/etc/rcx.d... how should be setup?

Hi all, I would like to ask a question that has come to my mind... How should be the /etc/rcx.d directories managed ? (replace x with a number) I currently have runlevel 2 with gdm set and 3 without it. But is it there any program in debian that could manage this without breaking the package
