Several things could have gone wrong with your homemade kernel. So
let's first attempt using official packages:
Try edit /etc/yaird/Config.cfg to include the modules needed, and
afterwards install an official 2.6.14 kernel.

Package: initramfs-tools
Version: 0.52b
Severity: critical
Justification: breaks unrelated software
I have both initramfs-tools and yaird installed on my system.
Yaird is explicitly defined as the default to use in /etc/kernel-img.conf.
Updating to initramfs-tools an hour ago my yaird-generated

all interested in that perl-based ramdisk generator is interested in
other aspects of kernel maintainance).
Similarly I suggest group-maintaining initramfs-tools separately (not
all have interest in dealing with udev).

The bugreports seem to indicate that things broke in 2.6.14-5
find where
that should be.
So I am jsut happy if this turns out to just be a short-lived bug in the
kernel code.
Still I would prefer to wait til 2.6.16 is released and tested before
closing this bug.
Fine with me :-)

Hmm - ok.
Actually, I now suspect you ran into bug
if fed specific SQL commands, and Debian
just made sure to not use those commands in official software.
That's what your patch was about, Sven: Relaxing the internal
logic of yaird for powerpc where you knew it would not hurt - if only
the kernels was built by your!

Perhaps http://wiki.debian.org/KernelModulesPackaging or the kernel

Perhaps looking at existing kernel modules packaged for Debian?

You may still want to switch back to using initramfs-tools after the
bug has been fixed. You can read more on the differences betweeen the
two tools here: http://wiki.debian.org/InitrdReplacementOptions

Hi,
Please have a look at bug#350407 and help weed out if it is really an
RC bug (policy 10.7.4) for the kernels to mess
with /etc/kernel-img.conf without a single package owning that
configuration file.
