Hi,
As you looked at the proposals, but haven't provided feedback yet. Are we
getting feedback before deadline ?

Sanjay

Hello mentors,

I've completed my assignment task and uploaded it to salsa[0] with the
essential documentation and a demonstration video[1] as well in order to
help out in the review process. I've used Python-GnuPG to demonstrate
Key Pair creation, displaying available Key Pairs and Public Key using
the GUI. I've already uploaded my draft proposal on GSoC Dashboard
couple of days ago which is awaiting review. Will be waiting for the
reviews in order to make the proposal better. Thank you.

2018-03-22 Thread Daniel Pocock

Hi all,

I'm sending this email to the list and BCC to all those who applied
personally or on the list so you all receive the same information. If
you are not already subscribed to the list I recommend you subscribe:
https://lists.debian.org/debian-outreach

The other co-mentors and I are still discussing selection criteria.

Some of you did not already submit a draft in the Google portal:

https://summerofcode.withgoogle.com

and if you still want to apply, the deadline is Tuesday. Please see the
instructions in my previous emails during March:

https://lists.debian.org/debian-outreach/2018/03/threads.html

I looked at the proposals that are in the system. Some of them are
quite strong. However, some of you have not completed things that I
suggested in my tips email:

https://lists.debian.org/debian-outreach/2018/03/msg00069.html

For example, some of you do not have a week-by-week schedule.

Please note the proposal is not a contract, if you write a schedule now
and you have to change your plans in the middle of the project, that
doesn't mean you will fail. If you are not sure what to write in the
schedule, I would suggest making a schedule that appears too easy for 3
months work and if you finish it too quickly, we will help you plan
other activities for the rest of the program.

Regards,

Daniel

Hi all,

Latest update on this topic: I'm looking at the proposals in the GSoC
portal tomorrow or Thursday and will provide feedback to all of you in
an email to the list by Friday morning.

You can continue updating your proposal right up to the deadline.
Remember to make sure it is in a "Draft" state until I give you feedback
but you have to put it in the "Final" state before the deadline on 27
March or it is automatically rejected.

Regards,

Daniel

2018-03-14 Thread Daniel Pocock

Hi all,

I'm sending this email to the list and BCC to all those who applied
personally or on the list so you all receive the same information. If
you are not already subscribed to the list I recommend you subscribe:
https://lists.debian.org/debian-outreach

The other co-mentors and I are having a discussion about our selection
criteria.

Before we propose any more tasks or tests for you to do, I'd like to
suggest that you make sure you are registered in the Google portal:

https://summerofcode.withgoogle.com

and begin a draft proposal with answers to the questions you can
complete quickly.

If you already made any public code contributions in the last 12 months
using the skills for this project (Python and PyQt) now is a good time
to put together a list of those links.

To write your draft, please see my earlier email and the Debian template:

https://lists.debian.org/debian-outreach/2018/03/msg00069.html

In the past, we also asked students to create a wiki page:

https://wiki.debian.org/SummerOfCode2013/StudentApplicationTemplate

https://wiki.debian.org/GSoC/StudentWikiPages

but now Google has their registration system where you have to submit
your proposal and the Debian mentors will have a meeting shortly where
we will decide if we still want wiki pages. You can still create a
basic personal page on the wiki such as this:

https://wiki.debian.org/DanielPocock

One of the most difficult tasks for us mentors is that we have to choose
only one applicant and decline many other very good applicants.
Therefore, at the same time as making an application to this project, I
would also encourage you to make applications to 2 other organizations
in GSoC.

Thank you for your interest in this topic.

Regards,

Daniel

Hey Daniel,
Since you've decided to mentor this project, could you elaborate on the
idea, tasks and key points to be taken into account before writing a
proposal ?

Thanks,
Vishal Gupta

I am interested in_developing the GUI application that helps
students/interns apply and get started._
I have been interested in this project since i saw its proposal on
mailing list. I want to contribute in this project. I have previous
experience in building GUI applications, So this project is a good fit
for me.

I have coded the *application task* for this project. In my
implementation, *_User can subscribe to different mailing lists just by
providing his email and selecting mailing list names._*
I have coded a python class to handle subscription and a GUI using PyQt
to handle it. I have pushed my code to my github repository. Please have
a look at it (link below). Please suggest on how i can improve it and
contribute more.

2018-02-20 Thread Vishal Gupta
Just saw this idea.
I'm interested in working on this since it practically affect all of us as
students.
Could you give me a heads up on the steps to be followed next by students
interested in GSoC so I could quickly develop an application/wizard using
PyQt that the current batch could use ?

Current applicants could pull the wizard from a GitHub repo as and when we
add more steps (pushed commits) to the wizard.

Thanks
Vishal
