The same thing happened to me. Reconfiguring tzdata using
dpkg-reconfigure restored the old setting; incidentally,
dpkg-reconfigure initially suggested Etc, but once I selected Europe
it automatically suggested Paris.

It seems I made a complete blunder when trying to fix a normal bug
resulting in this one. I've just reverted the patch and applied a new

I've stolen this patch from gentoo, it just add some definition to
configure.in and Makefile.am and creates the file glibc-2.6.supp.
I've tested it and seems to work fine, i've also report from gentoo
