booted from a non-ext3 kernel you'd still have access to your partition, just mounted as ext2. After botching my linux system up, I discovered that as long as fsck checks your partition and marks it clean, it doesn't matter if your fstype is ext3 or auto, it'll get mounted ok. HTH -- Curtis Hogg
