Question about license file

2016-07-22 Thread Daniel Echeverry
Hi Mentors!

I am Maintainer of wifite[1][2], Some time ago the upstream migrated
the project to github[3] and made some Commits. I want update wifite
with these new changes, but in github repo, the upstream doesn't
include a license file, and he hasn't published any tarball. I tried
contact with the upstream to include a license file in the repo, but I
can't get answer for several months :(

How can I update wifite with the news changes? Can I make the patch
with the new changes??

Thank you very much!

Regards!

I am not sure but upstream provides something [1] A lot of changes and
the new version is written from scratch what do you think ?

Also the python2 version is orphan, the upstream doesn't provide support

Bug#755842: RFS: tintii/2.9.0-1

2014-07-30 Thread Daniel Echeverry
Hi Eriberto!

Thank you very much for review my package :) however another dd has
contacted me and we are working to upload this new version in debian

However taking advantage of your help, and because I am not a native
english speaker and my sponsor told me it would be good to update the
description, for this reason, I want to know if could you help me with
tintii's description

checking documentation and basing my poor English thought in something like
this:

Description: Photo filter for saturation control, especially selective
colour effects.
Tool for selective colour, saturation and hue shift photo adjustments.
Rather than fixing the set of colours that you can adjust, or requiring
you to manually select them, Tintii is uniquely able to automatically
detect
the major colours in a photo, making adjustments quick, easy and more
precise
 than other means.

What do you think?

Really, thank you very much! and thanks for review the package!

It appears to me that files that are currently installed to
/usr/share/sxiv/exec/ are just examples. If this is the case, then they
 should live in /usr/share/doc/sxiv/examples/.

 Done!

 Let me see:

Description: Install examples files with DH instead from Makefile

What does DH stand for? Diffie-Hellman? dh(1)? debhelper? I was genuinely
confused for a moment, especially since the patch doesn't itself contain
 any references to debhelper.

 - mkdir -p $(DESTDIR)$(PREFIX)/share/sxiv/exec
 - cp exec/* $(DESTDIR)$(PREFIX)/share/sxiv/exec/
 - chmod 755 $(DESTDIR)$(PREFIX)/share/sxiv/exec/*
 + #mkdir -p $(DESTDIR)$(PREFIX)/share/sxiv/exec
 + #cp exec/* $(DESTDIR)$(PREFIX)/share/sxiv/exec/
 + #chmod 755 $(DESTDIR)$(PREFIX)/share/sxiv/exec/*

When I see commented-out code, I automatically assume that someone added
comments for debugging and then forgot to clean it up. I'd recommend to
either remove the code we don't want completely, or add a code comment
explaining why the lines are commented-out.

Or maybe just remove share/sxiv/exec in debian/rules, instead of patching
 the Makefile?

I updated the patch, Could you check it out, again?

Don't put two unrelated changes into a single patch. Could you split
allow-cflags-override.diff into two, one for compiler flags, another one
 for installing icons?

 icon/Makefile needs a “set -e”. Please see Policy §4.6.

Re: RFS: b43-fwcutter/1:018-1 (Second Try)

2013-08-23 Thread Daniel Echeverry
Hi Vincent

 Hi Daniel!

Since this is a minor update, I have already uploaded the package. Some
 random
 remarks for the next upload:

  - The provided changelog is outdated. It is great to provide a
changelog when upstream fails so but this is a lot of work. If it is
not up-to-date, I think this is better to not bother with it.
  - Consider adding `V=1` to make arguments to enable verbose build and
get appropriate logs for buildd.

 Yes, really. Check:

  b43-fwcutter-017/debian/po/en.**po

I presume that this might come due to the fact that the .po file is called
en.po instead of es.po and the Spanish translation is invoked when the
locale is set to English (which is the case for me), I will test that. I
 haven't used debconf translations before.

You are right!, my mistake, sorry! (fixed)

Also, after installing b43-fwcutter, nothing further happens. I have to
install the firmware-b43-debs manually which is very confusing. Ideally,
 the
package b43-fwcutter should detect the hardware and prompt for the
installation of the proper package or at least depend on them.

b43-fwcutter itself is just a firmware cutter as its name suggests.
 http://linuxwireless.org/en/**users/Drivers/b43#Install_b43-**fwcutterhttp://linuxwireless.org/en/users/Drivers/b43#Install_b43-fwcutter

The thing is that absolutely nothing happens when installing the
b43-fwcutter which I found confusing. So, obviously people have to ignore
this package and always install the installer packages. This should be
mentioned at least in the README.Debian or better in the package
 description.

I also don't see why you can't just merge everything into one binary
package. You install a package b43-firmware, it detects your hardware in
the preinst script and downloads and installs the firmware accordingly. If
the detection fails, it should prompt whether to download the firmware
anyway and then abort the installation or continue the installation,
 depending on the user choice.

this part of the changelog[1], explains why it was necessary to split the
package, however I think this will be no problem for us because the driver
supports all cards with the Kerner 3.2 (which is in wheezy)

Adrian and I are working on a new version of b43-fwcutter without virtual
packages, which installed the appropriate firmware, depending on each card

This will be more clear to users :)

[1]: http://paste.debian.net/hidden/582ce9f5/

But maybe that's just me. I'd be happy if you have convincing arguments
why it should be handled differently.

 Cheers,

 Adrian

Hi,

Plowshare is great!! because have some features:

 * A small footprint (few shell scripts). No JAVA.
 * Run fast on embedded device (ARM7 with 8mo of RAM with busybox for
example)
 * Portable
 * Few dependencies
 * Make modules (plugins) as simple as possible to script.

 * Daniel Echeverry epsilo...@gmail.com, 2011-09-11, 03:07:

I tried to build the package with DEB_BUILD_OPTIONS=noopt, but -O2 was
used as optimization anyway. Could you please fix that?

 Please check out:

Hmm, so you dropped -O2 unconditionally, which is not quite what I asked.
Normally software should be build with -g -O2 (note that sxiv doesn't use
-g, which is another thing to fix).

Please see Debian Policy 10.1 and 4.9.1 for details.

 Fixed, please check out again:
 http://mentors.debian.net/**debian/pool/main/s/sxiv/sxiv_**0.9-1.dschttp://mentors.debian.net/debian/pool/main/s/sxiv/sxiv_0.9-1.dsc

Okay, so this addressed my second concern (missing -g), but not the first
 one (respecting DEB_BUILD_OPTIONS=noopt).

Also, can I have a more descriptive changelog entry? The sole patch name
doesn't give one any clue what the change was made.

 things you could fix:

The upstream README.md file contains installation information that

content, that is covered by the manual page. IIRC README.md files are
used by github to make a web page. I would suggest dropping this file

Removed!

In the watch file, I would suggest ([\d\.]+) instead of (.*) which
will prevent getting random branches in the DEHS output.

Done!

Looking at the upstream source code (config.h), a line like this in
 debian/control might be appropriate:

 Suggests: libjpeg-progs, imagemagick

 Comments are:

 - all upstream copyright still has old FSF address

 - Your installation of the manpage does break upstream's logic to write
the version number into the manpage. I would consider installing the
manpages like upstream proposes the preferred approach. So IMHO your
patch should be removed (and the sxiv.manpages file in debian/)

 - The upstream manpage however still has two hyphen-used-as-minus-sign
 issues:
 usr/share/man/man1/sxiv.1.gz:79
 usr/share/man/man1/sxiv.1.gz:239

I would be glad if someone uploaded this package for me.

RFS: creepy

2011-05-08 Thread Daniel Echeverry
Dear mentors,

I am looking for a sponsor for my package creepy.

* Package name: creepy
  Version : 0.1.9.2-1
Upstream Author : Yiannis Kakavas jkaka...@gmail.com
* URL : http://ilektrojohn.github.com/creepy
* License : GPL3
  Section : python

It builds these binary packages:
creepy - geolocation information aggregator

The package appears to be lintian clean.

The upload would fix these bugs: 620173

My motivation for maintaining this package is:

Some time ago, I knew this software and I started to use it,
it's very useful and interesting. Creepy permit locate to
sereval users from your id in social networks like
twitter and flickr.

It would be amazing do: aptitude install creepy.

The package can be found on mentors.debian.net:
- URL: http://mentors.debian.net/debian/pool/main/c/creepy
- Source repository: deb-src http://mentors.debian.net/debian unstable main
contrib non-free
- dget
http://mentors.debian.net/debian/pool/main/c/creepy/creepy_0.1.9.2-1.dsc

I would be glad if someone uploaded this package for me.

Hi,

The package can be found on mentors.debian.net:
 - URL: http://mentors.debian.net/debian/pool/main/d/driftnet
 - Source repository: deb-src http://mentors.debian.net/debian unstable
 main
 contrib non-free
 - dget
 http://mentors.debian.net/debian/pool/main/d/driftnet/driftnet_0.1.7-1.dsc

I would be glad if someone uploaded this package for me.

The debian/watch file , could have a comment like this:

# This package is currently built from a CVS repository, so no
# non-trivial watch file is possible.

I've reviewed the new package that is on mentors, and only have a few
observations

* The Standars Version should be 3.9.1 not 3.9.1.0
* copyright file in the source field: should be the homepage of the upstream

now we have to wait for a DD to check more thoroughly, and if there're no
problems, you can upload your package.

Regards
Daniel

I'm not DD, but I have some comments:

* Your watch file is empty
* The driftnet.desktop  should be in debian/
* Please use properly DEP5 format in your copyright file

This package was debianized by Ian Eure ie...@debian.org on
Sat, 1 Sep 2001 14:47:51 -0700. It has then been adopted by
 Christoph Haas h...@debian.org.

* The Maintainer field is supposed to be the upstream maintainer: Syntax:

maintainer(s)
* The standard versions should be 3.9.1

Re: RFS: b43-fwcutter (updated package)

2011-03-15 Thread Daniel Echeverry
Hi!

You can check the debian/copyright for DEP5 errors by using the config-edit
script from the libconfig-model-perl package as follows:

   $ config-edit -application dpkg-copyright -ui none

You have to run it from the parent folder of the debian/ directory of your
package (it reads the file 'debian/copyright' by default).

 Cheers

The copyright file located in Mentors is Ok. Unless, If I build the
package, there are files *.log that dh_clean can't erase.

Cheers

It makes reviewing a bit easier :)

Done!

  + Set myself as Maintainer

There were no override_* targets in d/rules before.  The only change I

But is this true for this package's README file? The paragraph

And the license is already included in the copyright file.

  · The older patches still have a dpatch header. It would be nice if
they instead had an informative header similar to the one in your
patch 06_Imakefile.diff.

Done!

  · About the changelog entries: Please do not just mention which files
you touched (that can be seen in the diff), but describe a bit what
(and why) you changed something. Especially group things you write
by changes, not by file names:

  * Do not link with Xext: we do not use it.
- Remove libxext-dev from Build-Depends.
- New patch: 06_Imakefile.diff

is more informative than

  * debian/control
+ Removed libxext-dev in B-D, it's not necessary
  * debian/patches/06_Imakefile.diff
+ Added, to fix dpkg-shlibdeps: warning

where other people have to find the connection themselves.
(Same for the switch from override_* targets to files in debian/.)

Re: RFS: 9menu (updated package)

2010-11-06 Thread Daniel Echeverry

Hi

Three things you might want to correct in the next upload:

  · debian/rules: The override_dh_auto_clean target is not necessary as
it just calls dh_auto_clean with no options.

Done!

  · debian/rules: You should remove the generated upstream changelog in
the clean target. For example by calling dh_clean changelog.

Done!

  · There is a warning from dpkg-shlibdeps:
dpkg-shlibdeps: warning: dependency on libXext.so.6 could be
avoided if debian/9menu/usr/bin/9menu were not uselessly linked
against it (they use none of its symbols).
You should try not linking against the library and check if 9menu
still works correctly.

For this, I've created the patch 06_Imakefile.diff , please check out:

Hi

I did take a look at your package. Some comments:

  · debian/changelog: There is a space missing in the last line.

I am a bit confused, I don't understand this

  · debian/compat: You build-depend on debhelper 7, but use compat
level 5. Is that intentional?
  · debian/rules:
- dh_auto_clean will run $(MAKE) clean for you.
- No need to remove stamp-build as you don't create it.
- You use override_* targets to pass arguments to debhelper tools,
except for dh_install which uses debian/install. You might want to use
  only one style.
- Is the chmod in the clean target necessary?
  · debian/watch: The comments in the first lines should be removed as
they don't really apply here.
  · debian/control: I don't think the Homepage field is helpful for end
users. There is no additional information, only release tarballs.

Done!
