Karl, It's a deliberate decision to not put LILO on the MBR, but on the partition. Removing the 1 works, but makes it difficult to boot other operating systems. He shouldn't get the prompt from the mbr program unless something is wrong with LILO or the partition hasn't been activated. The MBR

It's saying that it sees that partition 1 on the first hard disk is bootable, and it is offering you the option to boot partition 1, the Floppy, or to go into Advanced mode. Advanced mode offers you the choice of booting any partition on the first disk. Generally you'll see this prompt if you
