Trouble? e-mail to [EMAIL PROTECTED] .
I have given it another shot. Mail escapes me. I now have to ask for
help on this. Mail must be my nemesis, as it took six months to get
it right on my now defunct former system (as some readers may remember?).
I have run the smail setup script, a couple of times, and think I have

modules have unresolved references. One of these is plip.o. WHAT
DOES THIS MEAN? Looks like my library upgrade broke those modules.
I need/want plip to network this machine with the planned new one.
Can I repair this short of recompiling the kernel?

might just say that I am clueless. It's one more level
of kludges I don't need to deal with.
Thanks for the many times I have received helpful advice on this
list.

I will try to address your call for comments, though it will be a

This persists until the internet service provider issues a max idle
time disconnect. This troubles me, because I have a 5 minute max idle
time disconnect on my end, but I am getting billed for 45 minute max
idle time disconnects from the ISP's side.
Any suggestions?

The system log, messages, can fill up to 3 to 5 megabytes in a
session. Yet when I delete it, the space does not show up, at least
not consistently, when I issue a df.
Any suggestions?

According to top, syslogd is using over 80% of cputime.
When I run another memory-hungry application, this immediately drops.
This was never noted until recently.
I now note syslogd, which was to have been replaced by the
sysklogd package, is still installed.
Using sysklogd 1.3-11; don't
developed a need for it, or suddenly gotten verbose about it.
I have been installing and uninstalling some mail software, and
perhaps some net software, but I cannot get a fix on this.
Does this mean something to anyone?
A clue for the clueless?

I will try again after rebooting (obviously).

There has been some helpful discussion of the setting up of X11.

For your interest, I would suggest that a help screen along the lines
of the following would be more helpful, at least to myself, and
perhaps others. This file is to be considered bogus, however, unless
someone corrects and extends it. Mainly, I don't understand most of
