Hi,
This seems due to bug#1056953 [1] as the error message is linked to the
same missing symbol.
Best regards,

Dear Andreas,
I managed to patch the current CamiTK 5.0.2version to build with VTK9
(vtk9-compatibility.patch in attachment).
The build then stopped with the following error:

Dear Andreas,
Just to let you know that I managed to compile CamiTK with VTK9 but I
had to replace the base class that allows for the interaction between
VTK and Qt.
This is also related to bug ##979306 [1].
I can patch CamiTK to build with VTK9, but there are some major problem

Hi Emmanuel and Celine,
Debian has dropped support for VTK 6/7 and camitk needs to be ported to VTK9.
Currently libvtk9-qt-dev is not installable to do a test build. It would be
great if you could confirm that camitk builds with VTK9.

Dear Steve,
Thank you for this bug report.
After checking the build log you provided, I found the same CMake error
message as in #945453
https://bugs.debian.org/cgi-bin/bugreport.cgi?bug=945453
Therefore I think all packages that depends on insight-toolkit will fail
the same way due to bug

Hi,
These are the steps I followed to investigate this bug:
- modified the debian/rules of the vtk7 package by adding:
ifeq ($(DEB_BUILD_ARCH),i386)
# prevent undesirable excess precision
export DEB_CXXFLAGS_MAINT_APPEND=-ffloat-store
endif
- rebuild vtk7 for i386 locally with this new

Dear all
Thank to Paul for your answers about the autoremoval and explanation
about the ABI problem. It seems that Adrian Bunk's triage message in

Dear all,
I have read that upstream is joining Debian Science to package recent
upstream version VTK8. I expect that VTK6 will be removed from Debian
soon. So yes, I'd strongly recommend to follow the stable release cycle
of VTK upstream, which means that porting camitk to VTK7 is necessary
Hello all
Thanks again to Andreas and Bernhard. You are right: the problem comes
from gdcm 2.8.7-2.
I tried to build the package with the previous version of vtkgdcm. With
version 2.8.7-1 all the tests pass and the packages are built normally
(and autopkgtest does not fail either).

Thanks for your help again and hopefully this will be tackled down soon!

We are currently working on camitk 4.0, that should be released
hopefully very soon (the target is before the end of March).

end of January 2016) but updates the

Even if Charles mentioned that there are other non-free pieces in the license
contacting upstream about a DFSG free license might not harm in anyway.
