geometry is a fiction these days. Internally, the drives have a
different number of sectors per track depending on whether it's the
inside, middle, or the outside tracks. The drive emulates something with
fixed geometry so that BIOS doesn't get confused.

. Whose libc is libc5?
That is GNU libc too, but when work on LIBC was dead in the water H.J. fixed
(or hacked) it for Linux. The new libc merges in H.J. code into the main GNU
source thread or replaces it with something better.
Bruce

Bruce Perens K6BP [EMAIL PROTECTED] 510-215-3502
Two questions:
1. What's good about GNU libc?
2. Whose libc is libc5?
LIBC5 is GNU libc with substantial patches for Linux. LIBC6 is GNU libc with
the Linux support merged back in to the main source thread. GNU calls these
LIBC 1 and 2. We call it LIBC6 on Linux because our version numbers
the packages in some trusted
environment.
When I last heard, we had some 240 (out of 900) packages not converted to
the new source format. This gets in the way of automatic compilation.
Volunteers to work on that are welcome.

Look at www.pgp.com . He's quite the businessman. Bought Viacrypt and

. You might want to start XF86_S3. Which configuration file has this
pathname and not /etc/X/X11 ?
2. The X configuration program wants to run the vanilla SVGA server and
it's not installed?
No doubt someone more cognizant with X will respond.

Please note that this doesn't help those of us who already *have* to
use socks to get to the 'net.
I guess you'd have to get at your SOCKS server in order to tell it to call
our SOCKS server for this particular service.

Mount the hard disk root on /mnt, and run lilo -r /mnt. That will
treat /mnt as if it were the root.
I agree these commercial operating systems aren't worth the trouble.

There may be a manual edit of your X configuration required. People who
understand X a lot better than I are available to help out on this list.
There may be other small hassles, but an upgrade should certainly be
possible.

The readme in the m68k disks says root.bin doesn't work for amiga. I
suppose that means it works for atari. I suggest you write to
debian-68k@lists.debian.org and ask the developers there how to get
bootstrapped.
