Bug#539053: python-qt4 - Fails to build with -j

Hello,

On antradienis 28 Liepa 2009 21:08:49 Bastian Blank wrote:
 Package: src:python-qt4
 Version: 4.5.1-1

 python-qt4 fails to build using -jX. It uses debian/tmp for several
 parallel executed rules (install-arch-%).

 Possible fixes:
 - Use different dirs
 - Use the .NOTPARALLEL: pseudo rule.

Please do not *exaggerate* severity. parallel is OPTIONAL according to policy,
the package does not indicate anywhere that it supports it. Being compatible
with dpkg-buildpackage way of setting MAKEFLAGS and forcing it upon all
packages is NOT required by policy.

Severity important because I agree that the bug is annoying. But not all your
pet bugs are serious.

Bug#543629: gdal: unstable version doesn't build anymore, experimental one does

2009-08-26 Thread Andreas Barth
Package: gdal
Version: 1.5.4-4
Severity: serious

Hi,

gdal doesn't build anymore in unstable (see #542333). However, the
experimental version does. I'm inclined to have that version uploaded
to unstable, and trigger binNMUs of the rdependencies then.

What do you think? How can we proceed to resolve this?

Cheers,
Andi

Are you fine with a NMU of mondo, including the patch that I sent you

Please, reply ASAP.

Yes, i have GPT partitions (6 Tb)

 Did you run grub-install after updating the package?

No

Is there a risk ?

Thanks.

 Don't trust that the debconf template did it for you. Please run it by

 I know On i386-pc (and amd64), the grub package never updates the installed
 version of GRUB automatically.  However, this has rendered the system
 unbootable for me twice now.  I know I'm running something unstable, but
 users
 should NOT be expected to know how to fix an unbootable system.  There should
 at least be a debconf question of whether to run grub-install.

 The error I'm getting is Unknown command: initrd similar to #513592 and
 #497791 (and probably others).

 What happens if you comment out the search commands?  (all of them)

 And if you add insmod linux at the beginning of grub.cfg?

Neither helps.

You have to load kernel first.

I tried loading the kernel by hand which sort of works but then I do
not get the 'boot' command so I cannot start it.

With grub rescue CD I managed to do this so I suspect there is
something deficient in the on-disk installation of grub.

Thanks

Michal

 problem started whe I update my system a week ago. It's the same in

This upgrade issue has been fixed in unstable.

You need to upgrade.

Note that I do not consider testing to be usable as a desktop system, so
this kind of breakage is expected.

Bug#519548: patch to fix mondo

2009-08-26 Thread Andree Leidenfrost
Hi Rogério,

If you want to do an NMU of this one I am perfectly happy with this, in
fact I would be grateful.

I have had virtually no time to spend on my packages at all for the last
three or four month but hope this will change soon.

I am wondering: Would you consider becoming co-maintainer of the Mondo
Rescue Debian packages?

Best regards,
Andree

 Are you fine with a NMU of mondo, including the patch that I sent you

 Please, reply ASAP.

Bug#519548: Getting mondo updated

2009-08-26 Thread Rogério Brito
Hi, Andree.

It is strange, but I have not received any mails on my account.

Please, reply with a CC to my address rbr...@users.sf.net so that I
have more chance of seeing the messages (apparently, my University's
mail server has a problem).

Anyway, back to the subject of maintaining mondo, yes, I would like to
work on it a little bit. I'm still not sure if I can co-maintain it
(most probably, I can), but I would like to delve further in the code.

That being said, if I decide to co-maintain the package, can I put my
name in the uploaders field and add the DMUA: yes (as I am a DM)? In
fact, I think that a good thing would be to have mondo/mindi/etc in a
public repository (I would suggest that we create one named pkg-mondo
in alioth).

What do you think? I would also be willing to spread the word so that
we can get some more contributions (and/or users).

Regards, Rogério Brito.

Coin,

With the patch in #542906, i managed to make a package without the
suhosin patch, and the problem still persist, so i guess this is a bug
in 5.2.10 and not in the suhosin check as i first thought.

Seems 5.2.9.dfsg.1-4 is neither in the archive anymore, nor in

 Is there a risk ?

There's a risk GRUB stops booting, but according to your report it doesn't
already.

Please do the following, in this order:

  - Update GRUB by running grub-install /dev/sda. Check if this fixed
the problem.

  - Create a BIOS Boot Partition, and run grub-install again. This is highly
recommended when installing on GPT labels. For details see:

  http://grub.enbug.org/BIOS_Boot_Partition

then check if this fixed the problem.

 stable as in #542514? :) The idea of uploading 5.3 to unstable came
 up with recent load of bug reports filled on 5.2.10.

 This seems to be caused by a large merge from the 5.3 branch by upstream,
 which I plan to revert on the next upload (testing being one of the reasons
 why it's taking me so long to upload).

But anyway it would be great if you can try 5.3.0-3 from experimental.
It needs as much testing as it could get.

Ondrej.

The lenny version doesn't install at all, though. And installing only

Package: ffmpeg
Version: 4:0.5+svn20090706-1
Severity: serious
Justification: Policy 4.13

The executables in the ffmpeg binary package now link statically
against ffmpeg libraries, whereas Policy calls for dynamic linkage.
In this instance, there are no security concerns because the libraries
in question all come from the same source package anyway, but the code
duplication still adds a fair bit of bulk, increasing Installed-Size
on amd64 from less then a megabyte to nearly seventeen. Could you
please switch back to dynamic linkage?

Thanks!

Bug#543660: libgudev-1.0-dev: libgudev-1.0.la depends on /usr/lib/libudev.la which doesn't exist

2009-08-26 Thread Emilio Pozuelo Monfort
Package: libgudev-1.0-dev
Version: 146-1
Severity: serious

Hi,

libgudev-1.0.la has the following dependency_libs:

dependency_libs=' /usr/lib/libudev.la /usr/lib/libgobject-2.0.la
/usr/lib/libglib-2.0.la'

However, /usr/lib/libudev.la is shipped in libudev-dev, but libgudev-1.0-dev
doesn't depend on it. This causes build failures like this:

  CCLD   librhythmbox-core.la
libtool: link: cannot find the library `/usr/lib/libudev.la' or unhandled
argument `/usr/lib/libudev.la'

Please fix the -dev package dependencies.

Thanks,
Emilio

Bug#543670: libgudev-1.0-dev misses a dependency on libudev-dev

2009-08-26 Thread Emilio Pozuelo Monfort
Package: libgudev-1.0-dev
Version: 146-1
Severity: Serious

Hi,

libgudev.la contains the following dependency_libs:

dependency_libs=' /usr/lib/libudev.la /usr/lib/libgobject-2.0.la
/usr/lib/libglib-2.0.la'

However it doesn't depend on libudev-dev (= version that starts to ship
libudev.la), which means packages fail to build like this:

CCLD   librhythmbox-core.la
libtool: link: cannot find the library `/usr/lib/libudev.la' or unhandled
argument `/usr/lib/libudev.la'

Please correct the dependencies, or get rid of the dependency_libs / la files
altogether.

Thanks,
Emilio

Bug#543669: [synaptic] crashes when select range of packages with shift left-mouse

2009-08-26 Thread Brent S. Elmer Ph.D.
Package: synaptic
Version: 0.62.7+b1
Severity: serious

--- Please enter the report below this line. ---
When I try to select a range of packages to upgrade in synaptic by left mouse
clicking
on the first upgrade and holding shift and left mouse clicking on the last
upgrade,
synaptic crashes. I ran from the command line to see if any errors come out
but none did.
This is reproducible every time. I upgrade all packages this way every day on
my squeeze box.  It worked
yesterday but not today.

I can no longer just use mark all upgrades because of another bug.
I have upstart installed and when I use mark all upgrades, it always tries to
remove upstart and
install sysvinit. I submitted a bug report for upstart on this a long time ago.

Bug#543660: libgudev-1.0-dev: libgudev-1.0.la depends on /usr/lib/libudev.la which doesn't exist

2009-08-26 Thread Michael Biebl
Hi Emilio, hi Marco,

another option, instead of adding a libudev-dev dependency to libgudev-1.0-dev
is, to just remove the *.la files from libudev-dev and libgudev-1.0-dev.

Actually, this would be my preferred solution, as both packages ship pkg-config
files, which are better then *.la files anyway.

Cheers,
Michael

 With these elements I hope I give you the maximum details about my
 hardware and software configuration.

ok, i just tried to reproduce the bug with similar setup (lvm over luks)
and a selfcompiled kernel using your config-2.6.30-1-amd64, but i
failed. the system still boots as expected.

 My laptop doesn't use xen hypervisor even if the kernel message
 display this information.

some of the xen packages you've installed don't exist in the archive
any longer, xen 3.2 has been replaced by xen 3.4 in the meanwhile.

 I agree with you when you're saying that the lvm setup is broken
 that's what my system complain about since the upgrade of the kernel
 and it's link to the fact that as the device /dev/sda5 isn't
 decrypted, my lvm setup wasn't available on boot process.

in another mail you wrote:

 Output during boot :

 ...

 skipping volume group debian.
 unable to find LVM volume debian/root

 gave up waiting for root device. common problems :
 - boot args cat /proc/cmdline
 - check rootdelay =(did the system wait long enough?)
 - check root =(did the system wait for the right device?)
 - missing modules ( cat /proc/modules)

 (initramfs)

could you verify that this is the exact output you get at trying to boot
the broken linux kernel 2.6.30-1-amd64?
this is the output i get at booting with a linux kernel 2.6.30-1-amd64
built with your kernel config:
 Volume group debian not found
 Skipping volume group debian
Unable to find LVM volume debian/root
 Volume group debian not found
 Skipping volume group debian
Unable to find LVM volume debian/swap_1
Unlocking the disk /dev/hda2 (hda2_crypt)
Enter passphrase:

the LVM errors are harmless. they only appear for the reason that lvm
is started both before and after cryptroot. that's to support both lvm
over luks and luks over lvm setups.

if the boot output above is what you get, then a broken initramfs file
which misses the cryptroot initramfs script might be the reason.
please attach the output of the following commands as well (from a
working system, i.e. with kernel 2.6.29-1-amd64):

ls -al /boot/
[ -f /boot/grub/menu.lst ]  cat /boot/grub/menu.lst
[ -f /boot/grub/grub.conf ]  cat /boot/grub/grub.conf

and attach /tmp/initramfs-2.6.30-1-amd64.log after executing

sh -x mkinitramfs --supported-target-version=2.6.30-1-amd64 \
-o /tmp/initramfs-2.6.30-1-amd64 2/tmp/initramfs-log

Bug#542140: fglrx-driver: fglrx driver doesn't work with linux-image-2.6.30 (AMD64)

2009-08-26 Thread Bertrand Marc
Hi,

I don't know if you still have no hardware acceleration, but it seems that
downgrading libdrm to 2.3.1 (in Lenny, see
http://packages.debian.org/lenny/libdrm2) could give you hardware
acceleration with Xserver 1.4 and Linux 2.6.30.

Bug#541041: insserv: user changes have to be preserved

2009-08-26 Thread Michael Biebl
 I guess a debconf message explaining that the dependencies have to be
 changed to change the boot order would be in order.

 I don't think this suffices. Every maintainance script that moves some startup
 links to a different level was supposed to check first whether those links are
 still in the default level and not touch them if they weren't. Why can't we
 expect the same from insserv?

That is impossible. insserv can't find out [1] which set of runlevels and
priorities are the default for a given package, as we have no database for that
in Debian (contrary e.g. to Fedora/Redhat, which encode the default
runlevel/priorites in each init script header).
Only each individual package knows, which it's default runlevels/priorities are.

That's another shortcoming unfortunately of our current system.

Cheers,
Michael

[1] At least I don't know of a sane way how to do that.

Hi,

php5 started to FTBFS with the versions of autoconf in testing and
unstable. It builds correctly with the version of autoconf in stable.

Please see
https://buildd.debian.org/fetch.cgi?pkg=php5ver=5.2.10.dfsg.1-2%2Bb1arch=i386stamp=1250588329file=log
for the full buildlog.

As I don't know if this is improper usage on side of php, or if
autoconf broke expected functionality here, I'm reporting against both
packages.

Cheers,
Andi

There's a reasonable chance we'll be able to include nouveau in squeeze

that'll happen for 2.6.32). I wouldn't bet on it replacing nv in all
cases quite yet.

Hi,

Whilst building your package on AVR32, the build failed due to
presumably some autoconf/automake related issues.

The full build log is available:

http://buildd.debian-ports.org/fetch.php?pkg=php5ver=5.2.10.dfsg.1-2arch=avr32stamp=1250529847file=logas=raw

I have also been able to reproduce this problem on my amd64 system, so
this is /not/ AVR32 specific.

Regards,
Bradley Smith

Hello,

sg3utils recently got a new SONAME. Please update your build
dependency libsgutils1-dev to libsgutils2-dev, so that the old
1 soname binary packages can be removed from the archive.

I verified that the package builds correctly with the new version.

Thanks,

Martin

Bug#543346: libunwind7 is not required on all archs but ia64

2009-08-26 Thread Daigo Moriwaki
Hello Matthias,

Matthias Klose wrote:
 libunwind7 should only be required for ia64, it shouldn't be installed
 by default on other archs.

Could you elaborate the reason of restricting only to ia64?

The upstream describes on the platforms in
/usr/share/doc/libunwind7-dev/README.gz:
 This is version 0.99 of the unwind library. This library supports
 several architecture/operating-system combinations:

  Linux/IA-64:   Fully tested and supported.
  Linux/x86-64:  Works well.
  Linux/x86: Works well, but C library is missing some unwind-info.
  Linux/PARISC: Works well, but C library missing unwind-info.
  HP-UX/IA-64: Mostly works but known to have some serious limitations.
  Linux/PPC64:   Newly added.

So, x86-64 looks reasonable for me. Moreover, the reason why I NMUed is that
google-porftools requires this library for x86-64 (amd64).

Daigo

Matthias,

 it's not needed by default on architectures other than ia64. only the
 unwinding in gcc on ia64 uses the library by default. it's unused on all

Google-perftools describes[1]:

 Perftools-Specific Install Notes

 *** NOTE FOR 64-BIT LINUX SYSTEMS

 The glibc built-in stack-unwinder on 64-bit systems has some problems
 with the perftools libraries. (In particular, the cpu/heap profiler
 may be in the middle of malloc, holding some malloc-related locks when
 they invoke the stack unwinder. The built-in stack unwinder may call
 malloc recursively, which may require the thread to acquire a lock it
 already holds: deadlock.)

 For that reason, if you use a 64-bit system, we strongly recommend you
 install libunwind before trying to configure or install google
 perftools.

Libunwind on x86_64 is of use, at least, for google-perftools.
What do you think?

Bug#541307: xserver-xorg: x locks requires reboot

 Version 2.7.99.902-1 seems to work. This might be an option which doesn't

Please file your own bug for this. With as much information as

Hi,

At least on amd64, the latest-version (2.0.5-1) lacks the source directory
/usr/include/eigen2.
This of course renders the package unusable.

Thanks in advance,

Justification: FTBFS

Hi,

your package FTBFS due to missing hierarchy.html, e.g. on hppa[1]:
| cd /build/buildd/eigen2-2.0.5/obj-hppa-linux-gnu/doc
/build/buildd/eigen2-2.0.5/doc/cleanhierarchy.sh
/build/buildd/eigen2-2.0.5/obj-hppa-linux-gnu/doc/html/hierarchy.html

file or directory
| make[4]: *** [doc/CMakeFiles/doc] Error 2

 1. https://buildd.debian.org/status/package.php?suite=unstablep=eigen2

I've reproduced it on kfreebsd-i386 and once that point reached, there
was no hierarchy.html to be seen.

Package: python-numpy
Version: 1:1.3.0-1
Severity: serious
Justification: FTBFS on severa architectures.

The endianness detection for numpy has changed, causing it to not
build on alpha, armel, hppa, mips and mipsel.

The attached patch forces the use of endian.h, and fixes the error.

HTH.

Bug#543730: SIP 4.8 has a new (non-free?) license

2009-08-26 Thread James Y Knight

Source: sip4-qt3
Version: 4.8.1-1
Severity: serious

The copyright file in the package contains the license for SIP 4.0 not
SIP 4.8. (That's a bug in itself...)

The *actual* SIP 4.8 license (contained in the file named LICENSE)
is substantially different. In particular, it now contains a new clause:

4. Licensee may not use SIP 4.8.1 to generate Python bindings for any
C or C++ library for which bindings are already provided by Riverbank.

As I understand things, this makes the license non-free due to DFSG6
No Discrimination Against Fields of Endeavor, and furthermore, not
GPL-compatible.

Package: php-html-template-it
Version: 1:1.2.1-2
Severity: grave
Justification: renders package unusable

The package does not render blocks correctly, causing any PHP templates
using the library not to work correctly.

Installing directly from pear fixes the problem.
pear install --alldeps HTML_Template_IT
which installs channel://pear.php.net/HTML_Template_IT-1.2.1.

For instance the following code from /usr/share/doc/php-html-template-it/

?php
require_once 'HTML/Template/IT.php';

$data = array (
'0' = array('Stig', 'Bakken'),
'1' = array('Martin', 'Jansen'),
'2' = array('Alexander', 'Merz')
);

$tpl = new HTML_Template_IT('./templates');
$tpl-loadTemplatefile('main.tpl.htm', true, true);

foreach ($data as $name) {
foreach ($name as $cell) {
// Assign data to the inner block
$tpl-setCurrentBlock('cell');
$tpl-setVariable('DATA', $cell);
$tpl-parseCurrentBlock();
}
// Assign data and the inner block to the
// outer block
$tpl-setCurrentBlock('row');
$tpl-parseCurrentBlock();
}
// print the output
$tpl-show();
?

gives the following html:

html
tableborder
trtdStig/tdtdBakken/tdtd{DATA}/td/tr
trtdMartin/tdtdJansen/tdtd{DATA}/td/tr
trtdAlexander/tdtdMerz/tdtd{DATA}/td/tr
trtd{DATA}/td/tr
/table
/html

Whereas under the pear version it produces the following html:

html
tableborder
trtdStig/tdtdBakken/td/tr
trtdMartin/tdtdJansen/td/tr
trtdAlexander/tdtdMerz/td/tr
/table
/html

As you can see, the current package is completely broken.

Rory

Package: libmimic0
Version: 1.0.4-1
Severity: serious
Justification: Policy 10.2

Hi,

libmimic0.so doesn't link to glib, but is using some of its symbols.
This leads to unresolvable symbols when using the library.

Quoting from policy:

 Although not enforced by the build tools, shared libraries must be
 linked against all libraries that they use symbols from in the same
 way that binaries are. This ensures the correct functioning of the
 shlibs system and guarantees that all libraries can be safely opened
 with `dlopen()'. Packagers may wish to use the gcc option
 `-Wl,-z,defs' when building a shared library. Since this option
 enforces symbol resolution at build time, a missing library reference
 will be caught early as a fatal build error.

I'll attach a patch fixing this.

Cheers,
Emilio

Dear Maintainer,

While reviewing some packages, your package came up as a possible
candidate for removal from Debian, because:

 * Last maintainer upload in 2006
 * Both maintainers are otherwise inactive
 * Several unaddressed bugs
 * Limited usefulness

If you think that it should be orphaned instead of being removed from
Debian, please reply to this bug and tell so.

If you disagree and want to continue to maintain this package, please
just close this bug and do an upload also fixing the other issues.

Bug#543738: gtk2-engines-cleanice: should this package be removed?

2009-08-26 Thread Lucas Nussbaum
Package: gtk2-engines-cleanice
Version: 2.4.1-0.3
Severity: serious
User: debian...@lists.debian.org
Usertags: proposed-removal

Dear Maintainer,

While reviewing some packages, your package came up as a possible
candidate for removal from Debian, because:

 * Last maintainer upload in 2005
 * Unaddressed bugs, that severely limit the usefulness of the package
 * Package of limited usefulness

If you think that it should be orphaned instead of being removed from
Debian, please reply to this bug and tell so.

If you disagree and want to continue to maintain this package, please
just close this bug and do an upload also fixing the other issues.

If you agree that it should be removed, send the following commands to
cont...@bugs.debian.org (replace nn with this bug's number):

severity nn normal
reassign nn ftp.debian.org
retitle nn RM: packagename -- RoM; reasons
thanks

2009-08-26 Thread Lucas Nussbaum
Package: quark
Version: 3.21-3.3
Severity: serious
User: debian...@lists.debian.org
Usertags: proposed-removal

Dear Maintainer,

While reviewing some packages, your package came up as a possible
candidate for removal from Debian, because:

 * Last maintainer upload in 2005
 * 3 NMUs since then
 * package of limited usefulness (alternatives available, low popcon)

If you think that it should be orphaned instead of being removed from
Debian, please reply to this bug and tell so.

If you disagree and want to continue to maintain this package, please
just close this bug and do an upload also fixing the other issues.

Dear Maintainer,

While reviewing some packages, your package came up as a possible
candidate for removal from Debian, because:

 * Last maintainer upload in 2005
 * Maintainer inactive in Debian
 * Only works with old thinkpads, apparently

If you think that it should be orphaned instead of being removed from
Debian, please reply to this bug and tell so.

If you disagree and want to continue to maintain this package, please
just close this bug and do an upload also fixing the other issues.

Is now on the mirrors. Though it has still another problem if you have
