Bug#330824: I dont believe this bug was acted on properly

2005-11-05 Thread Peter Samuelson

severity 330824 wishlist
retitle 330824 disagreement about example scripts
thanks

[micah]
BTW: Maybe you can move the example files to /u/s/d/s-tools/example/

Thanks so much for not changing the severity there. I guess you
believe this is release-critical. I require a bit of convincing on
that score. I almost tagged this one wontfix just now, but I'll give
you a chance to rebut first.

This did not happen with any of the example files with 1.2.3dfsg1-1,
they all still appear in /usr/share/subversion/hook-scripts.

Many of the files there are usable in situ. Moved to the examples
directory, they wouldn't be (thanks to Policy about gzip). I'm not
interested in breaking people's repositories arbitrarily, which is what
would happen if people *are* using these things in situ. If I break
someone's repository with a svn upgrade I want to at least have a good
reason.

Splitting files that could be moved to the examples directory from the
ones that should be left in /usr/share/subversion would be a pointless
exercise in making files harder to find, in order to prove something
about filesystem organization. To use the script files that come with
example config files requires knowing where to find the latter.

It seems to me that the hot-backup.py script should be restored to
its original useful place (as a script that some backup programs
 use)

Did you read NEWS.Debian.gz?

The other script affected is /usr/lib/subversion/hot-backup.py, which
has now moved into /usr/share/doc/subversion/examples. It was never
a supported executable (or it would live in /usr/bin). It is also no
longer needed, because svnadmin hotcopy now includes the same
functionality. Please use svnadmin hotcopy instead.

 Hi,

Please include this file if you report a bug.

Do you still have the file, or can you reproduce it, and send it to us?

As requested, the relevant file is enclosed.

I forgot to mention that the file tetex.postinst.XXgqP8eU was
reproduced by another setup as the orginal file
tetex.postinst.XXKSxUFW was deleted accicidentally.

I think the contents of the two files are the same.

Hmm, I guess that was an upgrade from an older version.
What makes me wondering is that your postin of tetex-bin creates two
 LaTeX formats:

 fmtutil-sys: running `etex -ini -jobname=latex -progname=latex *latex.ini'

. Please show us the content of /etc/texmf/fmt.d/ . Seems there is
 something left from teTeX 2.0.

And please keep the bug in CC, when answering.

Bug#337607: initramfs-tools: Boot scripts tries to use evms_activate (and mdrun?), which isn't inside initrd.img

2005-11-05 Thread Tommi Vainikainen
Package: initramfs-tools
Version: 0.38
Severity: grave

Inside generated initrd.img /scripts/local-top/evms script tries to
execute /sbin/evms_activate. I don't use evms and I don't have evms
files installed on my computer, and probably related to this fact,
initrd.img does not contain /sbin/evms_activate and therefore booting
fails. Same is true with /scripts/local-top/md. Maybe same is true
with LVM, but vgchange gets installed to my initrd.img correctly
because I've lvm tools installed.

Bug#337613: sets WRONG dependency on kernel image for no reason

2005-11-05 Thread Eduard Bloch
Package: linux-wlan-ng-source
Version: 0.2.2+dfsg-3
Severity: grave

Hello,

I have just pointed by a user on your solution WRT kernel dependency
in debian/control.modules.in and I must admit: IT SUCKS.

 - there is no point in setting a such dependency. People can install
their custom kernels without make-kpkg. RTF Kernel-Howto please.
 - constructing linux- or kernel- is pretty stupid, sorry. You
cannot assume anything, because this applies to debian-kernel
   prebuilt versions ONLY.

Please remove this dependency information or move it to Suggests or so.

Eduard.

Jonathan (I assume you're still the new maintainer for gworkspace), if
you're worried about the upcoming GNUstep library transition, go ahead
and upload a fixed version of gworkspace anyways (along with any other
fixes you have). I doubt that the new library packages will be ready
(read: fully tested) by the time the fixed gworkspace gets into
testing. Plus the fact that cynthiune.app is held up by the other
library transitions, so we won't be able to do our transition until
those other transitions get cleared anyways.

I'm happy to prepare a new package, but isn't it still going to be
unusable 'as is' with the current libfreetype bug? #314385.

Should we prepare a recompiled gnustep-back? Or that not desirable for
some reason?

Why not then simply raise the severity of that other bug? Done now,

Bug#322239: mozilla-firefox: [patch] incorrectly set LD_LIBRARY_PATH in /usr/bin/firefox wrapper

2005-11-05 Thread Vincent McIntyre
Package: mozilla-firefox
Version: 1.0.4-2sarge5
Followup-For: Bug #322239

Hi

I think I am seeing this too. It was reported in #316824 (for 'mozilla')
but I did not cross-report to 'mozilla-firefox'.
The patch below should fix the issue, see #316824 for why I think
it fixes it.

PLEASE can you apply this to the sarge version as well, it is most
annoying to have to continually repatch something like this as other
updates are rolled out.

Unfortunately the 'mozilla' maintainer did not notice or ignored my
request on that count.
Should I file another bug for 'mozilla', against the sarge version?

Sounds like you had initramfs-tools and not yaird installed at the time
of initially installing the kernel.

Reassigning to initramfs-tools.

Regenerating initrd with yaird solved the problem.

Yes, this has been fixed with most recent version of yaird.

If this is fixed in recent initramfs-tools as well, I believe this bug

Bug#317524: infinite loop when using charset_default=iso-8859-1

2005-11-05 Thread Elmar Hoffmann
Hi David,

on Fri, Nov 04, 2005 at 23:23:11 -0500, you wrote:

Thanks! :)

Your observations about the code are very good, though not totally
correct. If you look at function process_config_option(), you'll see
that the original config line is duplicated and split at the '='
character (which has been replaced by '\0'). The *t-- code is
applied to the part after '=' and the loop to erase whitespace will
never backup to the part before the '='.

I'm sorry, but apart from the fact that relying upon such
circumstances does not lead to robust code, I still beg to differ
regarding these circumstances. :)
process_config_option() indeed duplicates the original line, splits it
as you described and passes a pointer to the second part (val) down
through process_config_option_as_arg() and process_arg() to
get_string() as the second parameter arg.
get_string() as per your patch however then duplicates arg to s, which
thus is a new block of memory starting with the beginning of arg and,
unlike the one arg points into, the former '=' is not before it.
t gets to point to s and then is eventually decreased by one and
accessed by isspace(*t) during the first iteration as I described
previously.

Bug#337381: gabber2: Gabber won't start because of missing glade file.

2005-11-05 Thread Goedson Teixeira Paixao
* Bas Kloet ([EMAIL PROTECTED]) wrote:
 Package: gabber2
 Version: 1.9.4+cvs20040709-16
 Severity: grave
 Justification: renders package unusable

I just installed gabber2, but when i try to run it I get the following error:

(gabber2:10937): libglade-WARNING **: could not find glade file
 'Login_dlg.glade'
terminate called after throwing an instance of 'Gnome::Glade::XmlError'

Because of this error, gabber won;t start and is therefor simply unusable.

This problem has been reported before[1]. But when I asked the bug
reporter to check if the file was not really present in the system, he
was not able to reproduce it anymore.

Could you please check that the package is correctly installed? I've
just checked in my machine and this file is present:

,[ shell session ]
| [11:06:[EMAIL PROTECTED]:~ dpkg -L gabber2|grep Login_dlg.glade
| /usr/share/Gabber/Login_dlg.glade
`

Please do this check and tell me if the file is not present or, it
being present, gabber still fails to start.

Regards,
Goedson

Package: lirc-modules-source
Version: 0.7.1pre2-10
Severity: serious
Justification: Policy 10.7.3

Hi,

lirc-modules-source modifies its /etc/lirc/lirc-modules-source.conf
conffile in postinst. This is a violation of policy 10.7.3.
([Conffiles] must not be modified by the maintainer scripts during
installation (or at any other time).)

A possible way to solve this would be to ship the template for the
configuration file in /usr/share/lirc-modules-source.conf (or somewhere
else), generate the corresponding configuration according to answers to
debconf templates in /tmp, and the merge this generated file with the
actual configuration file with ucf.

(I might write the corresponding patch if you wish.)

Cheers,

Nicolas

However, this bug has been dealt with for all releases of Debian, so
it can effectively be closed for certain versions. BTS version tracking
will allow to track any further progress for all distributions

This is a bug in xsltproc ... because the variable exists and is even

this code has been working for 4 years already with xsltproc without any
problem.

Thus I'm reassigning the bug. I also attach ignore.xsl which can be
used as a minimal test case to reproduce the bug :

2005-11-05 Thread Hilko Bengen

thank you

Matthew A. Nicholson [EMAIL PROTECTED] writes:

 I don't use 4.5.3, I use 4.5.5. I can download 4.5.3 and compare the
source changes, but I don't use it and it's not an option for me to test
with it. Give me a few hours and i'll get back to you. :)

4.5.3-4 is the current version in stable and that has a higher
priority for me right now than the version in testing/unstable.

This change got introduced to session.inc after 4.5.3:

 function sess_destroy($key) {
-  db_query(DELETE FROM {sessions} WHERE sid = '$key');
+  db_query(DELETE FROM {sessions} WHERE sid = '%d', $key);
 }

... and this is the last change that supposedly fixes the logout
problem.

 function sess_destroy($key) {
-  db_query(DELETE FROM {sessions} WHERE sid = '%d', $key);
+  db_query(DELETE FROM {sessions} WHERE sid = '%s', $key);
 }

db_query uses sprintf to replace placeholder expressions if passed
more than one argument and it seems to me that using %s does the same
thing as PHP's string expansion as in 4.5.3.

I have removed version 4.5.3-4 from this bug. If you disagree, feel
free to add it again with a found statement to [EMAIL PROTECTED], with a
rationale.

Cheers,
-Hilko

Justification: renders package unusable

Hi,

with the new package package kernel-image-2.4.27-1-386 version 2.4.27-6,
kernel symbols changed [1].

While our kernel packagers discuss the best way to solve this,
linux-wlan-ng does not work anymore. The modules should be recompiled.

For people who can't wait for the official package (I can imagine
Bradley wants to wait that the kernel situation is stabilised), here is
an apt-link to my personal package (recompile + correct wep key
translation). Please note I (lazily) made package version+1, so you'll
probably have to switch manually back to debian version when Bradley
produces the official modules.

deb http://robert.cheramy.net/debian linux-wlan-ng/
deb-src http://robert.cheramy.net/debian linux-wlan-ng/

Cheers,

tibob

 Hi

I think I am seeing this too. It was reported in #316824 (for 'mozilla')
 but I did not cross-report to 'mozilla-firefox'.
The patch below should fix the issue, see #316824 for why I think
 it fixes it.

I don't see why the firefox script should circumvent YOUR broken
LD_LIBRARY_PATH. If your LD_LIBRARY_PATH is b0rked in the first place,
change it.

Sounds like you had initramfs-tools and not yaird installed at the time
 of initially installing the kernel.

 Reassigning to initramfs-tools.

Jonas, i believe he had an older version of yaird without the fbcon fix, and
rebuilt with yaird or something, not sure.

http://lwn.net/Alerts/131964/

JunkBuster is vulnerable to a heap corruption vulnerability, and under
certain configurations may allow an attacker to modify settings.

Impact
==

If JunkBuster has been configured to run in single-threaded mode, an
attacker can disable or modify the filtering of Referrer: HTTP
headers,
potentially compromising the privacy of users. The heap corruption
vulnerability could crash or disrupt the operation of the proxy,
potentially executing arbitrary code.

The fix can probably taken from the above Gentoo security advisory.

You might want to track http://lwn.net/Articles/131972/ for other
vendors responses.

Please also check if the successor, privoxy, is impacted as well.

Now that teTeX 3.0 is in unstable, this bug is RC. Here is a patch, for
explanations please see the Debian TeX Policy in the tex-common package,
or ask on debian-tetex-maint. Will you be able to do the upload soon?

I can NMU this package - or rather I will NMU it; with a 3-day delay if
you don't answer, and without delay if you give me your okay. I'll use
the patch already supplied, just the changelog entry will be adjusted
  and close #33, too.

  Hi,

I'll take care of of both bugs.

That's very good. Regarding my patch, I thought about it and there is
one change I would rather revert: The change from calling fmtutil to
 fmtutil-sys. We have temporarily introduced a backward-compatibility
hack, so that fmtutil will continue to work for a while. On the other
hand, fmtutil-sys is not available in the teTeX version in testing.

I suggest to stay with plain fmtutil, let xmltex (and all other packages
that needed fixes for teTeX-3.0) migrate to testing, and then I'll
remove tetex-base's dummy bug and let itself go into testing.

Ok, I'll patch the patch.

Thanks,
Ardo

This is a bug in xsltproc ... because the variable exists and is even
defined in the command line (and also with xsl:param inside the top
XSL stylesheet). I could reproduce the bug with xsltproc 1.1.15-1... and
this code has been working for 4 years already with xsltproc without any
 problem.

Thus I'm reassigning the bug. I also attach ignore.xsl which can be
used as a minimal test case to reproduce the bug :
$ xsltproc --stringparam trainer false ignore.xsl
 XPath error : Undefined variable
 not(@trainer=$trainer or $trainer='true' or not(@trainer))
   ^
compilation error: file ignore.xsl line 9 element template
 Failed to compile predicate

I guess this is the same as #334784, but i don't have time to check
right now. If you have some time, would you test the patch and see if it
helps your problem ?

Cheers,

Mike

be able to compile with gcc-4.0. If there are no problems reported,
then I will submit the package for upload.

Bug#337674: vgrabbj testing migration

2005-11-05 Thread Luk Claes
-BEGIN PGP SIGNED MESSAGE-
Hash: SHA1

Package: vgrabbj
Severity: serious
Version: 0.9.6-2

Hi

vgrabbj is only installed for i386 because it is mentioned as
packages-arch-specific for i386 only. Though there were mips binaries
uploaded. So either ask for the removal of the old binaries or ask to
change Packages-arch-specific so vgrabbj can migrate to testing.

Cheers

Luk

Bug#337677: knockd: Knockd fails when using a ppp interface

2005-11-05 Thread Laurent CARON
Package: knockd

Knockd since last version is not working on ppp interfaces.

It is not 'seeing' packets that should trigger it.

Reverting back to an old version solves the problem.

Le samedi 05 novembre 2005 à 18:06 +0100, Mike Hommey a écrit :

I guess this is the same as #334784, but i don't have time to check
right now. If you have some time, would you test the patch and see if it
 helps your problem ?

I tried and it doesn't help. Actually it looks like #329678 because the
variable is in a match pattern too ... but I don't understand your
reasoning for closing the bug.

If I check the Pattern grammar, it leads Predicate which is [Expr]
and Expr can certainly include variables... so I checked the ChangeLog
of libxslt and by recursion I found this :
http://bugzilla.gnome.org/show_bug.cgi?id=303289
http://www.w3.org/TR/xslt#section-Defining-Template-Rules

I hate when good features are removed because the standard says so
without explaining why it makes sense ... in particular when I don't
know any clean workaround to do the same thing. :-(

Bug#333052: 2.6.14, udev: unknown symbols for ehci_hcd

Just to let you know, I've also met this problem (on another distro),
and did not know about this bugreport until now.
So I've done another workaround: modprobe already parses /proc/modules
to check whether the modules needed are already loaded, and this file
also shows us the state of the modules, being Loading, Live or
Unloading.

With my patch, modprobe waits until the needed modules come out of the
Loading or Unloading state.

Package: debootstrap
Version: 0.3.2.2
Severity: critical

I just ran debootstrap --print-debs sid in my $HOME and while
cleaning up, debootstrap starting removing my whole $HOME directory.
Apparently it puts its file in the current working dir instead of a
tmp or sub directory and removes the whole dir.

This is not what I'd expect from an option with the following

I guess this is the same as #334784, but i don't have time to check

I tried and it doesn't help. Actually it looks like #329678 because the
variable is in a match pattern too ... but I don't understand your
 reasoning for closing the bug.

If I check the Pattern grammar, it leads Predicate which is [Expr]
and Expr can certainly include variables... so I checked the ChangeLog
of libxslt and by recursion I found this :

I hate when good features are removed because the standard says so
without explaining why it makes sense ... in particular when I don't
know any clean workaround to do the same thing. :-(

You can work around with xsl:choose or xsl:if clauses inside the
xsl:template.

If you can tell which files are concerned and where i can find them, i
can help when i have some time for it (or if it's just trivial).

Yeah I know that, but in my case it's uglier than before. I have an
ignore stylesheet which defines high priority templates to override some
specific templates ... but the criteria to define the specificity
includes this variable.

This ignore stylesheet is used by several other stylesheet. I have to
put dozens of xsl:if in several stylesheets when 3 generic templates did
the work until now.

Thanks for the offer, but I'm the upstream of logidee-tools so I know it

This is a result of a toolchain bug #336114, and unfortunately there is not
much that the debian-qt-kde maintainers until they are told how it will be
solved. If you really need ksayit working, recompiling kdelibs with the

put dozens of xsl:if in several stylesheets when 3 generic templates did
 the work until now.

Maybe you can hack something with modes ? Well, that depends on how your
stuff is done...

Bug#337702: openoffice.org 2.0 won't start since upgrade, libc problem?

2005-11-05 Thread Jeff Davis
Package: openoffice.org
Version: 2.0.0-2
Severity: grave
Justification: renders package unusable

When I run any openoffice command I get an error and it exits.

Example:

$ ooffice

/usr/lib/openoffice/program/soffice.bin: relocation error:
/lib/tls/libpthread.so.0: symbol errno, version GLIBC_PRIVATE not
defined in file libc.so.6 with link time reference

That has been happening ever since I upgraded to 2.0.0-1.
Before that, I had the openoffice.org2 packages installed from
experimental. The experimental openoffice.org2 packages are all removed.

I have libc6 version 2.3.5-7, openoffice.org version 2.0.0-2.

Bug#337466: also missing libxmu-dev

2005-11-05 Thread Zsolt Rizsanyi
Hi!

It seems that libxmu-dev is also missing from the build depends. At least
it won't compile without it in my sarge pbuilder environment.

Looking at ./configure output I found out that it has problems doing the
test for libglut. Since freeglut3-dev was already in build depends I did
some more searching and found that the configure check for glut adds -lXmu
to LIBS if glut is found.
So I tried and it turned out that adding libxmu-dev to the wine build
depends helped.

I'm not sure if this dependency is also required for sid, but I don't see
how it could cause any problems.

Thanks,
Zsolt

2005-11-05 Thread Stephen Quinney
Package: dlocate

I believe this package violates this rule by installing a symlink in

Bug#322239: mozilla-firefox: [patch] incorrectly set LD_LIBRARY_PATH in /usr/bin/firefox wrapper

2005-11-05 Thread Vincent . McIntyre

If your LD_LIBRARY_PATH is b0rked in the first place,
change it.

Well, that's a helpful response! I need to have LD_LIBRARY_PATH set to
run particular software that I need to run to do my work.

In particular, we use Debian 'stable' because we need that stability
when writing programs to swing 1,000 tonnes of metal around the sky
(www.parkes.atnf.csiro.au). However for some other parts of our work
we need to install a more recent GCC than stable provides into
/usr/local/gnu. This is what is biting us here.

The fix is only 4 bytes, and since the shell execs into the binary,
who cares what mangling of LD_LIBRARY_PATH goes on inside the wrapper?
I thought that was the whole point of the wrapper.

And it means an important debian package runs nicely in a wider range
of environments.

Kind regards
Vince

This last part probably needs more explanation.

vgrabbj is listed on that page as i386-specific because of i386 assembler.
If this is no longer applicable (well, it sure managed to build on mips

Which would then break again when the toolchain is fixed; the ABI change

Bug#336098: considering the removal of saods9

2005-11-05 Thread Justin Pryzby
I'm considering having saods9 removed.

The FTBFS bugs aren't a problem; the original one is fixed upstream,
in 4.0b7, and the others are easy to fix by adding lines like
class matrix;.

Also, I can either link against tcl8.3 (after applying a patch) or
statically link against a specially-compiled tcl8.4 to solve the
reported crash on Horizontal cut graph.

But, ./saods9/sla/ contains obscured C code.

slalib is written by Patrick Wallace, and a Fortran copy is
distributed under the GPL by Starlink. A proprietary C copy is
commercially available from Wallace. ./sla/ is an obscured C copy,
with a GPL header. I'm not sure whether the GPL header was added by
Wallace or by Bill Joye upstream, but it doesn't really matter WRT to
the DFSG.

Bill Joye just got back to me after conversation with Pat Wallace,
Doug Mink, and John Roll. I guess the v4 release isn't planned to fix
this problem, so its apparently up to me to fix. I'm going to fool
around with the GPL fortran implementation, and see if I can come up
with anything useful. First, I'll have to reread about C, Fortran,
and f2c calling conventions.

I've filed an RC removal bug, against saods9 only, and given myself a
deadline of 2006-01-01 to have a new package uploaded, otherwise I
will give up.

FYI, the upstream websever hea-www.harvard.edu has been down for a few
days now (again).

Justin

/lib/tls/libpthread.so.0: symbol errno, version GLIBC_PRIVATE not
defined in file libc.so.6 with link time reference

That sounds like a broken libc.

$ objdump -T /lib/tls/libpthread.so.0 |grep GLIBC_PRIVATE.*errno
  D *UND* 0004 GLIBC_PRIVATE errno
  D *UND* 0004 GLIBC_PRIVATE h_errno
$ objdump -T /lib/tls/libc.so.6 |grep GLIBC_PRIVATE.*errno
0008 gD .tbss 0004 GLIBC_PRIVATE errno
001c gD .tbss 0004 GLIBC_PRIVATE h_errno
$

These two libraries are supposed to be used together. The openoffice
packages would have to be doing something *very* perverse to break that;
it's much more likely that you've managed to somehow screw up
/lib/tls/libc.so.6 or /lib/ld-linux.so.2 locally. Check the output of ldd
/usr/lib/openoffice/program/javaldx for junk in /usr/local, use debsums -s
libc6 to verify that none of your libraries have been modified.

Bug#336036: dovecot-imapd: user's inbox corruption

Hopefully, this was happen with only one user's inbox. I'm not sure
about where to look for true cause if this effect.

My guess is the mbox is indeed corrupt. Can you check for e.g. double
from (minus the colon) header lines?

Bug#316241: Ownership problem appears to be unreproduceable; downgrading and tagging

2005-11-05 Thread Don Armstrong
severity 316241 important
tag 316241 unreproducible

As:

uid=$(ls -ln /etc/bind/rndc.key | awk '{print $3}')
if [ $uid = 0 ]; then
[ -n $localconf ] || chown bind /etc/bind/rndc.key
chgrp bind /etc/bind
chmod g+s /etc/bind
chgrp bind /etc/bind/rndc.key /var/run/bind/run /var/cache/bind
chgrp bind /etc/bind/named.conf*
chmod g+r /etc/bind/rndc.key /etc/bind/named.conf*
chmod g+rwx /var/run/bind/run /var/cache/bind

should be taking care of this problem, I'm downgrading and tagging
