Question about license file
Hi Mentors! I am Maintainer of wifite[1][2], Some time ago the upstream migrated the project to github[3] and made some Commits. I want update wifite with these new changes, but in github repo, the upstream doesn't include a license file, and he hasn't published any tarball. I tried contact with the upstream to include a license file in the repo, but I can't get answer for several months :( How can I update wifite with the news changes? Can I make the patch with the new changes?? Thank you very much! Regards! Hi Eriberto! Thank you very much for review my package :) however another dd has contacted me and we are working to upload this new version in debian However taking advantage of your help, and because I am not a native english speaker and my sponsor told me it would be good to update the description, for this reason, I want to know if could you help me with tintii's description checking documentation and basing my poor English thought in something like this: Description: Photo filter for saturation control, especially selective colour effects. Tool for selective colour, saturation and hue shift photo adjustments. Rather than fixing the set of colours that you can adjust, or requiring you to manually select them, Tintii is uniquely able to automatically detect the major colours in a photo, making adjustments quick, easy and more precise than other means. What do you think? Re: RFS: b43-fwcutter/1:018-1 (Second Try)
Hi Vincent Hi Daniel! Since this is a minor update, I have already uploaded the package. Some random remarks for the next upload: - The provided changelog is outdated. It is great to provide a changelog when upstream fails so but this is a lot of work. If it is not up-to-date, I think this is better to not bother with it. - Consider adding `V=1` to make arguments to enable verbose build and get appropriate logs for buildd. -- Debian package sponsoring guidelines: http://vincent.bernat.im/en/debian-package-sponsoring.html I'll take note :) thank you very much for your help Regards Daniel -- Epsilon http://wiki.debian.org/DanielEcheverry Linux user: #477840 Debian user

When I install the package b43-fwcutter, it will prompt the debconf question in Spanish. Really? Where to check the source package content? Yes, really. Check: b43-fwcutter-017/debian/po/en.**po I presume that this might come due to the fact that the .po file is called en.po instead of es.po and the Spanish translation is invoked when the locale is set to English (which is the case for me), I will test that. I haven't used debconf translations before. You are right!, my mistake, sorry! (fixed) Also, after installing b43-fwcutter, nothing further happens. I have to install the firmware-b43-debs manually which is very confusing. Ideally, the package b43-fwcutter should detect the hardware and prompt for the installation of the proper package or at least depend on them. b43-fwcutter itself is just a firmware cutter as its name suggests. http://linuxwireless.org/en/**users/Drivers/b43#Install_b43-**fwcutterhttp://linuxwireless.org/en/users/Drivers/b43#Install_b43-fwcutter The thing is that absolutely nothing happens when installing the b43-fwcutter which I found confusing. So, obviously people have to ignore this package and always install the installer packages. This should be mentioned at least in the README.Debian or better in the package description. I also don't see why you can't just merge everything into one binary package. You install a package b43-firmware, it detects your hardware in the preinst script and downloads and installs the firmware accordingly. If the detection fails, it should prompt whether to download the firmware anyway and then abort the installation or continue the installation, depending on the user choice. this part of the changelog[1], explains why it was necessary to split the package, however I think this will be no problem for us because the driver supports all cards with the Kerner 3.2 (which is in wheezy) Adrian and I are working on a new version of b43-fwcutter without virtual packages, which installed the appropriate firmware, depending on each card This will be more clear to users :) [1]: http://paste.debian.net/hidden/582ce9f5/ But maybe that's just me. I'd be happy if you have convincing arguments why it should be handled differently. Cheers, Adrian -- .''`. Re: RFS: b43-fwcutter (updated package)
Hi! You can check the debian/copyright for DEP5 errors by using the config-edit script from the libconfig-model-perl package as follows: $ config-edit -application dpkg-copyright -ui none You have to run it from the parent folder of the debian/ directory of your package (it reads the file 'debian/copyright' by default). Cheers The copyright file located in Mentors is Ok. Unless, If I build the package, there are files *.log that dh_clean can't erase. Re: RFS: 9menu (updated package, Second try)
Hi! · Does the README provide any information relevant to the user that is not already provided elsewhere (e.g. in the copyright file)? If not, it should not be installed. I think that the README file is very important in any package, the README file has important descriptive information and explain what each file does · The older patches still have a dpatch header. It would be nice if they instead had an informative header similar to the one in your patch 06_Imakefile.diff. Done! · About the changelog entries: Please do not just mention which files you touched (that can be seen in the diff), but describe a bit what (and why) you changed something. Especially group things you write by changes, not by file names: * Do not link with Xext: we do not use it. - Remove libxext-dev from Build-Depends. - New patch: 06_Imakefile.diff is more informative than * debian/control + Removed libxext-dev in B-D, it's not necessary * debian/patches/06_Imakefile.diff + Added, to fix dpkg-shlibdeps: warning where other people have to find the connection themselves. (Same for the switch from override_* targets to files in debian/.) Done! Re: RFS: 9menu (updated package)
Hi Three things you might want to correct in the next upload: · debian/rules: The override_dh_auto_clean target is not necessary as it just calls dh_auto_clean with no options. Done! · debian/rules: You should remove the generated upstream changelog in the clean target. For example by calling dh_clean changelog. Done! · There is a warning from dpkg-shlibdeps: dpkg-shlibdeps: warning: dependency on libXext.so.6 could be avoided if debian/9menu/usr/bin/9menu were not uselessly linked against it (they use none of its symbols). You should try not linking against the library and check if 9menu still works correctly. Hi I did take a look at your package. Some comments: · debian/changelog: There is a space missing in the last line. I am a bit confused, I don't understand this · debian/compat: You build-depend on debhelper 7, but use compat level 5. Is that intentional? · debian/rules: - dh_auto_clean will run $(MAKE) clean for you. - No need to remove stamp-build as you don't create it. - You use override_* targets to pass arguments to debhelper tools, except for dh_install which uses debian/install. You might want to use only one style. - Is the chmod in the clean target necessary? · debian/watch: The comments in the first lines should be removed as they don't really apply here. · debian/control: I don't think the Homepage field is helpful for end users. There is no additional information, only release tarballs. Done!
