I have a problem starting X. It gives the following error:

I just install gnome on my system. And have check out on the gnome page
for some applications. I would like to use ggv (postcript veiwer). So i
dowload it and tri to compil it. ./configure said:
checking for pthread_create in -lpthread... yes
checking for gtk-config... /usr/bi
I would say that pppd looks at /etc/ppp/options and at /etc/ppp/peers/ISP_name.
Since you can connect to the ISP as root, I guess that your problem is pppd
permitions. does ls show the existance of /etc/ppp/options when you are
looking as root ? Does pppd is suid ?

I have had redhat and caldera here and have been able to boot with lilo on the
root partioton woith system commander.
On installlation it would not allow me to put lilo on the second disk in the

Did you run pppconfig? yesI went through all the steps to create the

When server2 is not connected to the net , cannot resolve a lot
of domain and reject temporary the trafic from server1.
i use the default smarthost setup from debain 2.0

Another wierd thing is I cannot use the pbackspace key in X applications.
ie netscape,exmh or tkdesk.
It woks fine in the text editors like jpico.

Try running 'ldd /usr/lib/netscape/netscape' and verify that all of the
libraries listed are present. 4.06/netscape4_4.0-12 is working fine here.

It will start and run fine under root.
If I try to start it as a normal user it crashes with the message:

Point DSELECT to your CD rom first. Once you've mounted the CD, type:
/debian/main
This will reference the root. For the remaining questions, respond NONE.
