I'm using the dpkg-ftp_1.4.9.deb and dpkg_1.4.0.19.deb packages from the
hamm distribution.
Today I tried to install the emacs/xemacs packages from the hamm
distribution and I noticed that all the manual pages are screwed up. Some
of them are even linked to executable files.. anyone else have this
problem?

This is somewhat of a bug report, but its really not a real 'bug'... The
mgetty+sendfax package places its faxrunq.pid in the etc directory.. Who
ever maintains this package should probably recompile it to use /var/run
instead.

I think you need to edit the /etc/makedev.cfg and run the /dev/MAKEDEV
program.. -- that is how you 'chmod' a device.

I installed the debian dosemu 0.66 package the other day and I can't get
it to totally work -- my dos partition (/dev/hda1) does not show up. In
the /etc/dosemu/conf I have the line "disk { parition "/dev/hda1" }"

For me it takes about 1 second to about 2 minutes to send mail through
pine. I have background sending enabled in the pine config. Are there
any programs which could speed this up? -- something that could except the

I want all the users in the floppy group to be able to mount floppies and
same for the cdrom group. I tried using the ch* commands and they had no
effect. Changing the 'user' flag in /etc/fstab allowed all users access.

how do I set the CMOS time from the system time? -- when the system
reboots, the time is incorrect and is too far off track that xntp3 won't
set it..

I have a couple of questions about using mgetty-fax/sendfax
1) how do I set the "fax station id"
2) how do I add to the modem reset string?
also, when I send a fax it always fails about 1/2 through the first
page.. it works perfectly when receiving.. how do I configure my modem?

I'm trying to make a boot disk with lilo and a ramdisk on it, is this
possible?
Also, when I was booting from my first homemade bootdisk+ramdisk I
didn't have all the libraries I needed... From this boot disk I want to
run zftape.o (module) and taper 6.8. Does taper require tar+gzip or is

disappeared! .. I have ramdisk support compiled as a module.. does it
have to be built in to work or is there another way to make a

anonymous ftp users can't see any directories.. they can change to them,
but can see anything...??? I used the package defaults.. what could be
wrong?

I installed taper 6.8.0a10.deb from the master the other day and
everything works except I can't type in any of the prompts - anything in
