Bug#746874: Not an actual bug yet

2014-05-31 Thread Scott Kitterman
Feel free to raise the priority again when there's an actual FTBFS in the
archive. As it is, all this does it get the package tagged for removal along
with rdepends like digikam (which is why I noticed).

This exception is caused by a new dependency of jasper on coyote in the

include /usr/share/tomcat6/lib/tomcat-coyote.jar.

Hi Domenico, thanks a lot for your patch. Unfortunately I am very busy
at the moment, but I should be able to take care of this package at the
latest in July. By the way, I wouldn't object to an NMU.

Bug#739190: netenv doesn't come up initializing via systemd

 Package: netenv
 Version: 0.94.3-30
 Severity: normal

 Don't know how to debug?
systemctl netenv start doesn't start the dialog.

Running netenv by sysvinit everthing seems to be ok.

Under systemd all services run in a defined context.
This also means you can't prompt for input by reading from the console.

# X-Interactive: true

as used by the netenv sysv init script does not work by design. See [1]:

Services cannot read from stdin, as this will be connected to
/dev/null. That means interactive init scripts are not supported (i.e.
Debian's X-Interactive in the LSB header is not supported either.)
Thankfully most distributions do not support interaction in init scripts
anyway. If you need interaction to ask disk or SSL passphrases please
consider using the minimal password querying framework systemd supports.
(details, manual page)

A grep over the archive shows
apache2/init.d/apache2:# X-Interactive: true
console-common/init.d/keymap.sh:# X-Interactive:true
cryptsetup/init.d/cryptdisks:# X-Interactive: true
cryptsetup/init.d/cryptdisks-early:# X-Interactive: true

netenv/init.d/netenv:# X-Interactive: true
openvpn/init.d/openvpn:# X-Interactive: true
sysv-rc/init.d/README:# X-Interactive: true

cryptsetup support is built-in, console-setup/kbd do not really need to
prompt. Remains openvpn and apache2 which potentially require it to
unlock SSL certificates, but openvpn now ships a native service file.

That leaves netdev.
Tbh I don't know what to do about that. The password agents [2] were
designed to prompt for passphrases, not to select from a list from
pre-defined values. So they are not applicable to the case.

While you can change a service file's StandardInput= setting so it
actually get's access to the console during boot, a systemctl start
netdev.service in you terminal emulator does not work with that either
afair. But for this case you could simply provide a command-line tool
like netenv-select or so

As a closing remark, let me add that it is generally discouraged to
prompt for input during boot.

Indeed, this is the only issue.

task-gnome-desktop depends on gnome-core, but this will not prevent the
migration.

Indeed. Unless something has changed, only broken (linux-)i386 dependencies
prevent migration.

Bug#749888: gnome-terminal: FTBFS on kfreebsd hurd archs

2014-05-31 Thread Robert Millan

Hi,

I find it very strange that a terminal application needs gnome-shell. There are
dozens of terminal applications, and so far they seem to manage without dragging
their own desktop environment of choice with them.

Which makes me wonder: Does gnome-terminal actually work without gnome-shell? Is
this setup properly tested and supported by upstream?

In other words, does upstream release procedure account for the possibility
that one might want to use gnome-terminal without gnome-shell, and do their
QA procedures ensure that the resulting package will be usable?

I fully expect a yes as answer.

If that's not the case, then I think it'd be much better to change Architecture
field instead so that it's only built on archs where it's actually supported.

It also supports a mode though where you specify the network profile via
a kernel command line argument.
I would make that the only supported modus operandi under systemd.

- connect to a nis network
- connect to a a nisless network

This I manged flawlessly via netenv. As nis ist started before any
networkmanger like wicd or nm, there is no way to slowdown nis to
wait until network is avail. A non providing nisserver caused by no
network slows down a machine useless at all.

Bug#749718: FTBFS on s390x

2014-05-31 Thread Norbert Preining
Argg, indeed, there is one place left ... in the libpaper code.

I uploaded a new texlive-base that *disables* the luajittex format
completely.

It is too much pain to support an experimental format that is
not necessary, since there is the normal luatex format.

Those who *want* to play around can re-activate it easily by
editing a conffile.

Thanks for your patience.

Um, a binary package on any release arch stalls migration, I think. Did
you say that based on the Britney excuses output as shown on the PTS?

Britney tests installability on i386 first, and may short-cut without
testing any other arches, so it often doesn't list other arches but they
do matter.

GNOME maintainers have uploaded a new src:meta-gnome3 today though

Bug#740491: Should #740491 and #740574 be merged?

2014-05-31 Thread Francesco Poli
Hello,
I see that, after this bug was reported, another bug report (#740574)
was filed against libtirpc1, mentioning #740491.

Are these two bug reports about the same issue?

Should #740574 be upgraded to severity 'serious' and merged with
#740491, after reassigning one of the two reports to the other package?

What do you think?

I hope the issue may be fixed soon (unfortunately libtirpc1 seems to be
orphan...).
Thanks for your time.

Hi Michael.

I've been trying to reproduce this without success on all possible
non/chrooted pbuilder/cowbuilder and architectures (even though is
arch:all) combinations.
You can see them attached.

Could it be possible this is due to some environment limitations on the
jenkins or a one shot thing? Is is possible for you to trigger a new
clean rebuild for this pkg?

Thanks in advance.

Stranger still that it is a *build* dependency; here's what happens
without it:

I can't imagine what feature of gnome-terminal this is used for.
Maybe there's some way to split these DBus definitions out into a
gnome-shell-dev package or similar, but we should find out if
gnome-shell is still needed at run-time.

I would imagine some Linux users of other desktops use gnome-terminal;
I'd check this on popcon.d.o but it is unavailable today.

Bug#749888: gnome-terminal: FTBFS on kfreebsd hurd archs

2014-05-31 Thread Robert Millan

Please accept my apologies. Apparently my previous mail wasn't clear enough for
everyone. So please allow me to ellaborate: The text had a statement and some
questions. One can tell them appart because questions end with a '?' sign, and
statements don't. The questions are what I'd really like to know, whereas the
statement merely acts as an introduction.

This is not a question:

I find it very strange that a terminal application needs gnome-shell. There are
dozens of terminal applications, and so far they seem to manage without dragging
their own desktop environment of choice with them.

I don't expect an answer on this, and I'm not asking anyone to research this. I
could have researched it myself, but I don't have a special interest in the
answer
per se, only about its implications (see below).

These are questions:

Which makes me wonder: Does gnome-terminal actually work without gnome-shell? Is
this setup properly tested and supported by upstream?

In other words, does upstream release procedure account for the possibility
that one might want to use gnome-terminal without gnome-shell, and do their
QA procedures ensure that the resulting package will be usable?

Unfortunately I cannot answer them myself, because I'm not familiar with GNOME
development procedures, nor with the implied commitments that come with them.

It would be very nice if the GNOME maintainers can cast some light on this.

Thanks in advance,

It seems (just looking at the sources, I'm not a GNOME guy)
gnome-shell is needed to integrate gnome-terminal as search provider
for gnome-shell; OTOH the feature seems optional, and passing
--disable-search-provider indeed disables it.

Attached a first version of patch for it; the changes to control.in
and rules should be fine, while most probably the .install files
could need few tricks (since gnome-terminal-search-provider.ini is
not installed). GNOME team: if you could help on this, that would be
great.

IMVHO -release@ doesn't need to know about what happens to every single

I was under the impression that -release was overseeing the QA requirements
for Jessie are being satisfied when it comes to GNOME on non-Linux ports.

I take note that's no longer the case and will drop the list from CC in
future mails regarding this issue.

Apologies for any inconvenience this missunderstanding may have caused.

Thank you. Do you plan to upload this?

Still, would be nice to obtain an answer from GNOME team. The gnome-shell-gdm3
dependency was supposed to be optional too, until it wasn't.

Judging from their previous response [1] I suspect they are reluctant to provide
support for non-standard configurations. But of course, and explicit answer will
be much better than speculation.

Clearly, if non-standard configurations are the way to go, they're supposed to
be supported by either upstream or Debian maintainers.

The full build log is available at:
https://buildd.debian.org/status/fetch.php?pkg=colordarch=s390xver=1.2.0-3stamp=1401508205

The problem is due to a wrong cast in lib/colord/cd-it8.c:

|GDateTime *datetime = NULL;
|gsize size_tmp = 0;
|guint i;
...
|ret = cmsIT8SaveToMem (it8_lcms, NULL, (cmsUInt32Number *) size_tmp);
|g_assert (ret);
|data_tmp = g_malloc (size_tmp);
|ret = cmsIT8SaveToMem (it8_lcms, data_tmp, (cmsUInt32Number *)
size_tmp);

size_tmp is equivalent to an uint64_t, while cmsUInt32Number is
equivalent to uint32_t. Such a cast is not allowed, and does not work
on 64-bit big endian machines.

Package: gnome-terminal
Version: 3.12.2-1
Severity: serious
Justification: FTBFS

Dear Maintainer,

Hello,

kfreebsd-any and hurd-any have been removed from the gnome-shell
archs. gnome-terminal thus needs to make the dependency on gnome-shell
[!kfreebsd-any !hurd-any] to be buildable again there.

Thanks,
Samuel

Bug#750018: mysql-workbench hangs on any attempt to connect to a database.

2014-05-31 Thread sherif
Package: mysql-workbench
Version: 6.1.4+dfsg-2
Severity: grave
Justification: renders package unusable

Dear Maintainer,

If I start mysql-workbench, it seems to start OK, but as soon as I try to do
anything it completely locks up (unresponsive). The lock up seems to be
triggered by ANY attempt to connect to a database, making the application
unusable.

This fault has only recently appeared (until about a week ago it worked
normally). I assume therefore that some dependency has changed and causes a
crash.

I have tried starting from the command line with mysql-workbench --log-
level=debug3 , but even that shows no meaningful output (just Logger set to
level 'debug3'. '011' Ready. ** Message: /usr/share/mysql-
workbench/extras).

It seems that either the original source needs to be repacked or replacing the

Thanks, but building with a stock pdebuild --use-pdebuild-internal (i.e.,
without cowbuilder) still succeed. The build also succeed with sbuild
(which I believe is the closest thing to the buildd configuration one can
easily install) so I honestly wonder if the bug doesn't actually lie in
the rebuild method or toolchain, rather than in the package.

I have finally gotten to the bottom of the issue, which isn't at all in
php-guzzle-stream: it seems the version of dpkg in wheezy (1.16.14) would not
honour the file mode when applying patches. Thus your patch wouldn't create a
symlink, but instead creates a plain file. As my set up is such that I extract
the package in a wheezy environment but then build in sid, the build process
would honour the file mode.

I'll see whether I can fix my build environment ...

Best,
Michael

The package fails to build in a test rebuild on at least amd64 with
gcc-4.9/g++-4.9, but succeeds to build with gcc-4.8/g++-4.8. The
severity of this report may be raised before the jessie release.

The full build log can be found at:
http://people.debian.org/~doko/logs/failed-gcc49/ann_1.1.2+doc-4.1_unstable_gcc49.log
The last lines of the build log are at the end of this report.

To build with GCC 4.9, either set CC=gcc-4.9 CXX=g++-4.9 explicitly,
or install the gcc, g++, gfortran, ... packages from experimental.

  apt-get -t experimental install g++

Common build failures are new warnings resulting in build failures
with -Werror turned on, or new/dropped symbols in Debian symbols
files. For other C/C++ related build failures see the porting guide

The package fails to build in a test rebuild on at least amd64 with
gcc-4.9/g++-4.9, but succeeds to build with gcc-4.8/g++-4.8. The
severity of this report may be raised before the jessie release.

The full build log can be found at:

The last lines of the build log are at the end of this report.

To build with GCC 4.9, either set CC=gcc-4.9 CXX=g++-4.9 explicitly,
or install the gcc, g++, gfortran, ... packages from experimental.

  apt-get -t experimental install g++

Common build failures are new warnings resulting in build failures
with -Werror turned on, or new/dropped symbols in Debian symbols
files. For other C/C++ related build failures see the porting guide

package: startpar
severity: serious
version: 0.59-2

Hi,

several people have asked me why their package fail on piuparts.debian.org
with the following:

0m46.4s ERROR: FAIL: debsums reports modifications inside the chroot:
  /etc/init/startpar-bridge.conf

This example was taken from
https://piuparts.debian.org/testing2sid/fail/libgcc1_1:4.9-20140411-2.log

The probem is, that startpar is a (pseudo) essential package, so all packages
are affected...

So I investigated what is happening exactly and create a jessie chroot with
debootstrap, saved /etc/init/startpar-bridge.conf, upgraded to sid and
compared the two files:

# diff /etc/init/startpar-bridge.conf /etc/init/startpar-bridge.conf.bak
15c15
 exec /lib/startpar/startpar-upstart-inject $JOB $INSTANCE
$UPSTART_EVENTS
---
 exec startpar-upstart-inject $JOB $INSTANCE $UPSTART_EVENTS

So that's why.

cheers,
Holger

Bug#750018: mysql-workbench hangs on any attempt to connect to a database.

2014-05-31 Thread Dmitry Smirnov
On Sat, 31 May 2014 18:34:50 sherif wrote:
 Severity: grave

Please do not panic and use correct severity as documented in:

https://www.debian.org/Bugs/Developer#severities

If I start mysql-workbench, it seems to start OK, but as soon as I try to do
anything it completely locks up (unresponsive). The lock up seems to be
triggered by ANY attempt to connect to a database, making the application
 unusable.

This fault has only recently appeared (until about a week ago it worked
normally). I assume therefore that some dependency has changed and causes a
 crash.

I'm unable to confirm your findings on up-to-date testing. Please have a
look at recently installed packages in /var/log/apt/history.log and try to
isolate the responsible package. Try to confirm the problem by downgrading it.

Please try newer mysql-workbench from unstable as well. Is it affected?

Also it may be helpful to ensure integrity of installed packages with
debsums.

Package: python-django-piston
Version: 0.2.3-1
Severity: serious
Tags: upstream patch

Ubuntu has cherry-picked two upstream Django 1.4 compatibility patches
for python-django-piston, but they were never forwarded to Debian:

https://bitbucket.org/jespern/django-piston/changeset/7c90898072ce
https://bitbucket.org/jespern/django-piston/changeset/3a0d021dd042

Upstream hasn't released a version including these patches, yet, so I
propose we cherry-pick them too.

Hi,

during a test with piuparts I noticed your package failed to install. As per
definition of the release team this makes the package too buggy for a
release, thus the severity.

I would appreciate if you could point out what definition is
being referred to there.

   Setting up ledgersmb (1.3.39-1) ...
   cp: cannot stat '/usr/share/ledgersmb/ledgersmb-http-2.4.conf.template': No
such file or directory

While it is true that this bug affects the installation of the ledgersmb
package, it does not affect it's operation as copies of the needed Apache v2.2
or v2.4 compatible configuration files are installed to
/usr/share/doc/ledgersmb/examples/.

Bug#749347: ledgersmb: fails to install: severity?

2014-05-31 Thread Holger Levsen
Hi RJ,

On Samstag, 31. Mai 2014, RJ Clay wrote:

per definition of the release team this makes the package too buggy for
  a release, thus the severity.
I would appreciate if you could point out what definition is
 being referred to there.

the very basic assumption (and requirement) that any package can be installed
and removed cleanly, spelled out in
https://release.debian.org/jessie/rc_policy.txt and there 5a:

Packages in the archive must not be so buggy or out of date that we
refuse to support them.

Failing to install is too buggy to support in a stable release according to
the release team.

While it is true that this bug affects the installation of the ledgersmb
package, it does not affect it's operation as copies of the needed Apache
v2.2 or v2.4 compatible configuration files are installed to
 /usr/share/doc/ledgersmb/examples/.

while it might be true that it doesn't affect the operation, this is also
irrelevant here.

cheers,
Holger

I run an aptitude update which in particular upgrade Iceweasel from version ~25

The package fails to build in a test rebuild on at least amd64 with
gcc-4.9/g++-4.9, but succeeds to build with gcc-4.8/g++-4.8. The
severity of this report may be raised before the jessie release.

The full build log can be found at:
http://people.debian.org/~doko/logs/failed-gcc49/cigi-ccl_3.3.3a+svn818-5_unstable_gcc49.log
The last lines of the build log are at the end of this report.

To build with GCC 4.9, either set CC=gcc-4.9 CXX=g++-4.9 explicitly,
or install the gcc, g++, gfortran, ... packages from experimental.

  apt-get -t experimental install g++

Common build failures are new warnings resulting in build failures
with -Werror turned on, or new/dropped symbols in Debian symbols
files. For other C/C++ related build failures see the porting guide
at http://gcc.gnu.org/gcc-4.9/porting_to.html

Bug#746824: Patch aptitude: ftbfs with GCC-4.9

2014-05-31 Thread David Westberg
Hello,
I have put together a patch to bug http://bugs.debian.org/746824
It consists of removal of unused funtions.
There is also a reference to a private member, the Patch simply comments
out the faulty code, not a nice fix.
With patch applied the codes builds using dpkg-buildpackage in
jessie/sid.

Comments welcome.

Description: gcc 4.9 FTBFS corrections

-Werror=unused-function
 serialize_pattern_list in src/generic/apt/matching/serialize.cc
 strncase_eq_with_translation in src/main.cc
 transcode in tests/test_cmdline_download_status_display.cc
Unused functions removed.

Private member apply in strip_shared_ptrs_result:
BOOST_STATIC_ASSERT code commented out. Needs a better solution.

Hello, ngraph-gtk current fails to build from source on unstable, but only on

 cat object.html.in object.html

Bug#750050: ieee-data: updated files should be placed in /var

2014-05-31 Thread Paul Wise
Package: ieee-data
Severity: serious
Usertags: fhs

The update-oui script places the new files in /usr instead of /var. I
would suggest a scheme were installing the package gets you the defaults
in /usr/share/ieee-data/defaults/*.txt plus symlinks to the /var dir
in /usr/share/ieee-data/*.txt and at package install time the defaults
are copied to /var and at package remove/purge time the copies in /var
are removed. Examples of other fixes for this issue:
