We investigated this issue a bit on IRC, and two workarounds were
discovered. Either init.d/kdm can set KDEROOTDIR to some more
sensible location (like /var/lib/kdm/). This will make kdm stop
creating files in the root users home directory, and is a more proper
fix
otherwise, I will take it that your view is shared by the rest of the
KDE team, and thus leave this resolution of issue for a future upgrade
of KDE.

So either we had a bug in debian-edu-artwork which failed to trigger
a problem with kdm in lenny, or the sematic of the THEME setting in
kdm changed between lenny and squeeze. Only the kdm maintainer can
tell what the intended behavour for the THEME setting in
/etc
picky about themese
between KDE 3 and 4.
Perhaps we can use the same theme for gdm and kdm if we provide both
KdmGreeterTheme.desktop and GdmGreeterTheme.desktop and a XML file
that both gdm and kdm understand? Would be nice to have the same
theme for kdm and gdm.

way in lenny to set up ones own kdm theme, and is unable to write
the specified theme in Squeeze.

The kmix application fail to work on thin clients where the network
audio systems provided are ESD and PulseAudio. We discovered this in
Debian Edu in Etch and Lenny. In Lenny, our
patches though.

I just had a look in tasksel, and the kde-desktop task seem a bit slim
to be a full blown alternative to the gnome-desktop task. Are anyone

The konsole program fail to regain focus when it should. I'm using

I think the real solution to this recuring problem is to split the
dekstop patch into a just X, gnome and KDE task. This is much
more friendlier to our non-broadband users, and it makes the task
