I too have a similar problem. I am able to use xmms, mp3blaster etc
to play songs. So the audio is working. But, Whenever I am in X, using
some gnome program, and after shutting down X, the console is filled
with errors like
Audio Device open of ... KHz mono 8 bit failed

Well, it was sugguested that to go back to the 0.5 module instead
of the 0.9 ones... and let them fix the problem first b4 upgrading
