It's probably your kernel.
The fstab output:

Looks like my fstab.

Just do:
mount /floppy
mount is suid root, so sudo is unnecessary, and if you use 2 or more

permissions, so if you want to do something nonstandard, say:
sudo mount -t fat -o uid=42 /dev/fd0 /floppy

Something's wierd with mounting dos floppies under my current
installation of slink debian. It worked before I had a hard drive
crash and had to reinstall. I can read vfat hard drive partitions just
fine. mtools isn't helping, either -- it cannot open the floppy
device. I've tried mounting

this assumes you have compiled in support for hfs in your kernel or
have it as a kernel module, if not you will have to recompile the
kernel with hfs fs support.

Thanks to the people that helped me out with installation!
Now I have a couple of questions about the basics of Linux.
I just installed my system, and it works good, except for three things:
1. I can't mount the floppy drive. Does anyone know how to do
this, or where I can find out how

Hi again!
When I tried to mount my floppy drive using:
mount -t msdod /dev/fd0 /a
I got these messages:
end_request: I/O error, dev 02:00, sector 0
mount: /dev/fd0 is not a valid block device
Does anyone know what I am doing wrong?

1. I can't mount the floppy drive. Does
try mounting fd0 without specifying filesystem type. IIRC, the filesystem
will be autodetected.
If it is a win95/98 floppy you *may* need to specify filesystem vfat rather
than msdos. I'm not sure on this one.
Ivan.

Didn't help. Same errors and then it came back with mount: you must specify the
filesystem type.

Ignore that last message. mtools was already installed.
I tried mdir and got the same sort of error messages as below

I have a 'not brilliant floppy that will sometimes give an

It will often work on the second attempt ie. when
