exist).

Regards,

// Ola

  Hello

To me it would be good to know if any of these issues are valid
if you use 2.6 kernel and patch from sarge?

  Dear Micah,

Thank you for your tests, I have downloaded the testfs-0.11.sh and did
the similar tests as yours to help confirm the results.

   Test #1
   Using all debian sarge componants:
   kernel-source: 2.4.27-10 (debian sarge)
   util-vserver: 0.30-204-5sarge2 (debian sarge)
   kernel-patch: 1.9.5.3 (debian sarge)

   103, 104, 106, 109, 121, 122 all fail on ext2, not 114 or 124 as your
   tests show.

Conclusion: either the fixes to testfs caused error 114 and 124 to go
away, or you have a different kernel-source or kernel-patch applied.
Either try again with testfs.sh-0.11 or install the latest sarge
  kernel
source and kernel-patch-vserver as those versions are all that matter
  here.

I am using all deian sarge componats, all the same version as yours,
and then did the testfs.sh-0.11 by this way(I've setup a loopback file
on /dev/loop0 already), before start the testfs.sh-0.11, I confirmed the
barrier has proper setup(I also did this in my other tests later):
  # ls -lda /var/lib/vservers
  d- 8 root root 4096 Oct 13 15:37 /var/lib/vservers/
  # showattr -d /var/lib/vservers/

Same fails as you got, and I guess Bertl forgot to change the version in
the script, so the script is still showing [V0.10].

  I also tested the exploit:

  # ./rootesc
  Exploit seems to work. =)
  #
And then I can be able to access the host, for example, I can see the
  vserver's config file on host:
  # ls -ald /etc/vservers /var/lib/vservers/
  drwxr-xr-x 4 root root 4096 Sep 22 14:10 /etc/vservers
  d- 8 root root 4096 Oct 13 15:37 /var/lib/vservers/

   Test #2
   Using only debian sarge util-vserver:
   kernel-source: 2.4.31 (upstream)
   util-vserver: 0.30-204-5sarge2 (debian sarge)
   kernel-patch: 1.2.10 (upstream)

   103, 104, 106, 109, 121, 122 all fail on ext2, the same as failed
  using
all debian sarge componants in test #1.

Conclusion: based on the results from this test, and the previous, it
  is
clear that the debian kernel source and the debian kernel patch dont
   make a difference here

Same here, I am using the vanilla kernel 2.4.31(from kernel.org)
  vserver patch 1.2.10 (upstream)

Bug#333484: filerunner: fails to load

2005-10-28 Thread Stefan Fritsch
2.5.1-15 replaces /usr/lib/filerunner/bitmaps by a symlink
to /usr/share/filerunner/bitmaps . The upgrade fails because of this
part of Debian policy (6.4):
A directory will never be replaced by a symbolic link to a directory
or vice versa; instead, the existing state (symlink or not) will be
left alone and dpkg will follow the symlink if there is one.

This transition has to be handled in the maintainer scripts

A workaround is to uninstall and install the package.
