See http://www.debian.org/CD/faq/#which-cd for an answer to your
question.
Where in the docs does it say 1 to 5? It should be fixed, woody is 7 CDs.

is *unofficial* (not
unstable)? If that's the case, the same mistake happened as with the
generation of the 3.0r0 images. Essentially, they *are* the official
images, they're just declared unofficial. Otherwise, they work just fine.

Wrong, use this:
Debian mirror: http://ftp.it.debian.org/debian/
Non-US mirror: http://ftp.it.debian.org/debian-non-US/
(It will only ask for the Non-US mirror if you download the NONUS CD.)

Debian seems to be that

I'm not too sure. Steve said at one point that he was going to generate DVD
images, but first there were hardware problems, and now (presumably) he
can't find the spare time.

like
this out of rsync. I found out that rsync uses at least md4, so I don't
know if these are compatible.
They're not. :-/ IMHO you really need a little help from someone with
access to the server.

I'm aware of this effect. I have talked to Attila Nagy from fsn.hu,
which host a fallback directory for the snapshots. He said setting up
