Just to ask a favor, I'm creating a End-user Linux site for people who just
want to install Linux and run it like Windoze. We're not talking big time
compile a kernel daily use, but everyday. I'd like to create it
a-la-slashdot where people are the help engines. Basically a post answer
situation.
I noticed to that Slashdot is kinda folded and the article swap. Shall we
tell cloak and dagger stories about RH backdoors into servers to disable
anti-RH propaganda? Wait, they're monitoring the list..they've got me!!!
ah!!!

I say we form a watchdog committee called the Linux CIA :) it seems like
slashdot's crash came from the grassy knoll and NOT the book
depository...h...All I know is..I glanced something on Redhat and Linux
care, and Rob is out at LinuxExpo I believe...I don't know if I can go
without slashdot
I too thought that was pretty slink(seriously, no pun intended). Anyway, I
like the Debian ad on the lower right. Oh well, when your the #1 flavor for
hobbiests and researchers, you gotta be used somewhere :)
Another proud Debian user and linux.com bookmarker... :)

make-kpkg --revision=test1 kernel_image
the kernel compiles it's little heart out ..until..

Anyone know of a spot where I can get common or rare error messages for
kernel(2.2.5) compiles?
Thanks,

Has anyone ever encountered the trouble with Kernel-package that does not
make the symbolic link in /usr/src/linux? This seems to be my trouble. I
have the source tarballs in /usr/src but no /usr/src/linux. Any help I'd be
greatly appreciative... thanks :)

To me, when I installed this way, the kernel image file is linux, not
@file. try Linux, and it should boot the kernel. Best advice I can give...

For me, all this took was going into the BIOS and shutting off ALL of your
power management stuff. Bummer if you have an ATX case, but nice if it
stops lock-ups

To finalize my debian installation, I've installed KDE and the newest
version of XFree-SVGA, but now I need to get sound setup, my CD-ROM
recognized, and my modem setup. I'm new to linux and alot of the sites I've
travelled to have explanations that I would say are way over my head (i.e.
isapnp)
Using KDE and it's Kppp dialer, what does it mean when it says that it sees
a lock option in /etc/ppp/options? any ideas? thanks.

When using isapnp with lspci it says it tries to find the directory
/proc/bus/pci/...
but cannot. when I then go in to make the directory, I get an operation not
permitted error. It's nuts. Any other way to install PnP devices? or is
this an easy fix and it's just over my Linux-semi-newbie head?

I feel really moronic asking this, but what is the package that allows you
to use make. Is it GCC or something else?
thanks

What happens is this exactly: after choosing my video type and the infor
page, a small grey text box flashes and reboots my system. I'm using the
rescue dick to boot the kernel and install the drivers, but the base is on
a seperate drive running 98.
