Vadim, I would turn off the services that are using those ports (if you don't need them). For instance, port 22 is going to be your ssh daemon listening for connections. If you have a standalone workstation, I can't imagine why you would need ssh running. I'm not sure what the other ports are.

Tim, I don't think you're doing anything wrong. I assume that you're running ssh as a daemon. If this is the case, mine does the same thing. Sometimes my ssh connections don't even go through until I attempt a second connection. It's almost as if the daemon has to 'wake up' before it will accep
