point of view all orig.tar.gz should be repacked without .hg-directory,
as there are some binaries inside.
sagemath-database-graphs has also a binary-database:

I have similar problem on liggghts/lammps packages, which are running
under openmpi [1] and [2].
It would be good to try a patch from LP-bug [3].

petsc is not in BD of the last 2 uploads of gmsh.
There is a FTBFS, requires fixing.
By the way, gmsh is now using oce instead of opencascade.
