I would try to migrate all VTK6-dependent packages
onto VTK7 if it is possible. And remove VTK6 from the
archive till the buster release.

I'm glad to hear about this, looking at the VTK 7 packaging will help me
in my own efforts to package VTK 9.

I just uploaded vtk7 to unstable and I think it is time to think about
what should remain of vtk6.
IMHO we should drop java, tk/tcl language bindings, remove the -doc and
-example packages and only provide the library and -dev packages, and
the python2 bindings (for now), because
