As far as I understand, these are not DNS queries since they
are UDP. Is this a break-in attemtp, should I ignore it, how
to prevent it (TCP wrappers don't work here) ... ?

specify mod-php, mod_mysql, etc?
Install the deb and take a look at httpd.conf. If my memory serves me
correct I think the apt-get process even asks you which modules you
want to use.
