Bug#861617: RFS: ddcutil/0.8.0-6 [ITP] - control monitor settings

2017-07-24 Thread Sanford Rockowitz

Andrey,

Thank you for your comments. This being my fist debian submission, I
want to make sure there are not too many cooks in the kitchen before
uploading a new version. Back at the beginning of May, Stephen Kitt had
offered to co-maintain and sponsor the project. However, nothing has
happened since. Stephen, what you you like me to do?

Assuming that I'm uploading a new version, some comments and questions.

1) I will create a debian directory that exists solely for the debian
submission (i.e. not PPA, not OBS). This should clean things up.
2) IIRC, I was forced to increment the Debian release by
debain-mentors. A failed submission "used up" a debian release number
and blocked a corrected submission with the same release number. Is
there some way around this?
3) I will eliminate packages libddcutil0 and libddcutil-dev. The shared
library does not (yet) implement all the functionality needed by the
command line application, which is why ddcutil is not linked against
libddcutil0, and it is subject to change from user feedback and as the
Python API is implemented. Those wishing to experiment the the API can
get the shared library from my site or OBS.

I don't think yazc should be in the libs section.

Please don't put additional changes in the initial changelog entry.
Contents of README.Debian looks like a package description and should be
moved there.
You shouldn't override source-is-missing for files in the orig tarball.
Remove them from there if they are not used.
Please switch to the debhelper compat level 10.
Please bump Standards-Version to the current version.
Your debian/copyright suggests all of the source is licensed under all
four licenses as options. This is not true.
Both the source and the binary pakages ship precompiled PDFs. This is not
allowed in main.
The package bundles several libs, this is wrong, packaged versions should
be used instead.
Putting library packages into Depends explicitly is usually wrong.

Don't put the upstream changelog into the debian/changelog entry.
You should always use -1 as a debian revision for the initial upload.

I don't think it's the only change as the last upload is 3.8.9b-1 and this

Package: sponsorship-requests
Severity: normal

Dear mentors,

I am looking for a sponsor for my package "wxmaxima"

 * Package name: wxmaxima
   Version : 16.12.2-2
   Upstream Author : Andrej Vodopivec
 * URL : http://andrejv.github.io/wxmaxima/
 * License : GPL
   Section : math

It builds those binary packages:

wxmaxima - GUI for the computer algebra system Maxima

To access further information about this package, please visit the
following URL:

https://mentors.debian.net/package/wxmaxima

Alternatively, one can download the package with dget using this command:

dget -x
https://mentors.debian.net/debian/pool/main/w/wxmaxima/wxmaxima_16.12.2-2.dsc

Changes since the last upload:

wxMaxima was broken by a change in gcl that hindered the program from
starting up. This upload adds a patch that makes the program start again.

   Gunter Königsmann

Alas, there was another one:
"couldn't parse date Min, 24 Jul 2017 16:37:36 +0100"
which keeps most tools confused (the date effectively becomes 0, that is,
1970-01-01).

No point in another roundtrip for this, though, so I changed the i to o,
and uploaded.

Looks like the files are bit-for-bit identical, the new version merely has
double extension which is not nice, but not a show stopper.

I don't understand what needs to be fixed. Sphinx changed the way they
generate the documentation, so what?

> Or perhaps, should we ignore the issue for the moment and upload this
> version as-is?

Unless you can point me to what needs to be solved, and how, I don't
see what else can be done besides uploading the package as is.

Should there be a problem, then it should probably be fixed in Sphinx.
This package, as many others I maintain, uses a fairly standard Sphinx
configuration.

Ghis

- * Added a bug that resolves an incompatibility with the gcl debian is
currently
-shipped with. (closes: bug#853787)
+ * Resolved a bug gcl has introduced after 16.12.2-1 was published.

Sorry for nitpicking, but this one is wronger than the old one. Before,
it was an obvious brain fart but the meaning should be clear to a reader.
The new wording effectively says just "fixed a bug".

What about:

  * Fix an incompatibility with current versions of gcl. (Closes: #853787)

I guess it needs to be fixed somewhere, then. Could you tell us when you'll
have an updated package, or sphinx itself is fixed? Or perhaps, should we

Looks OK, however, in debian/copyright you list

  Copyright: 2015-2017 Manuel Martínez-Almeida

while in upstream's LICENSE it says

  Copyright (c) 2014 Manuel Martínez-Almeida

which is also reflected in the source headers. It would be nice to have
these in a consistent state.

This has to do with the change of behavior between Sphinx 1.4.x (Stretch)
and 1.5.x (Buster).

Same thing has happened with other packages uploaded recently, such as
python-latexcodec.

It needed me *hours* to find the mistake. But I've just uploaded a
package with a corrected ChangeLog to mentors. Let's hope it appears
there in the next few minutes.

Thanks a lot,
and kind regards,

   Gunter.
