Re: Work-needing packages report for Jul 13, 2012

2012-07-13 Thread Juhana Sadeharju

Is there a list of software which should
be used instead of some old software?
That is, should orphaned packages stay orphaned
for a good reason.

Also, are people wasting time in packaging
oldies which should be orphaned?

However, I checked that openscenegraph (OSG).
Seems like it is not used much, but as
scenegraph fan myself, I don't know better
alternative if I need one.

Re: Klear / Missing software in Debian?

2009-02-20 Thread Juhana Sadeharju

It looked like a dead project to me some time ago, but maybe it has
changed (but definitely nobody is still interested in patches I sent
them).

I see there are too many missing software. No need to add Klear.
Kaffeine and Me-TV seems to be nearest equivalents.
If Klear has good features compared to others, I write them down
when I review Kaffeine. E.g., Klear has better EPG than Me-TV.
But I will contact the authors directly.

Klear / Missing software in Debian?

2009-02-17 Thread Juhana Sadeharju

Hello. I noticed Klear (www.klear.org) is missing from
Debian pool. It is pleasant looking DVB digi-TV viewer.
It can be found from Ubuntu. While now I noticed Klear
has freezed, I already listed 50+ feature changes and wishes.
With a couple of changes and with subtitles, Klear
would be nice application. Maybe I will take a look at it.

Have you collected a list of useful software which are not
in Debian? Similar gems as Klear could be found.

Perhaps we should collect the list. That is easier than actually
making the Debian packages for the software.

A couple of more:
nifskope (of niftools) -- manipulator for NIF 3D model files
  used in Morrowind/Oblivion/Fallout3
ushock -- browser/viewer for Unreal engine based game data

WildMagic and Niftools in Debian?

2007-08-18 Thread Juhana Sadeharju

Hello. I could not find WildMagic in Debian distribution.
Latest version 4p5 was released as LGPL software at March 2007:
http://www.geometrictools.com
The software is well documented (book + what is in the web site)
and written by one of the original developers of commercial
Netimmerse (now Gamebryo) game engine.

Niftools
http://niftools.sourceforge.net
is also related in that the library Niflib and the viewer/editor
Nifskope can be used to open and write NIF files which are
used by Netimmerse/Gamebryo. The Oblivion game uses NIF files.

I have been told about compilation problems regarding the both
software. Debian packages would be good.
