Debian does. They used to have some drivers (scsi) available that were

Uninstall XDM and install KDM, if you installed the task x-window-system
you will have to uninstall that first, it is only a meta-package, will
not affect other apps.

I am not familiar with Nvidia stuff,..but libc 2.3.1 is not from Debian
Stable/Wood
or kernel issue, most kernels by default are
setup to handle atapi drives. That said I like to have hwtools & hdparm
installed on IDE systems.

I use 'dpkg-reconfigure xserver-xfree86' to configure my Matrox card.
Also the V & H are ranges, i.e. v=30-97, h=50-160, unless you are using
a LCD.
In Woody there is a tool for configuring the Matrox dual head card:
mgapd
onfigure this way. AFAIk having a cd reader & cd-recorder on the same
bus and copying from one & burning to the other can cause the issue you
mention. If this is the case, DMA or scsi emulation need to be used.

Dunno, I use apt-move a little differently. 'apt-move get' to sync the
packages.gz file, then 'apt-move move' I would try 'not' using th
both kernels unable to boot the box, kernel panic error
message. A question from all this: can I add 'initrd=initrd.img' as an
option in lilo.conf but not in the stanza'a mentioned above ?

As mentioned don't mount the cd's or DVD's. Xine looks for a movie disk in
/dev/dvd, you can configure Xine to play from your device.

I would think any file system that the system doesn't write to. This would
also include /usr/local and /opt. Though on some distro's /opt gets
software installed, I don't think sharing it would affect any particul

Install the package 'hwtools'. This puts a script into /etc/init.d where you
can put hdparm options, the hwtools script comes with some hdparm options.

You can try to build the packages from source. Setup apt-pinning
(/etc/apt/preferences) file. Use 'apt-get source -b -t
'. If there are not a lot of depends
it could work without breaking woody.

I use a Brother 1270N, cups has a driver for it , it has a nic card and
picks up an IP address from my dhcp server. I like having a nic card in the
printer for sharing on a network.

it appears you had LPR stuff installed at the same time. Start fresh,
purge all printing systems except cups. It looks like you are not using
Woody so I can't say how to fix the conflicts issue.
Cups uses a different printcap file, /etc/printcap.cups. I
