and this worked fine on Sarge. On Etch it seems you have to use
/dev/mapper/vg-lv. Can't be sure that this is exactly the same issue I
had on the upgrade but seems likely.
This may be documented somewhere but couldn't find it - if it is,
apologies.

It should work - that is how I have my machines set up. It means that

In what way doesn't it work? What messages do you get?

Not sure it is the answer to your problem but I had to use the -r flag
to mkinitrd.

This should be in router not transport.

Not sure if this helps but .
I took two approaches to this. First I downloaded the non-debian
packages from the XFREE site. I left the Woody X packages in place to
satisfy dependencies and then installed the XFREE packages on top. It
seemed to work OK for me but there might be problems
. When I log on it seems to mess up the
mixer settings. I've changed KDE not to reload mixer settings on start
up and this seems to work OK. However this now means that any mixer
changes I do will be lost.

Should also have said that this applies both in KDE and using mpg123.

Try Thunderbird. If you add the enigmail plugin you get good gpg
support and can have s/mime as well.

You are not alone. I have an Audigy card which uses the same driver.
Since moving to 2.4.24 I have lost sound through both KDE and mpg123. I
can't find the cause yet.
My system works fine if I go back to 2.4.22.
