In both cases, a device tree needs to supply the information. > That's a fair point. It's not pretty, but good enough for me. > Since updating the DTB is a lot easier then compiling the module for > every update of the debian linux package (and security updates usually > don't change the DTB anyway), I still feel providing the module would > be useful. I fully agree here and second the request for CONFIG_DHT11. Enabling this driver is another piece to shrinking the gap with Raspbian and making Debian a viable alternative on these devices. If you disagree here, you should revert #858975 for consistency's sake. Helmut

The user will need to either add a node to the DTB on his system or have the bootloader apply a device tree fragment on top of the DTB installed by debian, which would work well with automatic updates of the kernel. (Or load a device tree fragment from userspace once debian supports dynamic DT.) Since updating the DTB is a lot easier then compiling the module for every update of the debian linux package (and security updates usually don't change the DTB anyway), I still feel providing the module would be useful. Thanks for considering my report, Harald

This driver appears to depend on Device Tree properties, but none of the DTBs we build set those properties. It's not clear to me how it would be usable. Bug#873176: linux-image-armmp-lpae: Please add module for DHT11/DHT22 sensors
Package: linux-image-armmp-lpae Version: 4.12+84 Severity: wishlist Dear Maintainer, the DHT22 sensors are quite popular temperature and humidity sensors. I'm the upstream driver author so I am biased but from my experience with bug reports many users seem to run custom compiled (and mostly outdated) kernels only because debian doesn't ship the kernel module for this sensor. Also I'm switching my systems using these sensors from OpenWRT to debian ATM so I'm directly affeced by this as well. Adding CONFIG_DHT11=m will be enough, however I'm less sure about the architectures to enable this: It will be mostly used on all variants of ARM but the driver works on any platform with native (ie fast enough for bit banging) GPIOs.
